I had my second trial injection last week and this week have tested positive for covid! Symptoms are very mild. I phoned the trial team when they first started even though it was within 7 days of my vaccine because I wasn't sure whether I should just go ahead and organise my own test.

They said yes, so I booked a drive through test, but I was also asked to do a home test for three days for the trial and to fill in the diary for 10 days.

I had to visit the hospital too (a different area than usual), for a blood test, another covid test and the usual blood pressure etc. I'm back again next week - I should've been there anyway for my day 35 appointment but will now be a covid follow up check.

I'm more interested than ever to know if I had the vaccine or placebo.

andadietcoke · 20/11/2020 13:40

Whoop! Appointment 3 - in and out in 25 minutes. Nurse went straight for the back of my hand for bloods so no issues like last time.

andadietcoke · 20/11/2020 13:41

@GreenPlum yes, that's my point. So they have a benchmark for us if we contracted Covid but didn't know about it.

GreenPlum · 20/11/2020 13:48

Exactly

GreenPlum · 20/11/2020 13:49

Hope you feel better soon Lisalandry

Colour of the vaccine/placebo mystery solved, at least partly. It's coloured tape around a syringe! I had my second jab today. I intently stared at the injection to find its colour. Even though I had known it might be blue/green, yellow or clear, it was a shock to see greenish colour. The injecting staff laughed to see a shock on my face and told me, "don't worry, it's not green!" People are staring at the injection trying to find out what they are receiving. The coloured tape is wrapped around the syringe so that they all look the same, at least in their clinic, I guess. That makes me wonder that the real vaccine and the placebo have different colours if they feel the need for the disguise!

@lisalandry It must have been quite an unexpected turn of events! It looks like you are being monitored and looked after really well. Hope you are Ok and wish you a speedy recovery!

Frazzled2207 · 20/11/2020 14:13

@lisalandry
Golly. Pleased that symptoms are mild. Hopefully you’ll manage to not pass it on to anybody and one way or another soon have antibodies to protect you in future.

Fascinating thread!!

Thank you all for taking part in the trials (and wfh on them).

@Stopyourhavering64 or anyone else...

Do you know if there are any diabetics on the trials? I was too nervous to sign up due to being diabetic

I'm going to have a vaccine as soon as I'm eligible because I'm sure that no matter the risk, it's more if a risk to me not to be vaccinated. (Diabetic, 41, overweight etc). But I'm curious to know if many braver than me diabetics are being trialled?!

Yes there are both type 1 and type 2 diabetics on trial
WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 20/11/2020 16:02

@Stopyourhavering64. Thank you for your reply. Do you know where (if anywhere) I'll be able to find out how many/how successful etc??

Seasiderabbit · 20/11/2020 16:14

Has anyone else had mild nausea the day after the first jab?

I have, but I guess it could be something else.

Not sure when this info will be disclosed....the interim results may not distinguish between comorbitities and it may need to wait till final trial results are published which may not be for at least a year ( once the annual follow up has been completed and study has been peer reviewed )
At each trial visit we have to take note of any adverse events( side effects) which have been experienced by everyone , ( irrespective of age/ comorbidities )since last visit - even if it's as inconsequential as hiccups or itchy eyes etc - which may have no bearing on vaccine whatsoever but still need to be noted and graded!
Each visit takes about 30-45 mins to upload to database
Despite me shielding and not having any contact with my nursing colleagues since March, at least I now feel that I'm helping in a small way!...and yes I will be taking vaccine when it becomes available!

Torvean32 · 20/11/2020 17:05

@Anatomical, you sound a bit like me
1st injection i had bad muscle ache in arms, back, legs and needed pain relief.

2nd was worse, i had same muscle pain but also joint pain. I needed more pain relief.
Both improved at around 72 hours.

I had my flu jab this week, got the normal warnings of muscle ache, flu like symptoms, runny nose etc - never got any of them Hmm

In phase 3, they are specifically wanting people with underlying health conditions to to take part. I have asthma, T2 diabetes, and a high BMI.

They are still appealing for more people from black and Asian backgrounds.

They do have plenty of exclusions though. High BP will rule you out as will some neurological conditions. They don't want you if you're pre menopausal but not using contraception!

mollypuss1 · 20/11/2020 19:01

@GreenPlum I’m pre menopausal and not using contraception and I’m on the trial Confused

Interesting! My friend was rejected at the first appointment! I had a lengthy discussion about it with the doctor at my second appointment.

Oh well!

Yes! I had my booster last week and I just asked "is that a green liquid" and they explained it was coloured sticky tape to mask the contents. Mystery solved! Still no side effects so if I'm not placebo group then this vaccine is really easily tolerated (for me anyway!)
