Hi,
I just want to add my experience for info and to remind people to be careful.
I am not yet 40, healthy weight with no real health problems. I am now in my 3rd week of Covid.
The first week was all flu like. Awful headache, pains in limbs, sore, hoarse throat. No smell and taste funny. The cough started after a few days.

The second week became hell, temperature spiking, lying in puddles of sweat, all other symptoms too. Phoned doctor and given an antibiotic incase I developed a secondary bacterial infection.
I lay in bed hoping to get over it, as the doctor said, I'm young and healthy.
My husband, after another week made me phone the doctor who told me to go to a and e.
My immune system had crashed and I have pneumonia. I'm home on steroids and antibiotics but have been told that it will be a long recovery.
Please take it seriously. I should have had a mild case if rumour were to be believed.

What a heartless and misleading response user147.

OP, I hope you make a faster recovery than expected. Thank you for sharing your experience.

katie2812 · 20/10/2020 20:33

Speedy recovery OP. Glad you have shared this I think it's good to offer experiences good and bad. I work in hospital and have witnessed younger people who "shouldn't suffer from covid" become seriously ill with it.

It's difficult because people's mental health and other illnesses are at stake whilst covid is around. I don't think I would cope not seeing them again.

But seeing people suffer in hospital with it, young people I might add, it is scary.

linerforlife · 20/10/2020 20:33

Best of luck with your recovery OP. Always good to be reminded how important it is to be vigilant about this and take it seriously.

And the same is true of flu and tonsillitis that turns in to a lethal strep infection......

Not in these numbers.

Ok. So you are the 1 in a million who is not ok ?

There is the same odds with a tooth extraction 
1 in a million?

"Has the news been lying to us and actually only around 67 people have been more than 'mildly unwell' with Covid and not tens of thousands dead and many tens of thousands more suffering weeks and months later with long Covid?"

No but lots of people have been asymptotic so not even known they have had it so not even been included in the numbers

MamaMiaMama · 20/10/2020 20:39

*asymptomatic

Some despicable and utterly heartless responses here.

I'm sorry you're going through this OP.

Harehedge · 20/10/2020 20:40

you have been unlucky

Back in March, a Welsh ICU consultant made a direct appeal to people in these age group, warning them that he was seeing a number of patients their age. His advice? Don't assume this won't happen to you. Don't assume the odds are impossibly against this happening to you. I have never seen this happen over a seasonal flu. Unless you have comparable experience, you're wasting our time with disingenuous words like 'unlucky'.

NeverTwerkNaked · 20/10/2020 20:41

I am so sorry Op, that sounds awful. I am sorry you have had an invasion of Covid deniers on the thread

MasksGlovesSoapScrubs · 20/10/2020 20:41

@user1471518104

Ok. So you are the 1 in a million who is not ok ?

There is the same odds with a tooth extraction

Oh you work in dental? Tell me all about it as I also work in dental and your figures are slightly off just a bit like your compassion. As you were.

Hope you have a speedy recovery OP and as the PP would liken it to a tooth extraction you should be okay in no time.... Grin

Harehedge · 20/10/2020 20:42

The pandemic only ends with a large % of the population being infected, with or without vaccine (and a lot already have). You're not going to avoid it.

That is simply not true. I can't begin to unpick the faulty science here. The pandemic doesn't 'end' necessarily at all without a vaccine. Stop peddling ridiculous nonsense.

HairyFloppins · 20/10/2020 20:43

Get well soon OP.

Harehedge · 20/10/2020 20:43

This thread is an excellent example of the way logic and compassion have been abandoned to suit personal agendas.

Clearly there are folk who can't even say 'get well soon' in their haste to tell everyone it's not going to also happen to them.

Disgusting.

Toohardtofindaproperusername · 20/10/2020 20:44

for everyone thinking its 1 in a million, please do feel free to come and volunteer in a hopstial.. or even get a job there, there are plenty of vacancies and the need is high for people who are so heroic about it, and think it's not 'all that'. i'm happy to advise ...

BlueBlancmange · 20/10/2020 20:45

I hope you make a full recovery, it sounds horrendous. As for some of the responses I see the denial and minimising is nowhere near stopping yet.

Toohardtofindaproperusername · 20/10/2020 20:45

OP.. sorry you got it and i hope you can rest and recover and be supported to do so... despite the tory govt zero hour contracts, lack of respect for basic human rights and decency, and support. i do hope you recover well

Kitcat122 · 20/10/2020 20:47

Sorry to hear this op. Hope you make a steady recovery. I too developed pneumonia after Covid. I am 7 months on and much better. Recovery is slow with ups and downs but you will get there xxx

Atalune · 20/10/2020 20:47

Hope you fully recover.

May I ask a personal question? Did the health professionals discover any underlying health conditions? And do you have any hereditary problems that are yet to manifest- so parents with heart disease, cancer etc?

Kitcat122 · 20/10/2020 20:48

I too am young and fit with no health conditions.
