I just want normality not just for one day 😩

Yep 🤯

Qasd · 31/10/2020 20:26

It’s just a pr stunt to convince people there is a pint and something to aim for. They are not saving Christmas because the virus will still be here for Christmas. I am interested in how many people will be convinced by the messaging though!

AldiIsla · 31/10/2020 20:27

'Saving Christmas' is a personal thing. I have small children so I've made plans so that they will have a nice day whatever the rules are.

I assume the government Save Christmas message is just to try and get everyone to behave for a bit so the NHS doesn't crumble.

I've been waiting 4 weeks for an urgent cancer scan. Call it whatever, but I'd prefer the NHS wasn't swamped so I can get treatment.

IHateCoronavirus · 31/10/2020 20:28

I completely agree. I say that as someone who normally loves Christmas, with a DF who might not see another. It just seems so shortsighted to risk so much for the sake of one day.

Splodgetastic · 31/10/2020 20:31

It would actually have made more sense from an economic perspective to lockdown over Christmas for two weeks when lots of things are shut anyway. Also, it’s not just Eid that was impacted, but Passover, Easter, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Shavuot, Vaisakhi, two Equinoxes, the Solstice and many others.

TitsInAbsentia · 31/10/2020 20:31

Don't care about Christmas I'd just like to see my parents and my nan again this year. At the moment I don't feel confident either will happen.

popcornlover · 31/10/2020 20:32

Yes, I am fed up of save Xmas too. Seems like people were going on about “I want my Xmas” back in August. Really? Probably the same loons who had all their mates round during lockdown. Why can’t people just tone it down a bit for Xmas this year. You’re fine if you are not alone, toughen up. Those who are alone should be allowed to travel. But here we go, more restrictions just so everyone can drink themselves stupid with everyone in their address book.

melodypondisasuperhero · 31/10/2020 20:32

My whole family is abroad so unless there's a miracle between now and then I won't be seeing anyone for Christmas.

chickenyhead · 31/10/2020 20:35

I thought it was about the NHS, not Christmas. Christmas is totally irrelevant if we can't even get basic healthcare when we need it.

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 31/10/2020 20:35

You know when they say " save Christmas", they don't mean the day right? Its saving the Christmas season as much as possible. So many companies rely on the Christmas season income - gifts, new clothes, meals/drinks out - its a lifeline for many companies who have struggled over this year and can take a shit November if it means they can trade in their most profitable month. Its well known many theatres are only able to fund the more high brow cultural events through the year with the panto profits.

Its not about if you get to eat turkey with your Nan. Its if the turkey farmer gets to sell you a turkey to eat, and M&S sell you a nice top to wear to your Nans house, and if the little independent shop can sell you a nice gift for your Nan, and majestic can sell you a few bottles of wine....

ViciousJackdaw · 31/10/2020 20:37

I've been waiting 4 weeks for an urgent cancer scan. Call it whatever, but I'd prefer the NHS wasn't swamped so I can get treatment

I would much rather you (and all others who are waiting) had your scan asap than go to some overpriced market in the city centre or a panto starring someone who was in Hollyoaks four years ago. Isn't that what Christmas is really all about, goodwill to ALL.

Florencemattell · 31/10/2020 20:37

Agree , who cares about Christmas!
I care about the possibility of the NHS being overwhelmed, then people would die who otherwise could be saved. Young people may die .

Echobelly · 31/10/2020 20:39

Yup - people of other faiths did without their big family gatherings (including us on Jewish festivals) - Christmas doesn't get a special exception because more people do it.

In fact I can tell you some of my co-religionists show exactly what happens when you don't follow the rules - sure enough, Stamford Hill, where lots of ultra-Orthodox Jews lives has one of the highest levels in London because a whole bunch of them thought they were an exception on the high holy days in September. Imagine that but with a whole country if people don't think again.

Lauradoralaura · 31/10/2020 20:39

Yanbu, I don't get all the fuss about Christmas. It's one day. There is so much more at stake.

CraftyGin · 31/10/2020 20:40

@Dickorydockwhatthe

I just want normality not just for one day 😩
There’s nothing normal about Christmas Day.
MummyFoxy · 31/10/2020 20:40

Couldn't agree more.

fussychica · 31/10/2020 20:43

Totally agree. Let's forget the Christmas crap people's lives and livelihoods are at stake.
If this ends on 2nd Dec people will just rush out and do their Christmas shopping etc and we'll be back where we started.

Bluewavescrashing · 31/10/2020 20:45

They just want people to spend as if its a normal Christmas.

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/10/2020 20:46

I can’t be the only one with no spare cash to splash on Xmas anyway? I’ll lose £450 next week alone as I’m self employed.

Nameandgamechange123 · 31/10/2020 20:47

Totally agree. Very few people are not religious but are frantic about celebrating on Christmas day.

KittyMcKitty · 31/10/2020 20:48

@cushioncovers

Glad someone else mentioned Eid.
Agree totally.
LampHat · 31/10/2020 20:49

It’s driving me mad. They’re obsessed! And the contrast with Eid is awful.

MushMonster · 31/10/2020 20:49

Same here. Every time they say the word Christmas, I cringe! I am scared that people will meet up indoors in large numbers, and a huge spike in the virus will follow! I would rather they say end of December, end of year, or whatever...........
It is just one day in the year. I do love whatsapp, facebook, skype and so on for this. To be honest, you can have a nice convo with someone far away. And with the bubbles, hopefully no one will be completely alone, without too much people mingling.
I would rather they get looking forward to the day NHS has all their normal procedures back, and the GPs do actually give appointments to their patients.

Cocklepops · 31/10/2020 20:51

@TibetanTerrier get to fuck.

namechangenumber204 · 31/10/2020 20:53

This is my mothers last Christmas as she has terminal cancer - assuming she lives that long so yes, I do want the one day, because it means a lot to her. I'm never really bothered about it but I will be going over there because this will be our last one as a complete family.
