If it's OK for teachers to have to carry on working, why isn't it OK for MPs to go back to Parliament and work no PPE and no social distancing? These MPs know how dangerous it is out there and there's no way they'll put themselves in danger, but they're quite happy to throw teachers under the bus. And by the way, I'm not a teacher, I'm an appalled parent.

How many times? It's about reducing overall contact, so if people who can wfh do so, the risk is reduced for everyone.

I'm a teacher too and I'm really sick of hearing this now. If you don't think your role is important enough to carry on, go and do something else.

Basically with the lockdown the government assume there will be enough icu beds for keyworkers if needed ie nurses, hcp teachers. Police etc... Sorry if I've missed you.

Lots of us have had to carry on working from the first lockdown. I work in Care homes in training wear a cheap mask still had Covid twice now. Lots of my colleagues are on bout number 2 even with correct PPE.
So yes teachers should be allowed to wear a mask and take correct precautions but I’m not appalled. It’s shit for many of us unable to work from home And no one should be in this position I’m sad for everyone thrown under the bus.
I’m really grateful my children can go to school just as families feel grateful for care continuing and other vital jobs.

Posts like this make it difficult. It’s shit for everyone working. Not just teachers. You aren’t the only ones working in difficult conditions.

It is not necessary for MP’s to be in the same room as each other for them to do their jobs, so there is no benefit in them doing so. It reduces overall contact/risk.
There is a benefit to teachers being in the same room as their students.
There is no comparison.

It’s not just teachers, it’s the working classes. It we are dispensable. Always have been always will be.

It’s not just teachers- it’s up to everyone who can stay home to do so- sorry but teachers, police etc can’t.

I'm a teacher and have been as careful as possible. Worn a visor, opened all the windows, regular sanitizing etc . It's been a really hard job this last few months. Harder than normal. I really needed half term. I have had Covid all half term obviously because I work in a school. To say it's shit is a massive understatement. 😔

If you can work from home, work from home. If you can’t, get on with it. Is that really so difficult to understand? I would much prefer to be in the office but I will work from home because my job can be done for home and I am helping to reduce the risk for other people.

I usually have a huge amount of sympathy for teachers (from a family of teachers) but every single person I know in the private sector is desperate to work, to hang on to their job, to save their business etc.

And some of us had to work through the last lockdown, with no time off at all.

At least teachers have a job, which is valued and protected.

See these boards for the vitriol and contempt poured on teachers during the last lockdown and which continues to this day. As for protected, many are not even allowed to wear masks, the protections offered are pitiful and come out of shrinking budgets.

I work in manufacturing, in the office of a large factory with no PPE. There are about 100 people there. We've had 4 cases of Covid so far, I haven't caught it yet. Not the same as schools, but not everyone is safely working from home. I can't work from home so I'm just cracking on.

This pisses me off so much! It's a bit like telling people who complain about bin services to outsource their own bin emptying. Parents should not be threatened with fines during a global pandemic.

Echt, the PP meant the job is protected. Which it is, compared to oh so many others. Ì have thanked my lucky stars every day of this thing that I don't work in any number of far less fortunate sectors.

I'm afraid much of the vitriol aimed at teachers has been brought on us by the attitudes of our colleagues, who refuse to recognise how lucky we are.

I have to work and I have to provide my own PPE and sanitiser.
