Would you clap for the NHS again?

First time round I was enthusiastic for a few weeks. Completely tired of it now, and would not be joining in.

There was a thread on this while back - vast majority on thread no and the vast majority of NHS staff disliked it too.

RegularHumanBartender · 10/10/2020 09:30

Didn't the first time so it's a resounding no from me on any potential second time.

chunkyrun · 10/10/2020 09:31

Didn't do it the first time

Topseyt · 10/10/2020 09:31

No. It was ridiculous the first time around.

Pacif1cDogwood · 10/10/2020 09:31

No.

Am an NHS worker.

It was nice once, then became an embarrassment.

Rosehip10 · 10/10/2020 09:32

Also went from clapping to people acting like idiots with sound systems, karaoke, dressing up....

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 10/10/2020 09:34

Never did and I am a nurse.

Think the whole thing was awful.

CodenameVillanelle · 10/10/2020 09:34

What on earth for?

megletthesecond · 10/10/2020 09:35

I didn't do it first time round. It ended up with monumental dickheads setting off fireworks around here.
I try and keep healthy so I don't need them and are bloody lovely to them when I do need the NHS. And I don't vote Tory Wink.

oo0Tinkerbell0oo · 10/10/2020 09:35

A no from me and i work in NHS

110APiccadilly · 10/10/2020 09:35

Didn't the first time, but then I've had lots of experience of the NHS. Some great people in it, but the system itself is terrible. We need to move to the European insurance style model.

tigger001 · 10/10/2020 09:35

I do my bit for the NHS by being considerate to others and keep myself and others as safe as we can.

Clapping is not needed and it won't unite people as it did first time around.

MadameBlobby · 10/10/2020 09:36

Didn’t do it last time so no

mamma2016 · 10/10/2020 09:36

I'd rather pay more tax and give the nurses a pay rise!

Jrobhatch29 · 10/10/2020 09:36

God no

IdblowJonSnow · 10/10/2020 09:38

I did the first time around. Both sets of neighbours are NHS workers and they were outside clapping. Happy to show my appreciation. It was low key tho, no dressing up etc.

Marcellemouse · 10/10/2020 09:40

I'd forgotten about the fireworksGrin and the outrage on Facebook about the pan banging waking up all the local babies.

OP posts:
FubsyRambler · 10/10/2020 09:41

No, but I’ll support their claims for pay rises, better working conditions and not have their needs smothered by smug clapping instead of action.
It’s now the equivalent of a Facebook ‘like’ and as useful.

orangejuicer · 10/10/2020 09:45

Please god no.

AuntieStella · 10/10/2020 09:45

It's one of those things which was of its time.

it marked the start of pandemic restrictions, and the realisation of the huge demands on NHS (read the thread on here about how HCPs are feeling about their likely task this autumn) - not just organisationally but on the wellbeing of staff.

We're not really into new ground in the same way. We're just being asked to carry on doggedly and diligently. It's not going to be new and shiny and taken up by BBC as a 'keep your spirits up' story

AWiseWomanOnceSaidFuckThisShit · 10/10/2020 10:02

NO!!!!!! It was lovely and emotional the one time but it should have been left at that. These days everything has to be hammed up and cheapened so much that in the end everyone is sick to death of it.

I feel the same about Captain Tom Moore, though I'll probably get lynched for it. He did an amazing thing, but instead of everyone saying a huge well deserved thank you and that's it, it gets followed up and commercialised with TV interviews, songs (?!) and book releases until eventually it loses all meaning.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 10/10/2020 10:03

No, didn’t join in the first time as those doing it here were the same ones who weren’t SD, weren’t abiding by lockdown etc and just making a mockery of the whole meaning of it.

Vivana · 10/10/2020 10:03

Nope and would not join in if a second one either

serialreturner · 10/10/2020 10:09

@RegularHumanBartender

Didn't the first time so it's a resounding no from me on any potential second time.
Me too.

Tokenism at its worst. Multiplied by MP pay rise.

Fucking disgrace.

frozendaisy · 10/10/2020 10:10

It wasn't just about clapping the NHS though was it? It was seeing other people at a time when everything else was shut and for a brief 5 mins each week we and the kids had a sense of community which helped, certainly the children, to remind them it wasn't just our household.

So if we get total lockdown, no school, no sports etc. Then yes maybe for a sense of community again.

Doubt it will happen second time around.
