WHERE are people catching Covid?

I don't mean where in the country, I mean what settings? I know they lie a lot about it not spreading in schools but is there any data about where they are at least purporting that it's spreading?

I heard recently (although may of been on here) that 25% ofcases were in hospitals.
Although I dont want (or neccessarily think) schools should close, I feel that there is a much higher chance of spreading there than in non essential shops as you have prolonged contact with lots of people. Even on public transport the trains are pretty empty off peak.

It doesn't seem to be "rife" at DS's primary. There have been 2 cases in pupils, separate year groups. Both year groups sent home and no one else caught it. No cases in staff. They seem to be handling it well.

My mum had it, she caught it at work (large NHS hospital) and 5 out of her 7 co workers also got it.

I have several issues with this

Firstly, how do you know where you catch it from. You can have a pretty good idea but can't be certain.

Also workplace covers a multitude of sons . If you work in a school or restaurant does that mean you caught in the workplace or a school or restaurant

Sorry if any of that makes me sound a bit thick

Even Chris Witty's graphs say so and I'm surprised more people haven't noticed.

Oh many of us have noticed. But the media manipulation and the ongoing demonisation of teachers makes a sensible conversation about closing schools during this lockdown impossible. Of course if the govt would help parents financially so they can stay at home if they don't wfh then that might help as well.

Could be anywhere - my mum has got it she can't pinpoint where from

Schools in my area remain very low

We suspect my dad cought COVID in the hospital. He broke his arm, had to go to the hospital twice and he got ill after the 2nd appointment. He tested positive last Friday and now my mum is showing symptoms as well.

Sorry, caught*

I think a lot of people could be wrong about where they got it because the message about aerosol transmission and ventilation hasn’t really got out so many people would be asking themselves ‘who have I been close to? What have I touched?’ rather than ‘what confined spaces have I been in?’

Firstly, how do you know where you catch it from. You can have a pretty good idea but can't be certain.

There is no guarantee but you can narrow it down by looking at what you did and where you were for the 1-5 days before getting symptoms. The less places you have been, the less close contacts you have had, etc helps you to rule it out.

The hospital doctors asked me lots of questions as to where/who/what for those days - hence coming to the conclusion that school was the most likely place I would have caught it from.

Aragog · 08/11/2020 19:26

The big issue with schools is that a lot fo children and young people do not display the big 3 testable symptoms. They often have more cold like symptoms, or other ones, and so aren't being tested. It can then pass on and spread without anyone knowing who the initial person with it was.

Most confined place - classroom Closest contacts - school children (and dh but he has no symptoms/no known covid contacts)

So for me, same likely place.

bluebeck · 08/11/2020 19:31

Work, school, any confined space you have been in.

NotExactlyMrsCurrentAffairs · 08/11/2020 19:54

Pretty certain but can't be 100% that I caught it from either work (school) or my primary and secondary age DC
