People ignoring the rules - so frustrated!

We are on holiday at the moment staying in a lovely village pub. Yesterday we were enjoying a drink there which was spoilt by a party of people who weren't all wearing masks when not seated at a table.

They were in a separate room (no door just a walk through) but we could see them through a window. They wore masks when going to the toilet but not when they were all chatting around different tables.

We complained only to be told they had just attended a funeral. I don't think covid cares! This has really put a dampner on our holiday. Why do people think the rules don't apply to them?

Oh for God's sake....

greenlynx · 03/10/2020 14:35

I agree with Ocaro 100%. I couldn’t move past the point that you’re on holiday and in a pub. I think we all were encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel and you did exactly the opposite.

By the way these people were in a separate room and put masks on to go out. Some of them might be from the same household some might be exempt.

SueEllenMishke · 03/10/2020 14:42

Just look after yourself and those under your care. Enjoy your holiday and dont waste time worrying or complaining about what people in another room are doing.

This.
If things like this are going to bother you then I'm not sure going on holiday is a good idea right now.

Or leaving the house for that matter.
AlexaShutUp · 03/10/2020 14:51

Yeah, I get frustrated with people who don't follow the rules, but I would cut people some slack when they have just attended a funeral tbh. It doesn't sound like they were really putting you at risk.

Personally, I think it's quite irresponsible to travel unnecessarily at the moment, so wouldn't go on holiday. You might not have broken the rules, but I don't really think you're in any position to judge.

Laaalaaaa · 03/10/2020 14:59

Wow - I bet you’re the kind of person who stands curtain twitching ready to phone 999 as your neighbours have visitors exceeding whatever your local guidelines dictate.

Marcellemouse · 03/10/2020 15:11

This has to be a joke.

KatherineJaneway · 03/10/2020 15:12

You can't control those who do not follow the rules. Only your own behaviour.

I saw a woman politely challenge another woman on public transport not wearing her mask properly I.e. not covering her nose. She complied but a few minutes later had pulled it down again.

Ellsbells12 · 03/10/2020 15:15

Cannot believe you actually posted this
Poor locals go home if you don't like it

AllAboardGiraffe · 03/10/2020 15:38

On holiday and in a pub yet criticising people who actually live there for sitting at a table and not wearing a mask! 😂😂😂😂

Absolutely ridiculous!

SavoyCabbage · 03/10/2020 15:45

Your entire complaint is that you could see (when looking through a window) they they weren't all wearing masks when not seated at a table?

Honestly you need to take a look at your own decision making here. I am judging you far, far more then the people who 'weren't all wearing masks when not seated at a table'.

You may be allowed by law to go on holiday but doing so is far more foolish and irresponsible than the people who you saw through a window.

Bouncycastle12 · 03/10/2020 15:46

Aren’t you allowed up to 30 people at a funeral?

Popcornismandatory · 03/10/2020 16:18

This thread can't be real I'm calling bullshit.
Goady Fucker.

whirlwindwallaby · 03/10/2020 16:23

They had likely all been at the funeral together and were in a separate room? If there were many more than the 30 people allowed at the funeral then you might have a point.

ilovesooty · 03/10/2020 16:24

That's for the service I think, not the wake.

I don't understand the angst if they were in another room anyway. I assume their table was in the vicinity? In which case I also don't see why you would be upset that they stood instead.

I could understand it if they were hovering around your table, just wandering about. But it sounds they were a way away, so I am not really getting how that could spoil your day.

cologne4711 · 03/10/2020 18:44

@DownThePlath

A dampener on your holiday? Hilarious.
This was the bit that jumped out at me, too.

Well if it was they haven't got the reaction they wanted. And if it is true, again they haven't got the reaction they perhaps thought they would.

Buckwheat80 · 03/10/2020 22:31

They were wearing masks when they left their seats (despite it being a stupid rule) and were in a different room. It wouldn't bother me at all.

If you're so concerned about not spreading / catching it (a) don't go on holiday and (b) don't go to the pub.

secretllama · 03/10/2020 22:58

Human beings acting like human beings. Shock! Call the church elders! Jesus christ. The sooner people realise the ridiculousness of asking people to change natural human behaviour in the aim to eliminate a virus the better.

TorkTorkBam · 03/10/2020 23:08

Oh well, if the government has not explicitly banned travelling far out of your local area to hang out for no reason other than you fancied a change of scenery then it must be totally safe.

FFS engage your brain. YOU were the riskiest people there.

Forgetmenot157 · 04/10/2020 00:56

Quite depressing if something like that can ruin a family holiday. People really need to get over the whole caring what other people are doing.

FrothyB · 04/10/2020 01:14

7/10 OP. You've had a few bites, but you tried just a little too hard and gave the game away.

KitKatastrophe · 04/10/2020 04:09

@swimlyn

The people who insist on flouting the rules are extending this wretched time ad infinitum.

We can look forward to at least another year of this madness, probably more.

Unfortunately all you can do is be the sensible ones and take precautions.

Don’t hang around in negligent establishments like this.

No, the fact that there is a virus around with no vaccine is what is extending this "ad infinitum". Even if everyone in the UK locked down for 3 months, as soon as we started returning to any semblance of normality, the cases would begin to increase again. The virus is at fault here, not people. If you must blame some people, blame the government not a group of people at a wake or university students attempting to live their lives or kids hugging their grandparents.
