Are people stockpiling in your area?

They are where I am!

Went to pick up a few things from Sainsbury's earlier and they had no bread, no toilet roll and the rice and pasta isle was pretty much empty.

Why are people doing this?!

It's creates a massive knock on effect as then others who weren't originally panic buying then start to think they need too.

I have an 8 month old baby and now I'm thinking should I stock up on her milk & nappies etc? We always keep a couple of tubs in the house as spare anyway but I remember throughout the last lockdown I really struggled to get her some milk! But then if I do that, I'm as bad as them!

It just really stresses me out and I wish people wouldn't do itSad

I work in a supermarket and while shops are busier than normal the stock levels seem to be holding well.

After my Asda experience yesterday I went to my local Sainburys and it was fine - not busy, lots of stock, no panic whatsoever

My sister went to do her usual weekly shop in a Tesco superstore and she said there was no flour, no loo rolls, no pasta, sugar, eggs, dried fruit and also no shower gel!

DH went to Asda just to get oat milk as we have almost run out and he said the shelves were pretty empty with no flour, no eggs and no soap, hand wash or shower gel!

Why are people buying up shower gel?

I went to Aldi and Morrison’s at about 8.30 today. No queues, everything well stocked.

My mum went later on in the morning and said the same.

Hopefully this will continue.

My local Sainsbury’s today, cleaning products very low & saw someone with practically a trolley load of loo roll no other shopping in the trolley just why? Also formula & nappies shelves quite bare.

If people want to stockpile toilet roll, they should get it from Amazon in 45 and 72 packs rather than buy bulk from the shops. I always get mine from Amazon as they do the one I like in 45 packs

Middle of second and last week on firebreak lockdown in NE Wales and shelves are all fully stocked. No panic buying or stockpiling at all 😊

Sainsburys seemed well stocked with everything today except, surprisingly, eggs. I had to buy the blue Heritage ones, not a great problem. Plenty of loo rolls.

No problems near me in the middle of Manchester. Went in a few shops today and all fully stocked.

Went back into my online shop to amend and 5 items were out of stock.
Loo rolls
Soap
Baby wipes
Tinned tomatoes
Pasta
All had alternatives but loo rolls were only 4 packs
Dread to think what else will be out of stock by Friday and what ridiculous substitutions will occur.

I'm in the Midlands and Aldi seemed normal yesterday.

Butter seems to be the item of choice to stockpile locally here!

And eggs but just large eggs.

I blame GBBO myself.

What I really enjoy about this is people being annoyed at others for selfishly stockpiling, whereas they are just sensibly making sure they have a few extra bits in. It was like all the people in the earlier lockdown complaining at the number of people out and about whilst they were out and about themselves. My parents have so many fucking home delivery slots booked across a range of supermarkets they are constantly losing track of what they have ordered and when its due and they complain bitterly about people taking up delivery slots...

@formulation

I have to book 3 deliveries a week because of limits on items it’s ridiculous

Bloody hell, I struggle even getting one spot a fortnight. Maybe because some are booking 3 a week! Grin

I genuinely wish I had the space for 3 deliveries a week tbh. Or enough people to eat all that food

No, I slowly rebuilt my supplies of longer life items over the summer months and have online shopping slots booked up to Christmas week (they released November last week, and December yesterday, so I spent an hour booking a weekly trolley load of fresh items and the odd few bits of cleaning and stores items, - and my very important turkey breast for Thanksgiving later this month!!).

But the shelves, when I was in Lidl for milk on Monday at least, were all still full, and there was only 1 substitution in this week's shopping this morning (1 brand of non-alcoholic beer for another) and nothing unavailable.

3 deliveries a week has to be a wind-up surely?

Just to say when I hear about panic buying it makes me panic - the media have totally fuelled this. I was dreading my weekly shop today but it was totally FINE!! The only aisle a bit low was loo roll but there was still a lot there just a few gaps on the shelves for that. No issue at all with food or anything else and it was calm and quiet . I feel so much better now I've been and see it's not like March

Oh and fireworks this lunchtime, although to be fair I added to that chaos as presume they will be non-essential by tomorrow. To be fair they are non-essential today, but hey, after a mere hour or so managed to purchase a small box!

Asda yesterday, no problem at all. The only thing that looked a bit low was my favourite brand of bread, but more came out as I was standing there (and there were plenty of other brands to choose from).

Tesco yesterday were randomly
out of pitta bread but seemed to have everything else although I didn’t go down the loo roll aisle.

Do people seriously wait until they are on their last roll before buying more? What if you unexpectedly get the runs? Confused

Also... if you think pasta is gloopy then you are definitely cooking it wrong! Grin

No not a wind up-have a v large family.
We previously got 1 big shop a week and a smaller top up one.
With limits on certain products and item limits on a whole shop we now have to get more deliveries unfortunately, I can see why the shops have these limits and it probably works for most people but not those with large families
