Thought I'd make a thread for those of us who just tested positive within the last week to help each other through our covid journeys Halloween Smile

Sorry everyone's having a bit of a rubbish day. ThanksCakeWine

I've had an ok day, and this afternoon have actually felt a lot brighter. I can tell because I've done nearly 5000 steps whereas yesterday I did only 2000. My head feels a lot less fuzzy and I concentrated better on my work. It may have been helped by the fact that I sent a few stern emails last night to my line manager saying he needed to field some of the crap I've been having thrown my way, plus they've had to close a bubble at school today and that meant SLT weren't emailing me all day because they were tied up with that.

I really really hope this signifies the beginning of the end. I did my 1000 steps round the garden today but oh my, I miss running so much. I might (might) go on the treadmill tomorrow, just for a few minutes. I have gone from running 40 km a week to literally nothing. The thought of going to work on Monday is cheering me actually, but I want to feel better and ready to go in because it's going to be mega full on from the off.

Someone (a bit of a busybody) I know keeps messaging me to say even if you don't have a cough you should take expectorant to loosen any mucus on your chest, what's everyone's thoughts on that? My instinct is to say I'm not taking something that I don't need, but wondered if anyone had heard that anywhere?

ScottishDream · 11/11/2020 20:36

@thenewaveragebear1983 if you are not suffering from chest congestion I’m not sure what good an expectorant would do. They are not side effect free anyway. Surely just keep hydrated and avoid coffee/alcohol and smoking will help.

Lemons1571 · 11/11/2020 20:43

@Trailing1

Our family of 4 adults and 1 child are positive, (first case a week ago and last one confirmed this Monday) trying to rest as much as we can but the volume of calls from test and trace are ruining any chance of rest. I'm afraid I lost it at the last person who called.
Do you have to answer the phone, legally? I couldn’t cope with that and would just turn the ringer off.

Fair enough if they send someone round, but I don’t want to be made more ill by constant interruptions preventing me recovering.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/11/2020 20:53

@ScottishDream that's my thoughts. Surely most cough medicines are ineffective anyway, plus I'm not feeling like I have congestion on my chest. We all know a corona expert don't we?!

@Lemons1571 it's because you all get the calls I think so if there's 4 adults they will ring once or twice for each of you. My dh and dd both got several calls. I got no calls at all.

is there a way we can initiate the track & test process ourselves? i haven’t heard from them despite getting my positive result 24hrs ago, and would like to give them my details!

Rescueremmum · 11/11/2020 21:25

Starting to think that I actually had covid a couple of weeks ago reading some of your symptoms and journeys.

I started with a headache but this is pretty normal for me between hay-fever and sinus problems I always stick it down to that, I got really exhausted was sleeping really early on pretty much as soon as I relaxed I went to sleep--this is unusual for me I am normally a night owl
I felt genuinely dreadful about a week later for 3 days I was breathless doing the small amount of tasks loading the dishwasher folding washing etc also about 4 days previous to that my throat became I wouldn't say sore but irritated my period was a week late and I had dreadful back pain in my lower left side.

I never got tested even though it did cross my mind to do so but I didn't because I never got a cough, I never lost my sense of smell or taste, I never got what I class as high temprature but I was running at 37.1 when normally I am 36.3-4 depending.

I feel awful not getting tested now

If you have the app you can enter your test results on that?
bimbimbap · 11/11/2020 22:00

i did enter my details on the app, but before i got sick i had recently visited places where i didn’t need to scan in / used ‘manual’ sign in sheets so wanted to notify whoever i need to!

Loobieloo27 · 11/11/2020 22:52

I tested positive today, symptoms started a few days ago, first felt like a head cold, went to work Monday night and couldn't smell or taste when I woke up.

Now I'm left with no smell or taste, a regular stabbing pain in my chest that comes in waves and a headache behind the eyes.

I am NHS bank staff and I'm not entitled to sick pay or anything!

