Anyone still not heard of anyone getting covid?

I live in an area of high infections but I haven't heard of anyone getting the virus. I have spoken to people with many more contacts than me a woman who works in a local shop, a sandwich shop worker and a bar worker. Nobody knows anyone who has had covid. I asked family on the phone who live outside my local area each with different points of contact through work or other portals and nothing!

I am not a conspiricy theorist or anti regulation but this just seems a bit odd to me. I can only assume that the virus is spreading in very limited locations as opposed to over a whole region at least in my part of the UK.

There are loads of people that I know but might not see for weeks or even months, and when I do see them I don't get a rundown of every illness they've had (and for most, it's not that serious).

Good point. Lots of my friends and acquaintances may well have had it, but I've not asked specifically.

Maybe I've had it but don't know?

Plussizejumpsuit · 24/10/2020 22:35

So what it's not real cos you don't know anyone? What do you mean by odd?

wowfudge · 24/10/2020 22:42

I don't know anyone who's died of flu, but it happens that much I do know.

Unsure33 · 24/10/2020 22:43

I read a lot about people who think not having lockdown would be ok . Think of this one of our suppliers in Europe has 50 cases in their factory so have half their staff off sick or isolating . So they are being fined for not completing contracts an close to losing everything. They are opening exhibitions centres in this country to take excess patients as their hospitals can’t cope .

There is no easy solution

We have lost 4 family members plus I now know personally of 4 other people who have contracted it .

friendlycat · 24/10/2020 22:45

Yes. Family member. Fit female 31 year old. No underlying conditions. Hospitalised twice. Now on steroids for damage to the lungs but recovering. Has two young children.

sleepwouldbenice · 24/10/2020 23:46

About 15to 20 people. All contacts of contacts eg work colleagues dad

In tier 3 area but locally our levels are more like tier 2

Two relatable deaths

It’s crap

dollychopss · 25/10/2020 00:13

1 death with covid rather than from
Loads of people had it at work around March

3 cases at my sons scholl and 1 at my sons nursery

Taking my 2 year old for a test tomorrow as a continuous cough

Lupinhere37 · 25/10/2020 00:32

I didn’t know anyone until last week, when my dc’s sixth form bubble burst. (Low rate of infection area) Now I’m losing count of the amount of pupils and staff we know who are infected. Think it currently stands at 22 and has spread outside of the sixth form bubble.

DodgeRainClouds · 25/10/2020 00:35

I know 8 people who have tested positive including myself. It’s probably the jobs we are in though...nhs and education

Northernsoulgirl45 · 25/10/2020 00:37

I only knew of one friend of a friend. She is a teacher and was very ill I believe.
Two friends kids had it too but fairly mildly.
@dollychopss how ill was the person who died with COVID rather than of please?

Sallydimebar · 25/10/2020 01:26

Brother and sister in law + nephews all tested positive this week .
4 people from brothers office,
6 confirmed cases in daughters year 10 bubble
Mums friend who’s dinner lady,
Daughters friends ,mum and dad,
Sister in laws friend who’s in intensive care with it .
Dad from daughters netball team.
I heard From a few people with slight symptoms think it’s just a cold not bothering with a test as can’t afford to be of work. Brother only had slight cough and bit of headache .
I knew no one who had it March /April .

Sallydimebar · 25/10/2020 01:33

Also agree with PP people I know who have had it are not putting it out on social media and all have active accounts . People on my street at the other end could easily of had it and I wouldn’t know .

HollysBush · 25/10/2020 01:36

Nope. Me, my husband, 3 work colleagues and my cousin all had it.

TaxTheRatFarms · 25/10/2020 01:40

@goldrabbit22

No,

Plus it depends what' meant by 'getting covid'

Does it mean just testing positive?

The inventor of the test, Kary Mullis, made it clear that the PCR test is not a suitable test for virus detection.

Many false positives arise from the test.

Do I know anyone who has been sick or died from covid? No

The evidence of my own eyes and experience does not tally with the information I'm seeing in the media.

This is some wild misinformation.

Where’s the evidence that Kary Mullis said the PCR test isn’t suitable for virus detection? In fact, here’s evidence that he didn’t.

fullfact.org/online/pcr-test-mullis/

While false positives are possible, it’s nowhere near “many”. Unless Dominic Raab is your news source Grin

The test can certainly pick up fragments of the virus even when the carrier is no longer infectious - maybe that’s what you’ve got it confused with? But even then, the carrier would have had the virus and been positive previous to that test.

Not even touching on “I haven’t seen it with my own eyes so it can’t be real,” mindset. Fabulous Grin

TaxTheRatFarms · 25/10/2020 01:46

Ds1 had it back in March and was really ill with it.

Then I didn’t know of any cases until this month when ds2’s friend‘s dad tested positive, 2 pupils at my school (I only know teach one of them but they are all friends with the other case too), and two staff at my next door neighbour’s workplace. And anecdotally a student at Ds1’s school. Obviously I don’t know them personally but it was confirmed by the school.

And a bit further afield, students in neighbouring secondary schools (1 in one school, 2 in the other) tested positive, again confirmed by the schools.

We’re in a tier 1 area.

Bouledeneige · 25/10/2020 01:53

I think my DD and I had it in April/May. My colleague too.

My DD and DS know tons and tons of people who have had it as they are at university being forced to get it.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 25/10/2020 01:20

I only know two people who tested positive for it.
But, like several PP’s. I know people who got something nasty back in March but didn’t get tested as we didn’t know what it was then.

namechangefail2020 · 25/10/2020 04:18

I know too many now. Only one serious tho, all positive cases and very mild. Even two vulnerable only had mild cases

custardbear · 25/10/2020 04:54

I know of 11 people, though most of those are doctors

Dumpypumpy · 25/10/2020 05:06

7 members of my extended family currently ill with it. Tier 3

Dreamylemon · 25/10/2020 05:47

HCP here.

I know probably 7 people back in March who had covid symptoms which spread to thier families. They weren't tested but I'm sure they had it from symptoms reported.

20% of out team in NHS hospital had antibodies on testing.

Imhearing way more positive cases now. My child's nursery has shut after 2 positive cases and work starting to get positive cases again. Feels like it's spreading faster.

I work in a tier 3 area.

mostlydrinkstea · 25/10/2020 06:34

Tier 2. I know lots of people who have had it. Two have long covid and it was very grim for months. I checked my local council ward for death rates and there was only one. I do know who that was as I did the funeral. Two deaths in the parish were probably covid but not recorded as such. I've done three times as many funerals this year than last and we are still in October.

On the plus side two of my very elderly parishioners had it and despite a stay in hospital for 9 weeks and numerous underlying conditions, they both recovered well.

lookingatthings · 25/10/2020 07:12

High risk area and up until two months ago only new one person, back in London, who had it in March and is dealing with Long Covid. Then two months ago shit seemed to hit the fan in my circle and I now know 15pp who have tested positive, two of which ( older) died. It's shaken us to say the least.

cravingthelook · 25/10/2020 07:19

My work have stated 3 people, all home workers all independent of each other and had no interaction with other colleagues have tested positive. That's out of approx 500 and out with the area I live in.

My sister who lives in a different city. There was a handful of positive cases transmitted between her colleagues.

The number of cases is high where I live but I don't know anyone directly
