Anyone still not heard of anyone getting covid?

I live in an area of high infections but I haven't heard of anyone getting the virus. I have spoken to people with many more contacts than me a woman who works in a local shop, a sandwich shop worker and a bar worker. Nobody knows anyone who has had covid. I asked family on the phone who live outside my local area each with different points of contact through work or other portals and nothing!

I am not a conspiricy theorist or anti regulation but this just seems a bit odd to me. I can only assume that the virus is spreading in very limited locations as opposed to over a whole region at least in my part of the UK.

I don’t personally know anyone who has had it, but a friend of my FIL died from it back in April.

My parents are currently in a bad place fighting COVID, I mentioned it in a team “Wellbeing meeting” at work last week... I received a carefully worded told off from my boss and her boss for “bringing down” the mood of the meeting*

Wow, your boss does not sound very nice! I don't think that that's very common.

beautifulmonument · 25/10/2020 08:42

As far as I know, I don't know anyone who's had it or who knows anyone who's had it

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/10/2020 09:22

High cases area here we expect local lockdowns from next week.
I've been working out of home the whole time as have my collegues, several family members are in care homes.

I have heard from a work mate that her daughter has a nursery friend who was in contact with a child that tested positive, without actually being ill.
And a construction squad couldn't start for a week bc. they had to isolate bc. one of the team was positive.
That's it.

JamminDoughnuts · 25/10/2020 09:23

a relative of a colleague,that is all

Happyspud · 25/10/2020 09:24

I'm in NI and only knew one in the first lockdown. I know (of) LOADS this time.

HelloMissus · 25/10/2020 09:25

If you have kids at university and they have lots of mates at uni, you’ll know of many positive cases.

So it might be a demographic thing?

tobermoryisthebestwomble · 25/10/2020 09:38

I know many cases from asymptomatic to sadly deceased across age groups from teens to 80s and different ethnicities and previous health/comorbidities.

There have been 17 cases (confirmed) in my DD's school ( one she knows well). My uncle's father died of it in May. I work in a hospital (non clinical). Two of my doctors are off with it currently. One is asymptomatic and the other is unwell in hospital. One of my team has it at the moment- her daughter works on the Covid ward. One of my admin team has just returned after weeks of post viral syndrome.

During the first wave around 30% of my medical team had the virus. The antibody test flagged up a dozen of the team who had antibodies but no/very mild symptoms. I tested negative for antibodies but was very poorly before Christmas with what could have been covid or another virus.

I am in a tier 2 area, and recognise that working in healthcare is increased risk so therefore my examples wont be representative of the general population.

Sonnenscheins · 25/10/2020 09:43

Most Uni kids have had it, mostly asymptomatic for them.

JamminDoughnuts · 25/10/2020 09:43

uni particularly first years, it is the new freshers flu
dd has known of friends of friends

Sonnenscheins · 25/10/2020 09:45

Yes, as common as freshers flu, but much less symptomatic for the majority.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 25/10/2020 09:46

My neighbour had it in March, I don’t know of anyone since.

ineedaholidaynow · 25/10/2020 09:48

Until last week I didn't know anyone who had had it. This week 3 people I know who all live locally have it, none of them are linked to each other. We are in a low rate area but rate is gradually increasing.

DinkyDaisy · 25/10/2020 09:52

Cases in primary and secondary here. Lots of isolation due to school contacts. Now know people and it is now impacting on our family.

Oblomov20 · 25/10/2020 10:21

Nope. No one. In Surrey and don't know anyone who knows anyone who has had it either.

froggygoneonakillingspree · 25/10/2020 12:00

I don't, but considering how (relatively) small most people's social circles and all the other issues like secrecy and problems with testing I really don't think it means much.

I mean, I've never known anyone who's ever had cancer, doesn't mean cancer doesn't exist.

JennyMcLenny · 25/10/2020 13:43

Hadn't heard of anyone until yesterday, woman I know in her late 30s has been taken into hospital, outbreak at her work and several colleagues infected. I was beginning to think it was strange I didn't know anyone (admittedly I don't have large circle)

Southwest12 · 25/10/2020 13:57

Two people at work had family members in ITU with it, one was early 20s with no underlying medical conditions. Both survived but at one point the young person wasn't expected to survive the night.

Currently know of four people with it.

sunshineandshowers21 · 25/10/2020 14:28

it’s spread through our family like wildfire. my great grandad caught it whilst in hospital and was discharged with it, and now half the family have it. i’ve had it a little over a week and i wouldn’t wish it on anyone. my entire body hurts, i’m burning hot yet shaking, i feel constantly sick and dizzy, i’m exhausted, i can barely catch my breath in between coughing up a lung. my boyfriend also has it, as does our 13 year old. luckily our younger children seem to have been spared.

loulouljh · 25/10/2020 15:01

I don't know anyone ...in the South..

Notcoolmum · 26/10/2020 13:08

I know of 16 confirmed cases now. I'm in Greater Manchester Although a few cases are friends outside the area.

yeOldeTrout · 26/10/2020 14:49

I don't know anyone in UK.
DC don't say they know anyone in UK. That includes Uni age DC.
DH slightly knows an event volunteer who had it months ago.
Eastern England.

dolphinpose · 26/10/2020 14:55

DS, first year at uni, is now in isolation because someone in his residence tested positive. At the beginning of March DC had two friends who tested positive. Those are the only people I know. Three teenagers.

tearstainedbakes · 26/10/2020 15:00

I was quietly offended last week when someone at work commented in response to a colleagues uncle being diagnosed 'ooh it's getting closer isn't it'. The reason I was offended is that I've had it months ago and I'm still living with the fallout. It literally couldn't be any closer for me and this woman who claims that I'm like her best friend just totally forgot / ignored it.

I've known so many people with it. In the last few days, probably at least 6. Only three of them are actually connected to each other, the rest are living miles away from each other.
