Urgent - can two households still mix in restaurants?

I just read that London is going into tier two lockdown from midnight tomorrow, which means no households mixing indoors.

My question is, can two households still mix in a restaurant or pub? Just asking because my brother and SIL were due to come to my house for lunch on Saturday with my nephew, which is no longer allowed. Could we book a restaurant instead?

It's a bit silly if we can as presumably it puts us all at more risk, but if it's a way around the rules then we will do it!

I think it's a no.

Char2015 · 15/10/2020 10:12

It will be banned so no.

NannyR · 15/10/2020 10:13

No, you should only socialise in pubs/cafes/restaurants with members of your own household.

ohidoliketobe · 15/10/2020 10:13

Under tier 2 restrictions no, there's no mixing of households unless for support bubble purposes

ForeverBubblegum · 15/10/2020 10:14

I don't think you can. You can still meet outside, so if you pile on layers and find somewhere with a beer garden and heaters it might be allowed.

buttery81 · 15/10/2020 10:14

Damn - sounds like lunch is off then.

How will they enforce it though?

Thisisnotnormal69 · 15/10/2020 10:16

No. You can only do it outside.

The pub could check IDs with proof of address. Why, are you looking for a way round it? How responsible...

buttery81 · 15/10/2020 10:16

Okay, that might be an option!

They probably can’t/won’t enforce it but you shouldn’t be trying to break the rules. I get it’s far from ideal and crappy but this is where we are right now.
RemyHadley · 15/10/2020 10:17

No, you can’t. Enforcement is unclear although there has been talk of hiring Covid wardens who would do random checks. Also I guess they’d know if you’re unlucky and test and trace ends up contacting you about that lunch.

ChaChaCha2012 · 15/10/2020 10:18

They can't enforce it, the police don't have the manpower. But if people keep ignoring the rules then they'll call in the army. Is that what you want?

Tier 2 is no mixing households inside.
Outside is ok upto a group of 6.

Yes this. Couldn't you just have a zoom for one time, or go for a walk?

If people won't stop trying to get round the rules, we are going to make no progress.

ChaChaCha2012 · 15/10/2020 10:20

That option is available under Tier 3 regulations. Do you think it's funny?

Changedmynameagain1 · 15/10/2020 10:20

So we are subject to Tier 2, we’ve been in stricter conditions over the summer that banned mixed indoors.
Places here asked for proof, ie driving licence same address.

eurochick · 15/10/2020 10:23

Go for a walk instead. It looks like the weekend should be dry. Take a picnic if it needs to be over lunchtime.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 15/10/2020 10:23

No - because Covid is only due to arrive indoors in London restaurants at the weekend

It’s currently on its way down the M6/M40 from the north west

MessAllOver · 15/10/2020 10:24

Why don't you go to the same restaurant/pub, sit at different tables at different ends, set up a Zoom/Teams meeting on a laptop/tablet between the tables and then go for a nice walk afterwards Grin!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 15/10/2020 10:24

No- it’s fucking awful!
I plan to flounce the rules just to see my sisters family, she will be looking after my dd whilst I give birth imminently anyway.

buttery81 · 15/10/2020 10:25

We could - or just shout Grin

Are many people going to do this? Now I see why businesses are f*cked.

The army is struggling just as much as the police.
