First time round I was enthusiastic for a few weeks. Completely tired of it now, and would not be joining in.

@Rosehip10

Also went from clapping to people acting like idiots with sound systems, karaoke, dressing up....
It went from a nice gesture (one Thursday evening) to cabin fever wackiness.
Suki2 · 10/10/2020 11:40

No; I did the first time but don't want to feel like I've gone back in time.

Pomegranatespompom · 10/10/2020 11:40

Honestly I think she was in a minority - most people deployed went to covid areas. I can see that would look awful though.
Agree re other workers, I’m going to get gifts for bins/postie etc

amusedtodeath1 · 10/10/2020 11:52

In principle, yes because NHS staff are, for the most part, hard-working dedicated people who deserve recognition for all their hard work.

In practice though it doesn't help anyone and they would rather have a decent pay rise I think.

Floralnomad · 10/10/2020 11:54

No , didn’t join in last time and won’t be doing it now or at any time in the future .

DameFanny · 10/10/2020 11:59

@Cinderellashoes

I’m a nurse, please don’t clap

Instead:
Don’t vote Tory
Take care of yourselves
Follow the bloody corona guidelines and don’t be a dick
Wash your hands, wear a mask and socially distance

Thanks Smile

This I can get behind Grin

As family with NHS nurses, I also agree with this, esp. request no. 1

bathsh3ba · 10/10/2020 12:45

No, I see it as pretty useless virtue signalling. Didn't clap the first time round either.

Funkypolar · 10/10/2020 12:47

There’s not really an NHS left, they only treat Covid.

HitchikersGuide · 10/10/2020 12:50

No.
Felt shamed in to it a couple of times last time because I didn't want everyone to hate me and therefore hate DC for 'non-compliance', but I'm now so sick of the virtue-signalling hypocrisy around Covid that I think I'll be braver next time.

Roselilly36 · 10/10/2020 12:51

No, we didn’t do it last time, found it completely patronising & pointless. Another ridiculous load of PC nonsense, my neighbours were well into it, and kept asking & reminding us to join in. Perhaps when government pay NHS properly we may consider joining in.

Lillysnotroses · 10/10/2020 12:53

I don’t think we need to do it again. I think at the time it was a good idea mainly it reminded me of the old days and community spirit.

LiveFromHome · 10/10/2020 12:54

No.

From chatting to nursing colleagues who work for the NHS, it seems that at least 50% of staff were sitting around at work with very little to do, whole departments closed to patients but the staff weren't redeployed.

But god forbid they, or anyone else, say that out loud.

herecomesthsun · 10/10/2020 12:54

No and I'm NHS. Email or write to your GP to get a better test and trace system/ testing for NHS staff/ more resources in schools to reduce spread.

That might just conceivably help the situation (possibly?)

Audreyseyebrows · 10/10/2020 12:55

@DameFanny

No, but I'll happily tweet Johnson and Hancock every Thursday at 8 to tell them they're incompetent tossers who need to give nurses and carers a payrise and stop giving public money to private healthcare and 'consultants'
Please do this!

It was lovely at first but got embarrassing when we left work each week to clapping and cheering. I had just finished a long shift and wanted to get home but had that awkward do I smile, do I join in, please let me get to my car.

herecomesthsun · 10/10/2020 12:56

Don’t vote Tory Take care of yourselves Follow the bloody corona guidelines and don’t be a dick Wash your hands, wear a mask and socially distance

And very much yes to all of that

roarfeckingroarr · 10/10/2020 12:57

No

herecomesthsun · 10/10/2020 12:57

Maybe Thursday 8pm could be activist time when people do stuff like tweeting Hancock, which I think is a lovely idea.

OverTheRainbow88 · 10/10/2020 12:59

Yes I would proudly, it hadn’t been their decision to stop lots of treatments etc. I know friends who work for NHS and I am proud to be their friends.

YellowOrangeRed · 10/10/2020 13:03

I didn’t clap the first time as I was kept waiting three months for urgent cancer surgery. I won’t clap a second time for the same reason.

HappyGG · 10/10/2020 13:11

I didn't clap for them first time round. I will join any campaigns to award them a well deserved pay rise though. I think they've had the most stressful time and if not already, about to undergo it all over again.

Maryann1975 · 10/10/2020 13:15

It started out as a nice gesture. All the neighbours came out and it was a nice social thing, To have a chat with neighbours and make sure everyone was ok (lots of older people on street). After a couple of weeks, their were neighbours with trumpets, tambourines, drums.
The family up the road are both nurses and have two primary aged children. Through the pandemic they were alternating shifts so they didn’t need to use childcare/school. They were knackered and couldn’t put the dc to bed on time on a Thursday because the clapping disturbed them, wound them up meaning it was even later when they went to sleep. They would have much preferred their neighbours to keep quiet in support of them!

HamishDent · 10/10/2020 13:17

No. It was cringeworthy the first time.

Cocklepops · 10/10/2020 13:18

Is anyone asking you to?

CutCopyPastedLikeYou · 10/10/2020 13:18

Nah. Never did it. Load of shite.
