This is it for the foreseeable future

It just struck me today that this is how life is going to be for the foreseeable future - masks everywhere so shopping is no fun, no theatres, no holidays, no parties, no proper get-togethers. It is utterly depressing. Like everyone else, I so yearn for my old life back and I bitterly regret taking it all for granted in the past. It's quite true that 'you never know what you've got till it's gone'.

They seems to be confusing rules with guidelines🤔
I think things will gradually improve as we start to find solutions but it will be a bumpy process, probably quite a lot of two steps forward one step back etc😕

@cyclingmad

Its kind odd how suddenly there is a vaccine in production and hopes of it from December. This is exactly what they did around April/ May saying that its not forever and it looks promising for a vaccine in September.

Realising that without hope people are getting sick and tired of it all so offer some hope.

December will come to pass and no vaccine will be ready

Don't you realise how your being manipulated

The vaccine started being produced at risk months ago from what I understand. Oxford said September would be the very earliest a vaccine might possibly be ready. At no point was it presented as anywhere near a given as far as I am aware. And December would not really be far off it in the scheme of things.
GirlCrush · 19/10/2020 00:06

How can it be fully tested for any side effects? How will they know?

inuet · 19/10/2020 00:19

I often think threads like this are about getting black and negative thoughts out. They are incredibly harmful to read.

GirlCrush · 19/10/2020 00:21

@inuet

It’s the ‘coronavirus’ section... not going to be all rainbows and sunshine is it? And then there’s the thread title....another clue

megletthesecond · 19/10/2020 00:24

I never really had social events (lone parent). A year or so of this isn't the end of the world. Bit boring but there's always walks.

MsJaneAusten · 19/10/2020 00:24

Unless you’re already clinically depressed, your mental health isn’t going to suffer just because you’re wearing some fabric on your face.

It’s not just wearing fabric on our face though, is it? It’s not seeing family or friends, not being able to hug, not making plans; it’s the not knowing.

Legoandloldolls · 19/10/2020 00:33

It sucks but you have to find a way to cope. No socialising, parties or going out means I have reorganised my daughters wardrobe because her party stuff wont fit next year.

No trying on clothes means less buying ( but I did buy a practical rain coat today )

I'm trying to adopt a "do I need this?" Approach to shopping so hopefully that is a good habit I can keep.

The rest? I dont know. I'm trying to brain down and cut out the noise. Dont think too hard, dont plan to much, dont look to far ahead. It's hard. I too by spring things will be better but I think before then, it's going to get painful.

Nobody is being manipulated

Even if a vaccine was rushed through , majority of spoke realise it will just cause more issues

I don’t know anyone who has any faith whatsoever in a vaccine[/quote]
I have faith in the vaccine. I’d have it tomorrow.

Inkpaperstars · 19/10/2020 05:30

I am reassured that, at least in most democratic countries, there is huge scientific oversight on vaccines and the moment one is approved that will be even more the case. There are many specialists who will not just stand by and be muted if they think that a vaccine has been released when it should not be.

3littlewords · 19/10/2020 05:50

I dont know anyone who has any faith whatsoever in a vaccine

Unless you are a front line worker, over 50 or ECV then it won't matter to you anyway because you wouldn't be at the top of the list to receive such vaccine

JamminDoughnuts · 19/10/2020 05:58

dont watch the news if it is affecting you so badly

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 19/10/2020 06:17

I am in the arts - I am in despair at what is happening. It is so sad.

I also loathe masks. Not so much wearing them - but not seeing faces. Human interaction has largely gone. I used to wonder who women who have to cover their faces feel. I’m even more against it now. You are utterly removed from normal engagement.

But there are some benefits. I like seeing my old dog more. We have had more family time. You realise what you have taken for granted.

Useruseruserusee · 19/10/2020 06:19

One day at a time, that’s what I am doing until this winter is over at least. This will all pass in the end.

Inkpaperstars · 19/10/2020 06:38

I am the opposite, struggle wearing one but not seeing faces doesn't bother me at all, in fact I barely notice any difference there because I can still see the eyes.

Inkpaperstars · 19/10/2020 06:39

Btw like the username @Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow

SnuggyBuggy · 19/10/2020 07:01

The lack of an end date doesn't help. I'm sick of anxiously checking the weather forecast to see if I might be able to go to the park so my toddler can burn off some energy and I can have some meaningful human contact or if we are going to be trapped in the house.

hopsalong · 19/10/2020 07:29

I'm hopeful (though wouldn't bet on it) that things will become much more normal in the spring due to some combination of a partial vaccine, lack of compliance, and dropping case numbers due to warmer weather.

It might also be the last point at which most of the 'old life' will be recuperable. My best friend is an actress. She's sitting out the winter on savings but is planning to retrain as a teacher next academic year if theatres haven't reopened. My local, my favourite locally owned cafe (SOB), even my small gym are all up against the wall now, desperately hoping to survive to the spring.

cyclingmad · 19/10/2020 07:29

I'm referring to the government and yes you are being manipulated. Why say its 6 months to March for restrictions then move the goalposts to April then July and before it breaks people's mental health they suddenly throw a tidbit of news showing vaccine production and talk of December.

Like they did when they said September 🙄 abit of hope to make people think its only a few months....then once year later look where we are.

I mean how you go from saying end of March 21 to end of July 21 based on what exactly?

Meanwhile they keep telling us there will be thousands of deaths in November and jacking up the fear whilst they sit in their commons bar breaking the rules they are imposing and that would be MPs across all parties.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 19/10/2020 08:11

I'm referring to the government and yes you are being manipulated

Could you please explain for what purpose the government are manipulating us?

CrappleUmble · 19/10/2020 09:48

This is what worries me. The government won't just let people decide they don't want to comply. It would make them look weak. So I think they will just keep tightening things, enforcing fines, maybe prison for repeat offenders .. I don't know, but honestly, how people are behaving at the moment scares me about what might have to be done next.

They don't have the resources to enforce regulations on millions of people who don't want to comply. It would take much more in the way of police, armed forces and security apparatus than we have. The reality is that if people want to break the rules in small and unobtrusive ways, like 8 in a house in an area where you're allowed 6, visiting your mum when you're not meant to etc, they would have to be exceptionally unlucky to be caught. The government know this and so do a great many of the population, which is why I reckon they'll go the other way.

TheClaws · 19/10/2020 11:17

@Waxonwaxoff0

I don't think it will. Compliance is already on the wane. People won't do this for the foreseeable.

That will help a great deal, won't it? Confused

toxtethOgradyUSA · 19/10/2020 11:35

I think this is it for the next few years at least.
I would also be willing to wager a large bet that we won't see a vaccine rolled out in 2021, as some 'issues' arise to prevent its implementation.

floralheadband · 19/10/2020 11:42

This is it until april or may next year, it will probably get worse before it gets better. After that who knows.
