How many people have you touched in the last 6 months?

Went for a walk with a friend the other day and accidentally brushed her arm going through a gate. It felt very odd. Thinking about it, apart from that I really don't think I've touched anyone else outside of my household since march.

Was then talking to another friend about it and she reckoned she'd touched about 20. Not job related, just socially. Wtf?!

So what's your number?? Feel like this is the covid version of the 'how many people have you slept with?' threads!! 🤣

1 regularly- DP
1 occasional - hug my DS - (he's not a touchy-feely person)
3 others - 2 friends when drunk launched hugs at me, and 1 friend's daughter quick birthday side hug
Oh and 1 colleague I hugged from behind as she was very upset about a bereavement.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 22/10/2020 08:18

My daughter, 2 sisters, 2 nieces, 2 nephews, my dad, DD's partner and my OH.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 22/10/2020 08:19

Oh I forgot my auntie, cousin and my uncle.

Peanutbutteryogurt · 22/10/2020 08:19

Same number of people I would've touched pre-covid I reckon, but I never made a habit of touching people if I didn't need to anyway.

sar302 · 22/10/2020 08:20

I've hugged:
My husband and child everyday
My mum and dad once.
My friend who was having a miscarriage
My friend who's husband was diagnosed with cancer.
Haven't touched anyone else.

The think that makes me hate it all the most, was that I hesitated before hugging my friends. This time last year there wouldn't have been a part of me that paused before offering a friend comfort. Even for a second.

WankPuffins · 22/10/2020 08:24

Only Dh and my kids.

But to be honest, I don’t hug or tough anyone anyway, not family or friends. I can’t bear it.

Yerroblemom1923 · 22/10/2020 08:25

Only two outside of family. One was a surprise hug from a close friend thanking me for a birthday gift - he sprung it on me, he's a natural hugger and think was just overwhelmed and forgot. The other a friend who had just lost a family member.
There are some older people who seem to forget and get too close or naturally pat your arm etc - I'm never quite sure how to react in those circumstances.
Oh and the smear test nurse, of course. No hugging involved there just usual procedure!

longwayoff · 22/10/2020 08:25

...

NeedToKnow101 · 22/10/2020 08:27

Oh and before covid I would regularly hug / kiss about 20 friends - in-laws etc. so physical contact has massively lessened. Never been one for shaking hands though.

mrshonda · 22/10/2020 08:31

No-one, it's miserably lonely

40somethingJBJ · 22/10/2020 08:32

Other than ds, I accidentally shook hands with someone at the beginning of lockdown and have been blood tested twice in the last few months.

CovidPostingName · 22/10/2020 08:32

Have socialised mostly outdoors and fully distanced apart from three indoor cafe coffees in the last month, and never ever with more than one person at a time. Have only actually seen seven individual people anyway and on less than four occasions each, some only once. Within that I've hugged two of those friends once each briefly. One friend twice briefly. One friend high fived. Hugged Mil and Fil twice each.

Have also had to have a dental appt, a hygienist appt, a doctor's appt, four eye tests (don't ask!) and a hearing test, all of which required physical contact of varying degree.

SimonJT · 22/10/2020 08:33

Son
Partner
Barber
Dentist
GP
Diabetes nurse
Lady on the tube who needed help standing from a seated position

frozendaisy · 22/10/2020 08:33

About 15

Sidge · 22/10/2020 08:37

Hundreds.

Mustardbay · 22/10/2020 08:37

Probably over 1000, I'm a private dental nurse and we are the busiest we've ever been

SniffyMiffy · 22/10/2020 08:38

I've elbow bumped with a few people as a joke but the only people outside of my immediate family who I've actually had physical contact with were my hairdresser (once - I am regretting not getting a second cut when cases were still low!) and a friend who was drunk and caught me out by giving me a hug back in August. I have seen plenty of my mum and dad but been very careful to maintain at least a 2m distance at all times as they are elderly and vulnerable.
It must be very lonely for those who don't have anyone to hug.

VirginiaWolverine · 22/10/2020 08:39

DH, DC, my hairdresser, most of my colleagues and a fuckload of strangers because I work in a shop and people touch me when paying/handing things over/passing things to me. And an old lady who needed help crossing the road.

SniffyMiffy · 22/10/2020 08:40

.... oh and the pharmacist when I had my flu jab last week.

Juanmorebeer · 22/10/2020 08:42

DH, DD and my crewmate at work a few times as we travel in a car together all day, things like brush of the arm, passing each other things etc.

Other than that several people I've had to restrain or help walk or put into a vehicle. Other than that, nobody else this is really weird now I think about it.

Mintjulia · 22/10/2020 08:42

Two, my ds and my dsis.

And the only reason I touched dsis was because she had a broken arm, and slipped and nearly fell on her cast and I grabbed her.

I'm so lucky to have ds. It must be awful for those who live alone.

RaspberryToupee · 22/10/2020 08:42

Outside of DH, the hairdresser has done my hair but I didn’t touch her. We went to the pub and a regular grabbed my hand and shook it. I immediately applied hand sanitiser after.

My dogs have had more human contact than me.

PeppaPigOinkOinkOink · 22/10/2020 08:42

Too many to count. I work in A&E so can't really get away with not touching people.

Doodiesbear · 22/10/2020 08:45

Outside of my bubble, 2 people I've touched.
However the amount barging past me, knocking into me, grabbing my arm and tapping me on the shoulder - loads, and the one who repeatedly pointed her finger into my shoulder whilst giving me a good telling off.
I love working with the general public.

PuzzledObserver · 22/10/2020 08:47

Let’s see...

DH
The woman who gave me my flu jab
The dying woman whose hand I held (professionally)
My hairdresser
A colleague who patted me on the shoulder, though I can’t quite remember why.

That’s it. Although tbf, I’m not a massively huggy person. I would have shaken quite a few hands (professionally) and given my Mum and sister a hug the one time I’ve seen them since March.
