@Someaddedsugar
They're a wonderful cheesey thin cracker type thing. I can't explain it, you must try them!

TheSilveryPussycat · 13/10/2020 22:01

And they are small enough that you can cram a good handful into your gob at once Blush

NoseringGirl · 13/10/2020 22:04

My kids are addicted to those treeselets, they are pretty good! We've also recently discovered KP cheese footballs and they're amazing too!

PickAChew · 13/10/2020 22:10

Are they like mini cheddars? Used to love those. Can't get away with cheese any more.

Shitfuckoh · 13/10/2020 22:12

I can't do that whilst the DC are awake @TheSilveryPussycat my youngest especially copies me, it's an eye opener! Might explain why my 6 year old said ''Are you going to share those this time or are they just for you Mammy?'' when he saw ASDA delivered some is a piglet

I'm not a big fan of the footballs. I think it's because I didn't realise the DC dad had opened a tub & put them back in the cupboard. So when I came to have one, it was all horrible & nasty. Haven't been able to eat them since. Who would open them & puts them with the unopened stuff?!

Shitfuckoh · 13/10/2020 22:14

@PickAChew
They're thinner, the cheese taste different to mini cheddars. More of a bitter type taste but it works with the thin ness of them.
Oh dear, no cheese at all? Is that allergy or intolerance related?

PickAChew · 13/10/2020 23:26

Since perimenopause cheese gives me horrible pukey migraines @Shitfuckoh. I can get away with small amounts, occasionally but it has to be really good to be worth the risk. Chocolate is even more heartbreaking, though my middle aged teeth are probably thankful for that.

Someaddedsugar · 14/10/2020 06:41

Thanks @dazzlingdeborahrose. Feeling a bit sad today but having a day with DS and DP and will be going concert hunting in her memory as she was the champion conker hunter of all time!

I have added cheeselets to our shop for Friday.

How's she doing @Snoringferret?

Morning all. Well I'm bloody sickened by scenes on TV. I definitely feel like I felt about a week or two before lockdown when I knew the Govt weren't acting. For reasons personal to me (being carer to Mum with cancer being one) I'm pulling DD out of school on Friday. I haven't decided exactly what im saying yet, but I need to feel like I am in control here and it will buy me some time, because I expect that by the following week, we will be going for the half term circuit break anyway.

Snoring I hope puss does well today, but sorry your trip got cancelled.

PennyDreadfuI · 14/10/2020 07:53

Thank goodness, I can use the site again and not the app! I tried clearing caches and all sorts last night and still got the error message. Fingers crossed it stays working because I really cannot express just how much I hate the app.

@Snoringferret fingers and everything else crossed that your cat is better soon. They're little sods for all the worry they put us through aren't they Flowers

@FrolickingLemon I haven't turned the TV on yet, what's happening? I don't blame you for taking your DD out of school. I would do the same in your situation. I know what you mean about it feeling like March, except this time it's actually worse - the government knows exactly what's to come and they're doing fuck all (these pathetic tiers and all the rest of it is like trying to empty a bath with a colander). It's so frustrating and yes, it feels out of our hands and like we have no control over what happens to us.

DD is starting her elf/grotto job in a couple of weeks and I have to say I'm really worried. So far we've managed to keep away from people as much as possible, more by accident than design really. DH has wfh since before lockdown and DD has been out of work since then unfortunately. She finished uni remotely. We don't have any family and no friends locally so mixing with others hasn't been an issue. We went to the pub once in August but apart from that, it's just been walks, supermarkets and a couple of trips into town in the summer. From the beginning of November though DD will be mixing with hundreds of people every day and using the metro to get to the airport. I know she has to work but honestly, it's kept me awake at night for the worry.

Ugh!

Thanks everyone.

She's off to the vets this morning to be put on a potassium and fluid drip. She's in a bad way but I honestly thought she wasn't going to make it through the night so was very happy to see her move around this morning.

As long as she can get to the vets I'm hopeful the potassium will sort her out.

My stripey shithead cat snuck into the bedroom where she is this morning and started to hiss at her but my other cat came out of nowhere and slapped her away. Not sure if he was protecting the little one or just any excuse to hit shithead.

The hotel have kindly let me rearrange my booking which was very nice of them because they didn't have to.

How is everyone feeling this morning? I think this circuit breaker will more than likely happen.

Shitfuckoh · 14/10/2020 08:18

@PennyDreadfuI
Sorry Grin

@PickAChew
No cheese or chocolate, whilst I guess that's a good thing, my body would be screaming at me!

@FrolickingLemon
Isn't it all worrying?! Can see it all happening and the Government seem to be going for head in sand option. Sorry to hear about your Mum. It's pretty disgusting that parents have been put in the position they have been. I hate to say lie, but in your position I'd go with D&V just started about 5am that morning - then Wednesday morning call in and say she's still not well and per the 48 hour policy, won't be returning that week.

