@GreenPlum

Re the injection being vaccine or placebo, I wonder whether there's such discrepancy in our reporting of who knows because it depends on their role. It's clear each site operates differently. Mine is in the very large sports hall of a university, whereas some seem to be in regular clinic type establishments. Perhaps the injectors themselves are varied too. Some might be HCAs and some might be clinical leads in the study. Maybe that accounts for some knowing while others don't. Just a thought. It's strange we're being told different things.
Sorry @GreenPlum, just read your post. At my first appointment the nurse doing my assessment said that the nurse giving the vaccine was the only one who knew what the vaccine was, as she had to make it up. Where i go is on a hospital site in a building where a lot of studies are run. They said basically they're given your details, stuff is entered into a computer which then decides if you get the placebo/vaccine. It was a qualified nurse that gave me the first and second injection. If a computer decides on which group you are in I guess anyone trained in giving injections can do it. I'd much rather a nurse than a Dr as they tend to have a better technique. A dr hit a vein in my arm once, i had the biggest bruise of my life.

So this is off topic but kind of on topic. This is a post from a medical page i follow on fb. The woman mentioned is the one that I got an email about her story of taking part in the Novovax study. I don't know all the details of her spending, however if she has leaked confidential details that concerns me. Anyway here is the post

Dear Kate Bingham, head of Boris Johnson's Coivd-19 Vaccine Task force. According to the Sunday Times and the Guardian, you seem to have spent £670,000 on PR consultants without achieving anything meaningful. Apart from leaking confidential vaccine development information to US venture capitalists. And giving presentations to Bankers' conferences on the virus. Might I ask why you were directly appointed to this role? Is it your background in pharmaceutical venture capital?

Or is it the fact you are married to Jesse Norman MP (Conservative), Financial Secretary to the Treasury?

Anyone been to Cheadle for the second appointment?

Just wondering how long it lasts there?

Torvean32 · 09/11/2020 18:49

Hi @BG2015, i dont go there, but i had my second appt last week. It was much quicker. Dr came in asked about any effects from 1st injection, asked if had any medical changes Then she did an examination of throat and lymph node areas.
Nurse did BP, temp pulse etc.
Then pregnancy test.
Other nurse came in gave injection
Went to recovery room, i was kept a bit longer as my pulse was up. So i think I was there for roughly. around 1 hours 15 mins. Way quicker than the first time.

I was there just under two hours (sorry!). They had a lot of people there for their first appointments so they were taking quite a long time to get through.
BG2015 · 09/11/2020 21:02

My appointments at 3.30 and I need to be in Leek to pick my son up by 6pm! Hoping it's quicker than last time!

andadietcoke · 09/11/2020 21:08

@BG2015 one of the things that took a while was waiting for my next appointment - you could do that by phone afterwards? My appt was 11 and I had my jab at 12.05. I should have been okay to leave at 12.20 but I didn't leave until 12.55 because I was waiting.

pennee · 09/11/2020 21:29

I had my first appointment today and my injection was yellow! If everyone had green what did I have 😂
So far just a little ache when I lift my arm similar to the flu jab but that’s it.
We had tea coffee and biscuits too and they were most put out when I didn’t want endless supplies 😁
Hope everyone is feeling well and we get a vaccine soon out of this. Great reward!

Torvean32 · 09/11/2020 23:02

Lucky you @pennee, we had no refreshments not even water, it's take your own only.
I've no idea of what the injections look like, i always look away .

Daftapath · 09/11/2020 23:44

I shall have to remember to look at the syringe next time. Was the actual liquid yellow or just the syringe? Do syringes even come in different colours?

Torvean32 · 09/11/2020 23:56

The syringe barrel is normally clear so the person drawing up fluid can see the exact ml that they need to use. The plungers can vary in colour but normally black. Needle colour can vary.

GreenPlum · 10/11/2020 16:02

I had my second visit today.
I was there for 1hr 15 mins of which 30 mins was observation post injection.
The liquid in the syringe was colourless! Zero side effects so far.

Frazzled2207 · 10/11/2020 16:18

had two jabs this end and definitely clear.

Definitely yellow liquid as I was staring at it 😂

Did you have any side effects?

pennee · 11/11/2020 07:12

@GreenPlum not really. I had a slightly tender arm yesterday where it went in but that’s normal for me with any injection. This morning I’ve noticed under both armpits are a bit achy when I’ve reached out but that’s it. Will have a look what colour it is next time 😁

Interesting! I'm still on zero!

Frazzled2207 · 11/11/2020 12:25

I have bloods next week (appointment 3). Anyone know how soon appointment 4 will be? When I asked nobody seemed to know! I

Torvean32 · 11/11/2020 12:33

Sorry cant help with that @Frazzled2207. When I signed up i was given the dates of both vaccinations then the first set of bloods.
I'm guessing they'll book the next ones at the appt.
I had an email from the study today saying that they hope to tell us good news soon!

Daftapath · 11/11/2020 13:21

@Frazzled2207 I was told 3 months, 6 months and 12 months from vaccine/placebo. I think that is what was said in the paperwork too.

Frazzled2207 · 11/11/2020 13:23

@Daftapath
yes sounds right - next week will be 6 weeks though since first dose so not sure where that fits in!

I had my first appointment at Cheadle today and mine was definitely a shade of yellow.
Interesting talk on the Pfizer one requiring storage at -80 and how feasible it will be to actually locate enough storage for billions of vaccines at that temperature

Cooroo · 11/11/2020 14:20

Appointment 3 today, in and out in 10 mins. Bloods taken (by med student!) and a few questions.
Next appointment is early Jan which is 3 months after my first.

Daftapath · 11/11/2020 15:58

@Frazzled2207 this is what my study paperwork says so you are 7 days out for the Day 35 followup?

"If you pass the screening visit, the study vaccination will be given on Day 0 and Day 21. You will then attend the study site for follow-up visits on Day 35 (14 days after second study vaccination) and at 3, 6, and 12 months after last study vaccination"

Torvean32 · 11/11/2020 16:03

So what happens if a vaccine becomes available while we are still in the study?
I've read that Novovax have requested to release stage 3 data as they get it rather than waiting til the end. They are only due to start stage 3 testing in the U.S. at the end of November. However the FDA is applying for some kind of early aporoval.
