This is it for the foreseeable future

It just struck me today that this is how life is going to be for the foreseeable future - masks everywhere so shopping is no fun, no theatres, no holidays, no parties, no proper get-togethers. It is utterly depressing. Like everyone else, I so yearn for my old life back and I bitterly regret taking it all for granted in the past. It's quite true that 'you never know what you've got till it's gone'.

Things won't stay the same because cases will either rise or fall. If they continue to rise that in itself with influence public behaviour. So far it doesn't seem that the measures in place are controlling the rise in cases so things will be changing one way or another.

kittensarecute · 19/10/2020 12:46

@toxtethOgradyUSA

I think this is it for the next few years at least. I would also be willing to wager a large bet that we won't see a vaccine rolled out in 2021, as some 'issues' arise to prevent its implementation.
For fuck's sake, stop with the scaremongering!
BlueBlancmange · 19/10/2020 12:50

@cyclingmad

I'm referring to the government and yes you are being manipulated. Why say its 6 months to March for restrictions then move the goalposts to April then July and before it breaks people's mental health they suddenly throw a tidbit of news showing vaccine production and talk of December.

Like they did when they said September 🙄 abit of hope to make people think its only a few months....then once year later look where we are.

I mean how you go from saying end of March 21 to end of July 21 based on what exactly?

Meanwhile they keep telling us there will be thousands of deaths in November and jacking up the fear whilst they sit in their commons bar breaking the rules they are imposing and that would be MPs across all parties.

Ok can you point me to the Youtube video where I can research this further?
emilybrontescorsett · 19/10/2020 12:55

I think we will be in this position until at least the end of the next academic year so until August. I suspect it may even last longer than that.
I don’t mind social distancing or wearing a mask, the thing I miss is seeing my parents and children. Now I can’t have them in my home. I know winter will be much harder for me. I like the sunshine and I like to be out when it’s warm. During early lockdown I could sit in the garden with my family, now it’s getting colder I won’t enjoy it at all.

ilovesooty · 19/10/2020 13:06

Well Wales is going into a two week lockdown from Friday.

jan9876 · 19/10/2020 15:19

Sorry to those that are struggling so much. It is really hard isn't it. Yes this has helped me evaluate my priorities, and I realise that I DO need to get away to the sun. I do not cope well with winter. I am saving my money for a much needed few days in the sun when the time is right - just a budget holiday, but I need the warmer climate to boost my mood. I realised that I'm not content in the house, I need to be out and about and stimulating activities to do. I need my friends and family and can't do life on my own. I'm really struggling already and it's only October.

cyclingmad · 19/10/2020 16:18

@blueblancmange

What are you on about? Its in the press and briefings and statements made for everyone to see it. There isn't a video showing you this.

katy1213 · 19/10/2020 16:29

Cinemas are open - so are a few theatres, I'm going this week and next - I'm not interested in pubs but they're there if you want them. The people who are moaning there's nothing to do are the ones who never do anything, anyway.

cyclingmad · 19/10/2020 19:46

Oh look now already we have scientists saying vaccine won't be ready until spring 2021...I'm mean lol you literally can see how they just manipulatr you doing now. Only this weekend it was December and look at this production line...now the editable number of people who will say spring 2021, yeah like you can believe anything they say now its unbelievable 🙄

So yes when I first said this is your new normal it really is. Come Spring 2021 and it'll be another deadline and another false hope

You need to shut up. Seriously. Stop scaremongering.
Dinosauratemydaffodils · 19/10/2020 20:39

I'm spring cleaning my life so dh won't have to. I'm struggling to keep going because everything is so miserable and pointless. I hate masks (my rapist suffocated me into submission) and its "wonderful" when I get flashbacks. I'm not sleeping. There is zero mental health support even though I'm under the Adult Mental Health team.

We've just been away for the weekend. It wasn't particularly enjoyable. Too many rules, queues and a lack of spontaneity.

Inkpaperstars · 19/10/2020 21:01

cycling if you listen to reputable experts and new sources the goalposts/timelines haven't moved that much. If you listen to certain people and certain politicians/news outlets they will always lie and then you will be disappointed. You have to discriminate more. Obviously things will change and there will be times when things move faster or slower than expected and when new issues come to light....that is the process of scientific investigation and development. But in general it sounds like you are not being discriminating with your sources and that may be leading to your feeling manipulated.

samandpoppysmummy · 19/10/2020 21:06

Why no holidays? I'm going to Barbados with my DC on Wednesday for 10 days. There's no reason not to go on holiday as long as you follow the rules for wherever you're going.

whatswithtodaytoday · 19/10/2020 21:07

@cyclingmad Some scientists hope it will be Christmas for the most vulnerable. Some think spring is more likely. There's really only a few weeks in it, isn't there? No-one knows exactly what will happen, but they're taking educated guesses. They can't agree because it's impossible to know for sure.

No-one reputable ever said a vaccine would be ready by September. I seem to recall that was the earliest stage 3 results were expected, but that's been delayed for various reasons, as often happens in drug trials. Still, we are expecting results fairly soon.

Unless you live in Wales, where we’re back in full lockdown, partly due to people like you having foreign holidays.

dollychopss · 19/10/2020 21:17

@inchyra you sound a bit of an idiot saying things like that

Have you every suffered mental health

Smallsteps88 · 19/10/2020 21:20

@DDIJ

It has served to make me see what a small life I lead as nothing at all has changed for me Blush
Me too! Blush except I wear less make up as I am wearing a mask when out and about! Grin
Smallsteps88 · 19/10/2020 21:31

@kittensarecute you need to have the common sense to step away from threads that are upsetting you rather than shouting at the people who are having discussions on the thread.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 19/10/2020 21:41

I'd be just as happy to bet that there will be at least one vaccine in 2021 Smile Maybe not in America though, given who's in charge.

MagicSummer · 20/10/2020 09:15

@Samandpoppysmummy -- because I don't want to be in a metal tube for 9 hours with hundreds of strangers, nor do I want to wear a mask for 9 hours and have to put my hand up to ask to go to the loo. I also want proper food on a flight that long and a G&T to get me on the plane in the first place!

And still you haven't explained to us the purpose of this manipulation you are accusing the government of - could you please enlighten us? Why are they doing this?
Sarahsah4r4 · 21/10/2020 00:13

I think that if we could develop a quick accurate and cheap saliva (or similar)test that might be a bit of a game changer?