I only say lie about it because I was put in the position where I had to keep DC2 at home due to my youngest needing to isolate and so far his school have refused to authorise the absence. They're fine with him being at home - work is being set by his wonderful teacher, but it's gone down as unauthorised.

Someaddedsugar · 14/10/2020 08:59

@FrolickingLemon thinking of you and your mum.

I feel like the weather really is reflective of the general mood these days - the first lockdown came with a general feel of optimism that we were all in it together and the sun was shining, yet now a lot of us feel lost and in the dark and it's pretty dull outside.

Plussizejumpsuit · 14/10/2020 09:16

I'm 35 and dreading menopause symptoms already. But the thought of no cheese or chocolate is devastating. You have my sympathy @PickAChew

I'm on antibiotics for my sinuses and my head is killing me and I have muscle aches all over. Why does my whole body hurt from a tiny part of my nose?! My GP has done a referral to ENT so at least he isn't just resigned to me putting up with the pain forever. I really could do with out iton top of the covid nightmare . I feel like this situation makes any other challenge feel so much worse.

I'm completely confused about us being in tier 2. It seems this is less restrictive than the local measures. So I'm not sure which guidelines we are supposed to be following?

IggyAce · 14/10/2020 09:18

How did I not know treeslets existed! I’ll be very good and only get one tub, they may test my new found will power but I will be strong. Since been diagnosed as type 2 earlier this year I found the will power to give up the sweet stuff and refined carbs, I’ve lost over 6st and put my type 2 into remission without meds so these little cheese trees will not break me. (They will be a nice treat over Xmas)

PickAChew · 14/10/2020 09:51

The 3 tiers are meant to replace the mishmash of local restrictions.

Tier 2 or 3 doesn't make any personal difference to me but piss takers will be piss takers regardless so I would feel more resentful of tier 3, IYKWIM.

The biblical rain has ceased, so I am off for that walk!

Plussizejumpsuit · 14/10/2020 09:57

The tree snacks sound great. @IggyAce that's some will power! I'm definitely in the camp of fat positiveity and not like many on mumsnet who believe fat is evil. But I do understand what it's like when if effects your health.

FrolickingLemon · 14/10/2020 10:18

Gosh I feel like such a heathen. I'm afraid I'm none too keen on Treeslets. But perhaps that's because I still hanker after the now no longer tangy / Worcester sauce twiglets. They made a brief reappearance a few years ago, but I do not take well to being teased! 😂

Ahh, it's definitely all a but crap isn't it? So much worry happening among us all for different reasons. But yet, that common concern is Covid / our Region and the winter ahead. I agree Penny that it would keep me awake at night too. Just pray all goes well and they have plenty of safety measures in place. I unfortunately can't see these sort of things progressing beyond November, but we will see.

@Shitfuckoh yeah, I'd had that thought myself. Our head is lovely, but I'd be doing myself no favours by being honest. I've had a very Frank conversation with (mature, almost 9 yr old DD) and explained my thoughts and reasoning. I've explained our personal / family risk. Talked about the Govt as I feel being too slow to act and so have said that my way is to take control. We also chatted about the economy and how fragile the balance is, but that ultimately in a Pandemic there is sometimes no real choice.

PickAChew · 14/10/2020 13:33

It's not just silver Street that's emptying :( 3 on a tow, there - Scorpio, EWM and Smiggle. Out of a sense of duty, I bought a signed copy of Nadia bakes from waterstones.

The haberdashery in the market hall was all boarded up. I hope that's just temporary. I had a panic when I couldn't find the t-shirt printing shop but they'd moved into the old art shop so I managed to get my thread. I ended up giving up on the stupid one way system though and I shall probably have to order my elastic from amazon.

Howay the lasses - it's thread (but hopefully not tier) 3!
Shitfuckoh · 14/10/2020 14:50

I feel like I've won a battle, that I shouldn't have been fighting anyway!
After lots of contact from my side with no response, I received a call today from DC2 school. The headteacher has looked through all the guidance and has put him down as authorised absence due to 'isolating' as I couldn't get him there due to younger sibling isolating.
I understand the schools hands were tied to some degree but ignoring all contact wasn't helpful and they could have made it much easier & less stressful.
Sorted for now though.

SouterSally · 14/10/2020 14:52

I went to Darlington today, wow I was shocked, McD shut Peacocks closing down, M&S opposite closed (I now a while back), Hotters and a few others so many closed up shops so sad to see...

But at least the council are doing 2 free hours parking

FrolickingLemon · 14/10/2020 15:03

Shitfuckoh good win. Except this was always going to be a scenario from the start, and I find it odd that they weren't aware / expecting/ clued up or had already had someone in that situation. Can imagine same thing with our school though. I've just sick to death of waiting for others to make decisions. Too much of a control freak. Also used to work for HMRC as a contingency / emergency planner so that may explain a lot about me...

PickAChew · 14/10/2020 15:21

DS1 and I were pleased when a little M&S simply food opened up in whsmith. OK, so it's not the same but at least it was somewhere to pick up a bit of lunch on our travels.
