Urgent - can two households still mix in restaurants?

buttery81 · 15/10/2020 10:10

I just read that London is going into tier two lockdown from midnight tomorrow, which means no households mixing indoors.

My question is, can two households still mix in a restaurant or pub? Just asking because my brother and SIL were due to come to my house for lunch on Saturday with my nephew, which is no longer allowed. Could we book a restaurant instead?

It's a bit silly if we can as presumably it puts us all at more risk, but if it's a way around the rules then we will do it!

People agree with the restrictions more when they only affect others
Let’s just treat the whole of the country the same it would be much simpler

AllieCat26 · 15/10/2020 12:02

I see! The stats I saw were from a few weeks ago when they were saying 5%. I’m still absolutely disgusted that people are so expecting of this sheer ineptitude, rather than getting furious with the government and asking them what the hell have they been doing. All they have done is lie through their teeth. They’ve done insurmountable damage to our economy, our health and our lives through their sheer incompetence!

I totally hear you, I am getting angrier every day too Brew

I work for a local council. We are pulling in staff to start checking compliance in pubs etc. We need to start doing what we are told and not trying to avoid the rule/guidelines.

Africa2go · 15/10/2020 12:11

@Harrysmummy246 Tier 2 may have only started in the last couple of days but it is almost the same as "local lockdown" that many areas have been in for weeks (if not months). So when a pp says she's been in Tier 2 for a while, I'm assuming its an area that automatically went from "local lockdown" to Tier 2.

Jaxhog · 15/10/2020 12:11

If you look for ways to flout the law or assume that it won't be enforced, it will be your fault when we go into a national lockdown.

MessAllOver · 15/10/2020 12:11

We need to start doing what we are told and not trying to avoid the rule/guidelines

It would be easier for the government to preach to the rest of us about this if they had fired Dominic Cummings. Sorry, but the message that many will have taken from that affair is that it's fine for us all to 'interpret' the rules how we wish. And from the sequel that it's fine to build second homes without planning permission and then fail to pay council tax on them.

Rules are for idiots, it seems.

Ted27 · 15/10/2020 12:13

@Coffeeandbeans

I live miles away from my family and have no plans to visit a pub/restaurant any time soon, but I am interested in how this will be enforced
Say if you were to check the ids of two adjacent tables and they have two different addresses, how will you know if they are related households rather than two random groups of people

QueenofmyPrinces · 15/10/2020 12:17

Speak for yourself! Many people are following guidance.

As were my friends. I'm not sure they were if they interacted i.e. spoke with the neighbouring table, but I also am not sure how much I care to continue arguing

There are rules saying we can’t talk to people at the next table?

PigletJohn · 15/10/2020 12:17

It's this, for "medium" tier
www.gov.uk/guidance/local-covid-alert-level-medium

Visiting other venues, including shops, restaurants, pubs and places of worship

Venues following COVID-secure guidance can host more people in total, but no one must mix indoors in groups larger than 6, unless you all live together, or are in the same support bubble. This includes in:

pubs and restaurants
shops
leisure and entertainment venues
places of worship

At least one person in your group should give their contact details to the venue or check in using the official NHS COVID-19 app so NHS Test and Trace can contact you if needed.

MrsJBaptiste · 15/10/2020 12:26

@Harrysmummy246 Well yes, officially Tier 2 started yesterday but we’ve been in a local lockdown for a couple of weeks which has had the same rules as Tier 2 - no mixing with other households, no groups of 6 indoors, etc.

DespairingHomeowner · 15/10/2020 12:27

I’m in London, & planning a pub lunch over the weekend (outside)

A blanket helps... I’m hoping this will motivate a lot of pubs to keep beer garden open/create some shelter/get heating (very sorry environment - hopefully less flying will offset)

Live alone, have WFH for 6 months solid, seeing no one in person from mid March to end May drove me a bit mental (no support bubbles back then but I am 100000% planning to stick to it as it’s in place because it’s needed. Will meet friends for a walk at weekend if that’s allowed

Pisses me off when people who have Partner/ family living with them break rules TBH: being alone is so mentally difficult.

Large no of single friends, we are not looking forward to months in solitary at home, but no one planning to not stick to it

clareykb · 15/10/2020 12:28

Round here where we have had this for a few weeks the venues are pretty strict when you book as the council are closing places that don't comply.

Hoppinggreen · 15/10/2020 12:29

We are in tier 2 as well. Some restaurants will allow you to book 2 adjacent tables if you stay seated

JaceLancs · 15/10/2020 12:30

I can see I will be doing same as I did on cold wet days earlier in year
Going to supermarket at a pre arranged time to meet people in car park
We sat in our respective cars with windows down and had a socially distanced catch up - got me out of house too

MrsJBaptiste · 15/10/2020 12:31

A PP has said People are out drinking, buying clothes, going to DIY stores because they NEED to decorate their homes and getting their hair done, because looking good is really fucking essential during a pandemic

I agree none of these things are essential but are you really going to stay in feeling sorry for yourself for the next 6 months or longer?

I stayed in my house for 12 weeks shielding from the end of March and I don't want to do it again. So I’ll go out, take precautions, stay socially distant and keep aware of the situation. This could go on for a very long time yet.

buttery81 · 15/10/2020 12:33

When seeing friends and family you do not live with (or who are not part of your support bubble), you must not meet in a group of more than 6, indoors or outdoors. In England, this limit of 6 includes children of any age.

@PigletJohn so they can come to my house on Saturday but we can’t go to a restaurant/pub? I’m confused now! Confused

"Medium" alert which @PigletJohn is quoting is the lowest tier.. If you are in London you are cannot meet indoors (High alert)
Hopeisnotastrategy · 15/10/2020 12:42

@buttery81

But if people keep ignoring the rules then they'll call in the army. Is that what you want?

Grin

I don't know why you're laughing, we already experienced this under lockdown in Spain this year.
buttery81 · 15/10/2020 12:42

Oh, thanks @sarah12398. I assumed tier 1 = low, tier 2 = medium and tier 3 = high. But that would be far too straightforward!

OP posts:
userxx · 15/10/2020 12:44

We've had local restrictions for what feels like forever now and I've never seen anyone in the pub being questioned.

I know.. they don't make life simple do they! Confused

Just found out York is going in to "High" (tier 2) from Saturday..

LondonExpatLife · 15/10/2020 12:46

Does anyone know if household help such as a nanny or housekeeper can still work in your home? I have not found any information on this.

MrMeeseekscando · 15/10/2020 12:47

FFS I live 10 miles from my partner. We are med he is high.
I go from my pretty much covid safe office, to my home and to his. That's it. I don't see anyone else.
They can fuck off. I'm so done with this.
