Positive test and only symptom is tiredness. Did anyone start off ok and get worse?

I’ve just had a positive test result but feel fine apart from feeling really tired. I’ve had none of the symptoms the NHS list.

Did anyone start off ok but then deteriorate? I’m feeling a bit anxious about it.

Extreme fatigue has been known as a symptom for a while now but for some reason they are still sticking with the offical 2 symptoms for testing.

Then they wonder why it is spreading!
@MJMG2015 I always tend to be tired a lot. This is a different type of tired then I usually have. My whole body feels tired and weak I also feel very spaced out.
It's so hard to compare 'tiredness' isn't it.

I never have 'loads of energy' anymore, ever.

But you kind of get used to that being your normal.

But after I had my appendix out they put me on BP meds and they made me feel sick and unable to stay awake

Since my flu jab I've felt even more tired than normal and keep finding myself going from sitting to lying on the sofa but (not yet anyway) at the point where I cannot wash up a few mugs (as I have in the past)

Worries me that those BP meds (even down to a teeny tiny dose) wiped me out. If I get CV the 'cure' could be as bad as the virus.

Reading about healthy, fit, 20 somethings getting very ill from it is terrifying to this 51yo, diabetic, with low tolerance to medication who already feels wiped out.

I hope you feel better in a couple of days! 🌷

@Missandra do you have a good support network? Live with people? (sorry if I've missed it)

I think the breathlessness is the hardest symptom I've had so far, if I try to talk too much or do much around the house then it's quite a struggle. Was making me a bit anxious but I have an oximeter, which helps to keep track. And calm any anxieties over it.

I think it’s really important not to think yourself ill. If all you feel is tired with it, there’s no reason to think it will get worse than that. If, by days 5-9, it’s not got any worse that’s great.

You can help yourself by trying not to get anxious, getting lots of rest, not pushing yourself.

I very much agree with this.

Hi OP. A friend of mine felt very lethargic for about six days. No other symptoms. His work had him tested, he was positive. This was in early September. He did continue to feel tired for a further week but didn't develop any other symptoms. He's been absolutely fine since.

I tested positive last weekend. After having sniffles and a headache for two days. The tiredness is the worst but luckily I Haven’t Been breathless. When I booked the symptoms are now listed including way more than the cough and temperature people are mentioning

Positive test and only symptom is tiredness. Did anyone start off ok and get worse?

Yeah totally didn't mean it negatively, ... but well done for such a smug post.

Why the hostility? OP feels OK at present but knows she is infected and is worried about getting worse. What's smug about that?

I started off with a sore throat and deteriorated every day for about ten or twelve days. My chest is very wheezy and I’m breathless, inside my ears, nose and throat are sore, my joints and bones and aching, I feel shattered, my head is thumping. Now nearly three weeks on, I wake up feeling slightly improved, but then deteriorate as the day goes on. It’s really floored me.

I was in bed all day weds with a terrible headache and sickness and tiredness more than I usually get with fibromyalgia. My throat has been sore on and off the last few weeks but put that down to heating being on. My head lasted a few days but I do tend to get headaches just not usually bedridden with them. It did strike me that I might be coming down with something but I'm OK today for the first time this week. Hope you get better soon xxxx

Hi OP, this is how mine started - complete exhaustion, couldn't get out of bed. 2-3 days later, I got fever, cough and then a few other symptoms off the list! It's hard to know, everyone seems to have a different experience. But mine hasn't been severe, just like an annoying bad cold. All the best.

Three colleagues all have tested positive. One thought they had a cold until 5 days in lost smell and taste. Still no cough. The other was tested as part of a pre-op and is completely asymptomatic. The third has a cold. No cough or temp. He fibbed to get a test (do not condone this) on the basis he has been in close contact with the above. It makes me wonder how many people have had it and are unaware

I think so many people experience it in different ways.

I think this is the thing to note.
Currently 9 people at my work have tested positive int he last 2-3 weeks and we have all had it in different ways.

Some have had virtually no symptoms, bar a bit of a cough - the type you'd be borderline on whether it was testable or not, but because we've had cases people tested to be on the safe side.

Others have been knocked over with it and are in bed feeling unwell - chest tightness, tiredness, coughs, the odd higher temperature, etc.

I was in hospital with it as my blood pressure became dangerously high. Its been over two week weeks since my original (none testable) symptoms started and I am still shattered, still achy and still out of breath climbing the stairs. I've managed a few hours out of bed the last two or three days, before that I was in bed pretty much all day.

My symptoms were very similar to when I had pneumonia.
Others have had more like cold, or flu type symptoms.
Others almost nothing.

@Auntpetunia2015 I think that is the symptoms list in the US, if you're in the UK you're only meant to book a test with a cough, temperature or loss of taste/smell.

That’s a very good point. I’m over analysing every sniffle or ache, I definitely need to stop doing that.

I got a positive test on the 15th but it started on the 11th. My symptoms have been stomach cramps for 2 days, very mild cold, then nothing until I noticed that I couldnt smell anything. Not even zoflora. I have been pushing myself and continuing to work, which I probably shouldn't have been. But I haven't really had fatigue. I've been very lucky. I just hope my sense of smell comes back!

Thanks for all your replies. They’ve all helped and I feel less anxious now.

I’m sorry some people have had a rough time Flowers

We’re just going to have to hunker down and get on with it. We don’t have family nearby who can help with shopping etc but luckily I had a big shop delivered the other day and have booked a shop for Sunday to top up on fresh stuff.

I’m living in a household with someone who is positive. Theirs started with a headache and then the very obvious cough.

I believe I probably also have it but can’t get tested as I don’t have one of the 3 symptoms. What I do feel like is tired, sore throat, heavy chest, almost like someone is crushing it. Hurts to breath in.

Not bad enough to need medical intervention but bad enough to feel uncomfortable. Have felt like this for 6 days so far and it’s getting worse not better.

This is a really interesting thread. I've been very tired for a couple of weeks now, a pretty much constant headache and my body being so tired I couldn't do more than half of any of my workouts. I put it down to it being a particularly long, stressful and busy half term but now I'm wondering if I've had it. I've been in school all that time...

I’d say get a test. Just say yes to having symptoms. You should be isolating anyway as you live with someone who has it. But you can go out for a test.

And that is how it’s spreading. I got a test because I had a headache. My test came back positive. If I’d waited till I got the cough I would have been another 3 days and then spread it to gods know who else. Use your common sense if you feel that ill get a test.

A friend had 'only fatigue' and never got any other symptoms. The fatigue got worse though, and was bad enough to keep him in bed for nearly two weeks.

Take care of yourself and go easy, even if it is 'only' fatigue that you experience!

I think a lot of us are. I know I'm dreading a loss of taste/smell as as well as covid for me it could mean I'm becoming Anaemic. And tiredness is a symptom of two existing health conditions getting out of control.
