Hi,
I just want to add my experience for info and to remind people to be careful.
I am not yet 40, healthy weight with no real health problems. I am now in my 3rd week of Covid.
The first week was all flu like. Awful headache, pains in limbs, sore, hoarse throat. No smell and taste funny. The cough started after a few days.

The second week became hell, temperature spiking, lying in puddles of sweat, all other symptoms too. Phoned doctor and given an antibiotic incase I developed a secondary bacterial infection.
I lay in bed hoping to get over it, as the doctor said, I'm young and healthy.
My husband, after another week made me phone the doctor who told me to go to a and e.
My immune system had crashed and I have pneumonia. I'm home on steroids and antibiotics but have been told that it will be a long recovery.
Please take it seriously. I should have had a mild case if rumour were to be believed.

Whatever the statistics everyone who has had Covid 19 is an individual.

I wish you well for your recovery OP

mac12 · 20/10/2020 21:19

Wishing you a speedy recovery OP Flowers Thank you for sharing your story. Rest up & be kind to yourself

Northernsoulgirl45 · 20/10/2020 21:20

Get well soon op.

Piwlyfbicsly · 20/10/2020 21:21

Hope you get better soon, OP. Sounds horrible. It does take time to recover from pneumonia, so take it easy.
How son did you get tested after the symptoms appeared? Do you have any idea whom did you could have gotten it from? Did your husband get it? Sorry for so many questions

Devlesko · 20/10/2020 21:21

I hope you get better soon OP, I remember that younger woman in icu when it first started, gasping for breath telling us how to stop smoking and not take risks.
Now, I don't believe everything I'm told, or see, but there was no reason for her to be a plant, at that time.
Some young people have been very poorly.

charmsofasimplelife · 20/10/2020 21:24

Hi OP! I left hospital in March, as did my 3 year old. She got over it super quick but it took me 5 weeks to feel alright.
I still get shortness of breath now so I have to have X-rays now and again.

That illness was pure hell. I was/am a healthy 25 year old that's never had anything wrong before.

Whenever I think about it, it brings me to tears. It was utter hell. It's really affected me mentally.

Seeing my young dd like that and then being separated was just awful. I cried the whole time I was in hospital.

I hope you get better soon, rest up as much as you can Thanks

RedMarauder · 20/10/2020 21:25

Wish you well.

Unfortunately the miserable Covid-deniers on your thread won't take heed of your advice forcing everyone to have Covid restrictions and lockdowns for longer.

TheVanguardSix · 20/10/2020 21:26

That's horrendous OP. I wish you a full, healthy recovery with no lasting effects. Flowers

Whattheduck · 20/10/2020 21:27

Hope you are soon feeling better op
I hadn’t known anyone personally who had it but over the last couple of weeks 2 friends have had it one being hospitalized and a family member. One of them has underlying health conditions but the other 2 are fit and healthy 1 being in their early 20’s the other in their late 40’s

everythingisginandroses · 20/10/2020 21:29

I am sorry to hear you have been through this, OP. I was sick back in March (44, no health issues, not overweight, not BAME). I felt very unwell for a couple of weeks and was scared I would get pneumonia (fortunately I did not). It has taken months to feel fully well again, but you will get there too, OP Flowers

Pixie2015 · 20/10/2020 21:30

Get well soon xxx

IamEarthymama · 20/10/2020 21:32

Oh OP, I am so sorry to hear this.
I had Covid19 in March/April.
It was awful but as others have said it was the length of the recovery period that made it so damaging.

I have had X-rays and scans. My lungs and bowels are damaged. I have GERD and IBS, and I am so tired all the time.

I wish you well and hope you can rest and mend x

RoseTintedAtuin · 20/10/2020 21:32

I’m sorry your so unwell OP and I hope you recover soon Flowers
Thank you for taking the time to post. The more real life experience people hear the better I think given all the differing information.

Sorehandsandfeet · 20/10/2020 21:34

Thank you everyone for all the well wishes. As for the others, well I can only give my own experience and it has not been a pleasant one, that is just my truth not an opinion.
For those asking, my husband contracted it from a workmate and brought it home. He was in bed Ill for around a week but is mostly well now. My 10 year old tested positive too and had a headache and sore tummy. My 4 year old had a cough. I am totally grateful they seem well now.

I have no clinical known risk factors for severe disease. Hence why I wanted to put it out there. Just to let people know not to be complacent. I should have went to hospital sooner but kept expecting to improve due to age and health. If it helps anyone to seek help sooner then it has been a good thing.

Also, nurses told me that many of the other patients in the ward were young. They said it was a different demographic to march and April.

Just for info. I'm not pushing an agenda. I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

'' turns into a lethal strep infection ''

Really is strep lethal?

oakleaffy · 20/10/2020 21:37

@Sorehandsandfeet
That must be very frightening for you.

Hope you recover as fast as possible. [Star]

porridgecake · 20/10/2020 21:37

A friend is a community nurse. She got Covid in April (no PPE provided by employer). She is still very unwell. She is 40.

Atalune · 20/10/2020 21:37

Thanks for the update.

Best wishes.

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 20/10/2020 21:37

Get well soon. It must have been scary needing to go into hospital.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 20/10/2020 21:37

Op awful.

I wonder if a pneumonia vaccine is worth having.

Loshad · 20/10/2020 21:41

Hugs OP
A teacher colleague contracted it in April ( probably from a key worker kid as far we can tell)
She is also early 40s, super slim, fit and no health conditions.
She has managed about 3 days in work since then, she is still very unwell.

Frazzled2207 · 20/10/2020 21:46

Get well soon it sounds like you've had a horrible time. I'm a similar age and that sounds worse than anything I've had in my lifetime.

Am pleased that your husband and children were not as ill and hope they can help and support you now as you get better, which you will.

Get well soon op. I had double pneumonia last Christmas and have never felt so poorly. I was told to not expect to feel well for about 6 weeks but within about 4 weeks I felt pretty normal.

I am mid forties, fit and well and yet I developed pneumonia seemingly from nowhere. People will develop it as a complication of Covid, just as it can be a complication following a nasty cold or flu. The vast majority of fit people will recover from pneumonia without any lasting effects.

Sending lots of get well wishes.