SheilaTakeABow · 12/11/2020 09:35

Morning all. Hope everyone is feeling brighter this morning.
My temp is back to normal. Having a bit of a panic over my breathing, which as we know makes our breathing worse, but realistically it's fine - oximeter numbers normal once I calm myself down.
I just want to feel safe again Sad

BloomedAgain · 12/11/2020 09:59

Heard from a friend who had unusual headache, exhaustion, slightly higher temp but not fever etc and didn't test as didn't have the usual symptoms.to qualify for one. He's thinking of having an antibody test as it's too late for him to do a swab. If he can find a reputable one. So many of us start with a headache etc

Smelliethenelephant · 12/11/2020 10:03

@SheilaTakeABow sorry you're having a bad day the breathing thing is the worst.

SheilaTakeABow · 12/11/2020 10:23

Thanks @Smelliethenelephant, hope you're feeling better today. It really is the gift that keeps on giving, isn't it? Confused

HarrietOh · 12/11/2020 11:09

Day 6 for me, my headache felt better yesterday but it's feeling a bit worse today. Still can't smell anything but have some taste back now, I would say it's not completely normal.
Have a very slight cough, as in I cough once or twice every couple hours and probably wouldn't have even noticed if it wasn't for fact I've tested positive, don't actually feel like there's anything wrong with my throat or chest.

ScottishDream · 12/11/2020 11:13

Day 14 here and I’m back to normal levels of energy. My sense of smell is reduced but improving.
I have the remains of a slight cough, but nothing major.

blobbyface · 12/11/2020 11:15

Day 6 here - feel worse again today. Out of breath when moving around( having a shower was exhausting) and headache. No cough really - occasional. I felt better yesterday as had more energy.

HarrietOh · 12/11/2020 11:16

I must say I can't wait for day 11, I am desparate to get outside for a walk and some fresh air, it's so sunny today and as I live by the coast I'm always out at the beach.

I'm also really missing exercise! I last did a workout on day 1 (a few hours before my headache appeared), I'm being cautious though and going to rest until my headache has gone at least.

HarrietOh · 12/11/2020 11:17

@blobbyface - sounds similar to me, day 5 I felt better and positive, today I feel like I've took a bit of a step back with my headache. Not feeling particularly out of breath though, thankfully.

incognitomum · 12/11/2020 12:11

Day 7 for me from test. I have a congestion feeling headache. Sense of smell is more or less back. I enjoyed a roast dinner last night and that's the first thing I've really enjoyed for a week.

DottyWott · 12/11/2020 18:27

Day 19 and I got my first hint of a taste today. Woohoo!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/11/2020 19:48

I felt so much better today, that's day 9. I am glad because I was really starting to feel like I'd be returning to work feeling horrendous.
I did 3km (slow) round the garden in Laps today like a prisoner in the exercise yard - god that felt good!

Our school has sent home over 100 kids today because of one positive test (staff) and one child. That's 1/3 of our students and almost half of our staff off .
I wonder whether we will even be open next week for me to go back to!

ScottishDream · 12/11/2020 19:57

@thenewaveragebear1983 I have 3/4 students off in most classes marked "ill" No confirmed cases in school yet, but I'm sure there will be soon.

I felt pretty much normal most of today. I do feel a bit tired and yucky now, also worried that I'm suddenly going to take a turn for the worse. I've got a bit of a dry tickly cough - I've not had one since the start of being ill.
Another early night.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/11/2020 21:05

@ScottishDream it shows the impact of cases in schools. We're having an outbreak to be honest: we had 4 office staff come down during half term and they really should have isolated me but didn't because of the 48hrs rule. So I then went in and took down the senco, head, deputy and cover supervisor and the only surviving office member . CS tested positive and with her took 2 classes and 2 teachers. One of those teachers has tested positive and has taken down 10 teachers and 50 kids. And one independent child case had Taken out all of yr 7 and about 6 teachers We don't have a huge number of positive cases, I think 8 in total but the impact is catastrophic. This has all unfolded in the 9 days I've been off!

SheilaTakeABow · 12/11/2020 21:12

@ScottishDream, sorry to hear you're feeling a bit yucky. I think we're pretty much at the same stage, and TBH I've had a crappy day too. Bit more breathless and dizzy. Hopefully just a standard blip Flowers

HarrietOh · 13/11/2020 09:43

Day 7, woke up the usual headache but sprayed a bit of perfume and surprised to find I can smell it again! Wouldn't say it's 100% but can definitely smell it a bit.

Hoping this headache stops soon.
