I know they will be open, but I am curious to see if parents will feel they will be safer at home.

Yes! Junior school aged DC need to be at school. They really suffered during Lockdown. Pretty much everything else is cancelled so they might as well be at school!

Doje · 31/10/2020 21:31

As long as the schools are happy to take them. I do feel for teachers tbh.

My eldest just kind of 'suits' school - he thrives on the rules, the routine, the learning. And my youngest started this year. He's really enjoying it, and I really want him to get used to the routine. If he gets a whiff of school being optional, he might just decide he doesn't want to choose it. Just y'know....because.

Ignoringequally · 31/10/2020 21:31

To be honest though, if schools had been open from March through to July mine would have gone in. As it was they both went back at the beginning of June.

bathsh3ba · 31/10/2020 21:32

Yes. No way we as a single parent family would survive another lockdown if I didn't. There have been very few cases in my DDs' school.

kowari · 31/10/2020 21:33

Neither of us are vulnerable to Covid so I will be sending my child without a thought. Far better for him to be in school than home alone for weeks again! He is also in year 10 so it is incredibly important that he is there for his education.

Mummyoflittledragon · 31/10/2020 21:34

Absolutely. My dd needs to be with friends as she’s a very sociable being.

Awalkintime · 31/10/2020 21:34

NoDramaMama14 Schools are offering both remote and in class learning that is why we are working up to 100 hours a bloody week right now.

SocialBees · 31/10/2020 21:34

Yes

flowerycurtain · 31/10/2020 21:34

Yes for now.

I'd love to say they'll be in till they shut the doors but if there are cases at school we will remove them pronto.

We have a lot of livestock with 6 staff. At a push dh and I can do the work. We are the last resort and our ultimate priority has to be our health. Not remotely bothered about the kids getting. Not really bothered about my health. We are terrified of how to keep our business going and our animals alive.

Same here. Mine went back as a keyworker child in May and I wish I'd sent him sooner. Thought lockdown would only last six weeks.

@olivesonapizza

Yes.

Also I still don't get this "they will be safer at home" stuff. Covid is and always has been very low risk for children.

I still don't get the people who haven't managed to grasp, after Covid being the main topic of conversation and news coverage for months, that the risk is not only to the children. It's not even hard to imagine a situation.

wavecatcher · 31/10/2020 21:36

Yes totally be sending my primary children

Branleuse · 31/10/2020 21:36

yes I will. It has been really difficult to settle him back after so long off and only just getting there.

They need the normality and structure as much as the education.

JaneAndMichaelStamp · 31/10/2020 21:36

Yes because even though i wfh (and have done for 4 years) there is only so long my employer will put up with "the wifi is down because kids are on it "or" sorry for cancelling the meeting but my 6 year old and 8 year old are punching each other ".

It's as simple as that for me. My job is probably not at risk, i'm certainly not a key worker, but i still need to actually do my job and meet my targets to stay in it!

nowanotherone · 31/10/2020 21:37

Why on earth would you not send your child to school? Unless either parent or the child themselves are vunerable it's entirely ridiculous to suggest you wouldn't send your child to school.

FrippEnos · 31/10/2020 21:38

@NoDramaMama14

I really think that the schools should provide an option for remote learning to keep both teachers and parents safe. Lockdown 2.0 has the colder weather to complicate things further. Why does the government need the worse case scenarios to become a reality before they act??
Ah yes the best of both worlds, whilst not taking in to consideration the increase in work load for teachers.
Velvian · 31/10/2020 21:38

Yes. DS (turned 7 in the summer) really fell behind in lockdown. He found home learning incredibly challenging. As did I while working full time. I'm not sure I could do it again. DD (9) didn't suffer as much and is more of an independent learner.

Snoodleberry · 31/10/2020 21:39

Yes, I care for her mental health and well being. I would like her to finish a term at school, as the last two terms have been cut short/at home.

chickenyhead · 31/10/2020 21:39

I will be, because despite having months to sort out distance learning online, they haven't and I cannot afford the fines.

2 DC in high school who are vulnerable/diabetic, I am high risk only parent with no family support network and an abusive ex who would get custody.

My eldest has an hour journey each way and the school are not enforcing masks in communal areas. She has to go to the sick room twice a day, where they keep all of the suspected covid people.

Whilst they tell children who sit next to positive cases to isolate, they don't tell the Friends of those people. Its all such a fuck up.

WoahHeyThere · 31/10/2020 21:39

Ironic how before the first lockdown everyone was crying for the schools to close and no one was wanting to send their kids back to school when they finally reopened...few months of homeschooling and dealing with the reality and now everyone is desperate to keep them in school 🤣

Trackandtrace · 31/10/2020 21:40

Mine havent been since March and so wont be going back anytime soon

Oly4 · 31/10/2020 21:41

Yes of course I am

schitter · 31/10/2020 21:41

Yes.

m0therofdragons · 31/10/2020 21:42

Despite the fact my “losing my shit” style of teaching seemed to work for dd2 who is now excelling in maths, I’ll be sending her to school!

dollychopss · 31/10/2020 21:44

Yes
