I know they will be open, but I am curious to see if parents will feel they will be safer at home.

it would surely placate those who don't want dc at home, and those who don't feel safe

Surely you can see by now that it’s not to do with not ‘wanting’ children at home.
It’s impossible to care for and educate young children while working full time.

PopsicleHustler · 02/11/2020 05:41

Absolutely not.

My eldest two are vulnerable and I am also vulnerable for 3 reasons. So it's best we stay home. I dont know about fines and I will not be de-registering them as I want them to return in December God willing. More than happy for the school to send work to the eldest two and I will continue teaching the youngest two, as I had done before quite happily and it works around me working from home.
I am however concerned about being fined but will talk to the school this morning. However, yesterday my Dh recieved an email from the senior school, saying there have been cases of covid but they're keeping the school open. Utterly ridiculous.

PopsicleHustler · 02/11/2020 05:44

@DC3Dakota I really hope not. It should be every parents right to remove vulnerable children from their schools.
My eldest kids have severe asthma and weak immune systems. I'm not sending them in

Susanwouldntlikeit · 02/11/2020 05:54

Keeping schools open this time is one of the few things that the government have got right.
Completely agree.
Parents have the right to de-register if they want to, and educate the children at home and just take their chances on re-registering at a later date if there are places available then. But not the right to insist that every other child suffers a lack of education -mind/blowingly selfish.

Really don't de-register your children and do contact your GP today if you want to keep your child at home as the petition asking for voluntary temporary homeschooling is debated tonight.

Don'r de-register children (unless you really want to!)! and do get in touch with BRTUS on Facebook, they are supporting parents at this time who feel it is unsafe to send children in.

LAs will really struggle to take action against a large number of parents not sending in their children. There is a class action that will go through arguing a human rights case for vulnerable parents. I would wait before de-registering, if you can at all.

Yes I will send all three to their schools and I desperately hope Boris will keep schools opened.

My youngest is 4 and her development was interrupted during the 1st lockdown but she is now flourish and loves every moment at school. My oldest start secondary school in September and she cannot wait to return the school after half term. Going to school is important for my children mentally and educationally.

However, I hope schools understand each family's choice and family should have right to keep their children at home for a while.

Sorryusernamealreadyexists · 02/11/2020 06:35

Of course I will, it’s the only place my SEND kid can get an appropriate education

herecomesthsun · 02/11/2020 06:37

@Sonnenscheins

But deep down it feels wrong to send my DC in to school when the advice for everyone else is to stay at home.

But we're making sacrifices and staying at home SO THAT schools and hospitals can stay open.

We're staying at home to keep the numbers of cases and deaths down. If schools stay open, they need to be covid secure. Or they won't stay open for long.

Every child at home will help the schools stay open for others.See it as a public act of support for your choice.

@MH1111

There’s no risk to kids, unless you’re shielding it’s not a decision
1 Formal shielding is paused.

2 There is a Parliamentary debate on this tonight, please get in touch with your MP if you want formal acknowledgement of your right to keep your child at home.

3 Your child your choice in a lockdown, would be common sense.

Wasabiaddiction · 02/11/2020 10:59

Yes. Absolutely yes.

I think it was a huge mistake to close down schools. The unintended consequences were huge.

loulouljh · 02/11/2020 11:03

Of course I will. They need to be educated...that cannot happen at home.

IncidentsandAccidents · 02/11/2020 11:14

Agree with this. I hope no one feels pressured to deregister their child during a lockdown, that would be beyond unfair.

My dc will be at their primary school for as long as its open and we're so grateful to the staff for continuing to give them a lovely experience in the most challenging of circumstances.

GabriellaMontez · 02/11/2020 11:22

My children's teachers are mainly excellent. Especially a few of the practical ones. There is no way they would get that education at home.

It's already been 8 months of disruption to education, extra curricular and social life.

That is a long time in the scale of being at high school. I dont want them to miss a minute more than they absolutely have to.
