Just check my app exposure notifications

I followed some info I had seen on here and checked my phone settings for my app exposure notifications, just out of curiosity. However my app apparently hasn't checked for exposures since 24th Sept?!?! How has that happened?

Mine has been checking regularly.

But only once today. Hmm

Which is nice.

ScottishStottie · 01/11/2020 22:01

Mine has lots of checks a day, but all.at the same time?? So yesterday it checked like 15 times but all at 4.27pm...

MrsMidgeMaisel · 01/11/2020 22:03

I posted this on another thread today - and now having seen the articles about the app not being sensitive and this pos here I'm reposting;

I've previously had 2 'phantom' notifications where I get a notification from the app and when I go into the app there's nothing there. I've ignored it because articles I read said unless you get something in the app it was a glitch...

However my housemate tested positive this morning. She input the details into the app. About 30 mins later I received a notification (presumably from her positive result) and then when I went into the app there was nothing there.

Even more worryingly last week I had one of these phantom notifications and I ignored it because I had heard that they were meaningless. Now wondering if I'd beeen exposed and that's where housemate got Covid from as we've been careful and only infrequently go out.

Wondering now in light of the article saying the settings were wrong whether these phantom notifications were genuine exposures ?

DonLewis · 01/11/2020 22:04

Oh, I didn't know you could do this. So I've checked. It says it's checked 0 times in 14 days. Ffs. I am diligent about checking in (work in a university and work across several buildings) but what's the point?

NC4Now · 01/11/2020 22:22

Mine checks every two hours, but I’m in a very high risk area. However, I had a notification, clicked on it and can’t find what it is - it doesn’t take me to anything in the app or anywhere else, so I don’t know what it said 😕

dementedpixie · 01/11/2020 22:22

Is it an android phone? Mine seemed to have auto disabled the app so I had to turn it back on @DonLewis

This tells you about the phantom notifications

tappitytaptap · 01/11/2020 22:25

I’ve deleted the app, it’s always flashing up with those phantom things and I figure I’m not exactly going to be doing any wild socialising this month

nameychange · 01/11/2020 22:45

Thanks @AlexandraEiffel didn’t know that.

DahliaMacNamara · 01/11/2020 23:28

@DahliaMacNamara

I've just been through my settings and can't see anything like that. Notifications and Bluetooth are on. I really don't get out much.
Finally found it in Google as advised upthread. Great, because that's where the average punter will look. What a crock of shit.
LazyLucille · 01/11/2020 23:53

Mine hadn't updated since 23rd which is when I had a positive covid result so was isolating but I was feee as of yesterday and it hasn't started scanning again.

Icanseeclearlynow12 · 02/11/2020 00:45

Mine says it's checked 176 times in the last 14 days, seems like a lot considering I dont really go anywhere apart from work and the school run

Optimist1 · 02/11/2020 08:23

@Hairydilemma - thanks, that worked. Far from intuitive, as you say.

Hairydilemma · 02/11/2020 09:16

Ah brilliant - me providing technical information to anyone has to be a first so I’m pleased it worked Grin

Whirlwind14 · 02/11/2020 09:22

What does the provided key count mean?
My phone has checked twice at 0751 and the number is different? 1225 and 790. I’ve not been anywhere since yesterday morning??

dementedpixie · 02/11/2020 09:24

Is that not when people input positive results and the app checks whether you were a close contact or not?

Whirlwind14 · 02/11/2020 09:28

I’m not sure- surely 1225 people haven’t tested positive from a supermarket yesterday? I’m in a relatively low area...

dementedpixie · 02/11/2020 09:43

Is that not the anonymous number generated by the app rather than an amount of people?

Lumene · 02/11/2020 09:44

Mine doesn’t say anything about whether it has checked or not at all?!?

Just check my app exposure notifications
dementedpixie · 02/11/2020 09:50

Are you in your phone settings?

Whirlwind14 · 02/11/2020 10:19

@dementedpixie sorry, I can’t get my head around this! So the 3 or 4 digit number is the random ID of someone who’s tested positive?

Surely there wouldn’t be a positive case on every check??

dementedpixie · 02/11/2020 10:25

Its the positive case that causes the check. The app then checks the random numbers that were generated between the 2 phones and assesses if you were close enough for long enough for you to be a close contact

Whirlwind14 · 02/11/2020 10:30

@dementedpixie thank you.

I’ve been googling and unable to find an answer. I only discovered all of this yesterday afternoon when I got to messages- the first saying I’d been exposed, the second that it wasn’t considered a risk by the algorithm.

I’ll go and worry about something else now!

dementedpixie · 02/11/2020 10:32

Ah you got a phantom notification. There's a few threads about them too!

DahliaMacNamara · 02/11/2020 10:40

I've just had a more extensive look at the checks, and it still looks like a bloody mess to me. Can't remember the exact number but let's say 152 checks over the last 14 days, fine. But the vast majority of these are a whole bunch at the same time. Seven 'checks' at 04:04 on the 27th October, for example. Eleven at 08:58 on the 30th. The fuck is that meant to be? Presumably it's not instantaneous, as I'm nowhere near anyone else at those times, or indeed most of the time.
