What's all this Monday talk all about?

What now!!!
I'm in Lancashire in a local lockdown and I keep hearing people saying that things are going to change on Monday and there's been some sort of "leaked document" confirming so.
I've not seen anything confirmed and I'm not here to spread gossip... just wondering if anyone can shed any light? Is it about to get a whole lot worse for us lot in the north west? 😰

The government thinking we are stupid again by trailing news so far in advance that we accept it when it comes, regardless. It's SO patronising. Just spit it out, fuckwits.

ShinyGreenElephant · 09/10/2020 22:33

@november90 baby sensory will just carry classes over or move to zoom, you won't lose your money. I'll be heart broken if we have to go back to zoom though, little DD is loving being back at all her baby classes SO much, haven't seen her this excited for a long time. Even with masks and (attempted) sd, the face to face classes are a million times better

jasjas1973 · 09/10/2020 22:35

Its all PR Theatre.... Johnson doesn't give a flying fuck, if he did, he would announce restrictions now and not delay, we already know that locking down just a week earlier in March would have saved 1000s of lives.

Kite flying to see what the comments section in the Telegraph and 'Mail will be.

He has had all summer to prepare for the 2nd wave and has wasted this time, just as he did in January and february.

Lurkingforawhile · 09/10/2020 22:37

I thought the Daily Fail map was alarmist - it basically has only a very small number of areas in tier one. At the moment my area has no extra restrictions and a relatively low number of cases but they suggested we would be in tier two which would be a big change. I agree about enforcement- there seems to be a small number of pubs etc completely ignoring the rules and they could easily be the source of a big outbreak, like that guy who came back from holiday and didn’t isolate and gave it to loads of people.

foilflower · 09/10/2020 22:44

Support bubbles/ extended households have been suspended in lockdown areas in Wales (excluding for single people) so it wouldn’t surprise me if they do the same in England.

Aragog · 09/10/2020 22:51

I live in a student city, so in the past three weeks or so we've had around 25000 students turn up to go to the two universities. Earlier this week over 1000 cases here were down to the two universities.

If you look at the areas with the highest numbers most are cities with two or more universities.

Obviously moving tens of thousands of people across the country to live with strangers in groups of 4-10 at a time where they don't have to social distance or anything was always going to cause an increase in numbers.

We also aren't in position to compare positive cases now with March. In March and April we were only testing those ill enough to be in hospital Pretty much so we don't have an accurate number of positive tests to compare it too.

It would be more interesting to know how many of the current positives don't have symptoms or are mild cases.

RedMarauder · 09/10/2020 22:52

The Tory papers dislike Johnson.

RedMarauder · 09/10/2020 22:55

Oh and there is an issue testing postcodes.

I live next to a London borough where they discovered that out of about 700 positive test results about 100 where from other areas of the country and 70 had no postcode recorded.

That's ignoring losing the test results on the excel spreadsheet.

Support bubbles in England are already only for single people, and have been retained in all local lockdown areas so far. I would be very surprised if they suspended them. Extended households in Wales were households of any number of people, so involved more people interacting than the English version of a single adult household and one other household.
The80sweregreat · 10/10/2020 09:24

Daily mail just now; no national lockdown just local ones! 'Tier system ' which means nothing to many really if you think about it logically and schools / pubs still open etc.

ceeveebee · 10/10/2020 09:54

It means nothing to those who won’t be in tier 3, but thanks for the empathy...
It’s not just closing pubs (which thankfully the new job support scheme will at least give some hope), it’s stopping household mixing entirely (including, if the draft is to be believed, support and childcare bubbles). And this is after over 2 months of being under restrictions. The impact on the mental health of those living in these areas will be massive. I am already at breaking point.
But hey, as long as it doesn’t affect the south it’s all fine?

PumpkinPie2016 · 10/10/2020 10:03

My area will be tier 3. Tier 3 says no overnight stays in a private residence in a teir 3 area.

Hoping this means I can still go to the Lake District at Oct half term. It's just me, DS, DH in a holiday cottage with no one else?

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 10/10/2020 10:08

Meaningless given most cases are in education and carehomes. Remote education would have a bigger impact on case numbers and more police/Marshall’s etc to stop all the rule breakers.

RegularHumanBartender · 10/10/2020 10:14

I'm in Lancashire too. Closest "big city" is Preston. From a very selfish point of view, which I shan't apologise for, we are itching for the announcement on Monday. I've been scouring the news and it seems to be hinting that Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and Newcastle will be forced to close all hospitality. I can't find anything that says how far this will extend though.

Like PPs I too absolutely hate the reporting around this. As though "the north" is one homogeneous seething mass of chimneys, smog and 20 people in a 2 up 2 down who go around licking tables and snotting covids into the faces of elderly pedestrians because we're just too stupid to understand the rules Angry

ceeveebee · 10/10/2020 10:21

They haven’t actually confirmed what Tier 3 will be or where it will be applied - it’s all conjecture until Monday
And yes I agree @RegularHumanBartender. We have stuck to the guidance religiously, in fact it’s part of my job to interpret them (without saying why, they affect our customer base across the whole UK) so I know the guidance and the legislation very well. But with a virus that grows exponentially it only takes a minority to flout/misunderstand the rules for the rates to grow rapidly.

ceeveebee · 10/10/2020 10:25

I don’t remember where I saw it, but I saw a chart that attributed something like 60% of cases linked to workplaces and educational settings (primarily universities, but also FE and secondary -minimal in primary). But as they have committed to prioritising these staying open, the next on the list was pubs/restaurants. Which massively contradicts what we have previously been told that it’s all down to household transmissions.

As well as the risk of losing support and childcare bubbles, I really hope they do not stop organised sport. It’s the only thing keeping me and the DC sane!

RegularHumanBartender · 10/10/2020 10:26

Can I ask where you read this?

We are due to go to North Yorkshire on Friday, staying in a hotel, to see my sister in law who lost her son a week ago. She is absolutely desperate to see us, I'm honestly afraid for her if we can't go. I keep getting called selfish for worrying that we won't be able to go and I'm equal parts Angry and Sad

ceeveebee · 10/10/2020 10:29

It’s from the leaked memo which is 10 days out of date and not the final version
downloads.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/english/covid-19_proposed_social_distancing_framework_briefing_aid.pdf

ceeveebee · 10/10/2020 10:30

I think a hotel would not be classed as a private residence? But it’s all just conjecture until Monday

ceeveebee · 10/10/2020 10:31

Unless it means that, as in the first lockdown, you won’t be allowed to stay away from home if you are in a tier 3 area, which would effectively ban holidays. But who knows until it’s announced

RegularHumanBartender · 10/10/2020 10:32

Thanks ceeveebee

I'm hoping it is OK as it is a hotel. I hate that we have to be drip fed by the bloody news.

ceeveebee · 10/10/2020 10:35

I think they do it on purpose to test reaction and likelihood of compliance. They seem to give the threat of strict restrictions and then when the actual ones are published they haven’t (so far) seemed as bad. They probably read all these threads!

Bookrat · 10/10/2020 10:57

RegularHumanBartender So sorry for your family's loss. It could never be selfish to support a grieving mother. I hope you are able to comfort each other. Flowers

RegularHumanBartender · 10/10/2020 13:13

Thank you Bookrat

RaraRachael · 10/10/2020 14:12

In Scotland we were lulled into a false sense of security by NS saying there wouldn't be a national lockdown. The announcement the following day might as well have been one.
Areas where there are very few cases being forced to close down at 6 and not allowed to visit family and friends .
Great school holiday we're going to have Angry
