Urgent - can two households still mix in restaurants?

I just read that London is going into tier two lockdown from midnight tomorrow, which means no households mixing indoors.

My question is, can two households still mix in a restaurant or pub? Just asking because my brother and SIL were due to come to my house for lunch on Saturday with my nephew, which is no longer allowed. Could we book a restaurant instead?

It's a bit silly if we can as presumably it puts us all at more risk, but if it's a way around the rules then we will do it!

queen they simply ask to cover their arses.
Like pubs checking ID.
After that it’s on the customers.

It’s pretty clear

@Athrawes

To those who asked "will the virus magically disappear". Yes it will. If you stop meeting up, touching, being in each others faces, just popping down the shops, meeting in pubs, letting people into the country, going on holiday to Spain and bringing back the virus.

Yes it will disappear.

..it won't though. Unless on a (much longer than 2 week) lockdown, they actually meant everything shutting down, which is impossible, unless people are willing to sit in the dark, with or water or internet, no police for when burglaries/looting starts, no healthcare staff..including carers etc (allowing any mixing at all would keep it spreading, even small amounts of contact, so if you are looking for total eradication, that would have to be it).

Oh, also, every country around the world realistically would have to do the exact same thing, at the exact same time, and ontop of this there would have to be 100% compliance in every country too. Even then I don't think it would 'disappear' as it can take months to go round a larger household! So total lockdown, with nothing at all running, for at least a few months, and every country doing te same at the same time. Unlikely to say the least really. After all of this, it takes only one person who is still positive, to set it all off again.

Finally, to make sure it was not all pointless ,every person in every country would need to be tested before lockdwn could ease. And that in itself could cause issues as people would have to be mixing to get the test in the first place..

Even doing all of the above, I am unsure if it would effective kill the virus off completely. Don't think it works that way, but willing to defer to someone who works in the field, or even knows much about viruses?

Its a nice idea. But sadly its fantasy.

The idea that the police will respond to reports of households mixing in a restaurant makes me smile.
You can’t get them to come to a bloody rave!!!

Well Manchester (I think it was) police did at one stage go to break up a family birthday party as there was an extra person there who wasn't 'allowed to be'. But residents from the same area were complaining that a 200 or so people party was totally ignored at the same time. Possiby as that would be harder work than slapping a fine on Doris or Bernie ad the rest of the household. So it seems more likely they will spend time going to check on if there are two gradparents there instead of one and stuff, instead of actually doing something about much larger problems!

Ontop of this, round here its actually something the police say themselves, that they simply do not have time to investigate car thefts and burglaries! Meanwhile, they can breakup family parties, and arrest and question someone for writing a twitter post that someone got upset by. Its a joke. I know its not the fault of the police, they do as they are told and are massively understaffed/underfunded to begin with, but the situation is just shit.

The above post, I guess all countries would not have to do the same, and if eradication would work, it would only be us going through 4 months or whatever of no water, internet, doctors etc. But after this, we would need to completely shut the borders and leave it that way indefinitely (which would include travelling for work and such, which wouldn't go down well at all!). Until every other country managed to 'eradicate' too. Or until vaccine, if it comes (which I think it will, just will take a while and might not be too effective..lets hope not though)

I would vote for a short lockdown in a heartbeat if I thought it would actally 'stop the virus' like many hopefuls seem to think it will. But its quite clear it would not. Could push numbers back shortterm, but then, the question is not this one circuit breaker lockdown, but would people agree to one every couple of months or so. Lockdown fucks the economy and lives. Not locking down can fuck the economy and costs lives. Rock meet hard place Sad
