Does anyone think we will get a break for Christmas?

It's been hinted that restrictions may ease for the holidays but does anyone actually believe it or do you think it's just a way to try and get people to stick down to the rules?

I live in Lancashire, in tier 3 and it seems absolutely nobody is paying attention to the rules! (Like to point out that me and my family are 🙈).

At the risk of sounding like a doom monger, no, I don't think so.

Ecosse · 19/10/2020 13:33

People will not go without seeing their families at Christmas regardless of what the rules are.

Jrobhatch29 · 19/10/2020 13:41

@Ecosse

People will not go without seeing their families at Christmas regardless of what the rules are.

No. I think people will ignore the restrictions whatever they are at that time.

You can't impose restrictions and then suspend them because of a holiday. Undermines the whole shit show even more.

Popcornriver · 19/10/2020 13:54

I don't think so. I think the situation will be worse by then. Then again who will actually comply with not meeting family over Christmas? Stay in an office all day, kids in a classroom all day and then a few days later you're not permitted to spend a day with family?

WankPuffins · 19/10/2020 14:13

I doubt many people would take any notice.

Racoonworld · 19/10/2020 14:15

No ones going to comply at Christmas anyway.

As more people are hospitalised, more people dying then people will become scared and not want to mix, whether there is a break or not.
My parents in tier 2 have already come to terms with not seeing myself (tier 1)and their grandchildren at christmas. Unless miraculously the numbers go down.

Rainbowllama4 · 19/10/2020 14:34

I can’t see the restrictions easing before next spring and I don’t think that many will comply with the rules over Christmas which won’t help case numbers or hospital admissions a couple of weeks later. I’ve already arranged our Christmas plans, hoping we will still be in teir 1 but it’s unlikely.

LavaCake · 19/10/2020 15:10

I think there will be. Mostly because the government will know that people won’t obey rules which require them to avoid their family at Christmas, so the government would rather allow a controlled hiatus of the rules to ensure that 1) they get the credit for a popular decision and 2) they don’t appear to be completely out of control and unable to maintain civil order.

FourTeaFallOut · 19/10/2020 15:18

I think the ship will have sailed on your second point long before Christmas LavaCake.

Bluemooninmyeyes1 · 19/10/2020 15:27

I don’t care, I will be seeing my family. And I can guarantee you that all the people in government imposing these restrictions will be seeing their families too.

ultimatebadass · 19/10/2020 15:30

well we are not seeing any family this year, not doing Christmas. We are in tier 3

PollyRoulson · 19/10/2020 15:30

Saddo here but I will be complying with the rules and will not see my family at Christmas including my Mother in a Nursing home.

Tyranttoddler · 19/10/2020 15:37

My parents live on the next street and they have my daughter once a week for childcare. By the time it gets to Christmas I will be done with not going inside their house 🤣 Also I'm in Lancashire but everyone I know is adhering to the restrictions.

SisyphusDad · 19/10/2020 15:41

I understand that the virus has booked the two weeks between Saturday 19th December and Sunday 3rd January off.

AntiHop · 19/10/2020 15:44

Me and my family will be complying with restrictions. I'm in tier 2 so we can't go and stay with family. My 6 year old will be broken hearted. I'm not willing to break turn rules and put other people at risk. If they were closer, we'd go there for a day trip and meet them outside (there would only be 5 of us) but it's too much driving for one day.

FourTeaFallOut · 19/10/2020 15:44

I bet the flu and the norovirus are pissed that the new worker bagged all the Christmas leave.

ilovesooty · 19/10/2020 15:45

It would be ridiculous to suspend restrictions for Christmas. The risk of mixing remains the same.

I've given up on any idea of most people giving a stuff about social responsibility though.

PhilCornwall1 · 19/10/2020 15:46

People will have a break from this crap at Christmas, whether Johnson says it's happening or not.

Lamentations · 19/10/2020 15:46

People will see their families anyway. It might be sensible to soften the restrictions for 3 days to gain some compliance and then people will generally be back in their bubbles for at least a week before school and work starts.

rainystorm · 19/10/2020 15:48

This just makes me so sad. My hospital is overrun with covid and there's no room left already for anything else. I'm so tired of dealing with this at work and I just don't know why we're bothering anymore - no one wants to be saved by the NHS anymore anyway.

janetmendoza · 19/10/2020 15:48

No we won't. What would be the point? Large family Christmases almost always include the vulnerable, grandad, great aunt etc. No government is going to give us permission to put those guys at risk.

janetmendoza · 19/10/2020 15:50

So sorry rainstorm. You can bet they will want the nhs when they are sick tho.
