Would you have chosen as a PM to lead us through the pandemic? I voted labour but I'm not sure Jeremy Corbin would have done any better. Kier Starmer perhaps. But I keep going back to Rory Stewart and wondering if he would have done a good job. I really liked him at the time.

So, who do you think would have made the best PM through the pandemic?

Thatcher.

It's worth reading through Jeremy Corbyn's feed on FB. He's consistently advocated for all the measures that the government put into place, but two or three weeks ahead of them. Also, had he been in power longer term, he'd have ensured the NHS was far better funded, so reducing the massive impact that underresourcing has had.

I think he'd have done a good job. Of course, the media would still desperately spin it negatively. If he managed a New Zealand level of success, the media would still put a negative spin on it!

ChaChaCha2012 · 30/09/2020 17:28

Thatcher would have put roadblocks below the Midlands and left everyone north of it to die.

Maybe a little exaggerated, below Manchester? She hated us northerners.

Backyard72 · 30/09/2020 17:28

Yes, Rory Stuart, not a muppet like the rest.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 30/09/2020 17:29

There has been a thread on this recently OP.

Mine were Blair, Cameron, and yes possibly Thatcher.

vera99 · 30/09/2020 17:32

Corbyn would have paused Brexit and invigorated the Civil Service to get on top of the policy issues required to get on top of it rather than demotivated them. Apparently, 30k civil servants are working on post-Brexit policy implementation in the middle of a global pandemic. Great use of resources.

PeartreeProductions · 30/09/2020 17:33

@ChaChaCha2012 agree

Wish it could be Starmer now but all we have left is Boris.

So yeah a toaster would be better than Boris at this time

MrsSchrute · 30/09/2020 17:34

Jeremy Hunt. Much more serious and competent politician than BoJo.

historyismything · 30/09/2020 17:34

I agree with everything @ChaChaCha2012 said.

MrsWooster · 30/09/2020 17:34

Anyone else. Johnson is an incompetent blustering fool.

Buckwheat80 · 30/09/2020 17:36

Boris is so bad that he makes Jeremy Hunt look like a good idea.

shoofle · 30/09/2020 17:39

Agree with @ChaChaCha2012

BrokenBrit · 30/09/2020 17:40

Any other leader, of any of the other political parties in Westminster maybe not the DUP, both at present or in the recent past.

I honestly think he is totally corrupt and dangerously incompetent.

ShinyGreenElephant · 30/09/2020 17:42

Agree with @ChaChaCha2012

Corbyn would have done a better job than Johnson but been utterly vilified in the media, far, far more than the current lot have been

YouWereGr8InLittleMenstruators · 30/09/2020 17:42

I was wondering about Rory Stewart just this morning, having a little giggle about someone referring to him as Florence of Belgravia.

He seems to have gone a bit quiet of late, but despite being a Tory, appeared sensible and a listening, reflective sort during the leadership contest.

Char2015 · 30/09/2020 17:46

Piers Morgan, the only one speaking any sense.

If nothing else I think Corbyn would have put proper support in place so that it wasn’t a choice between isolating and putting food on the table or losing your job.

But I’d agree with Thatcher too, although I’d say no in any other circumstance. She’d at least be able to get a decent grip on the situation we are facing and the potential outcomes.

This.
MarshaBradyo · 30/09/2020 17:49

Starmer would do well I reckon

But I don’t rate others in his team

LemonTT · 30/09/2020 17:51

I didn’t stop voting labour because of media spin. I’m well aware of it. I stopped voting labour because of JC. His anti EU stance which impacted on the Brexit vote and how we exited was a primary reason for it. The fact that he surrounded himself, like Boris, with unelected and sinister advisors who steered policy and purged the party of moderates was just the nail in the coffin.

I didn’t vote Tory either. But I refuse to align myself with people who think JC was any better and who think insulting people who don’t agree with their politics will get them elected. It won’t.

Labour had 5 years of an open goal in terms of winning back power. JC squandered them and made the party unelectable into government.

In the choice between a catastrophe and a disaster I chose neither. We deserved better and the activists in both partiwho stopped us having that choice should be ashamed.

Oh god. I agree. How can this be? Confused
SleepingStandingUp · 30/09/2020 17:53

But Boris is as wise as he is handsome!!

QueenStromba · 30/09/2020 17:53

I agree with Thatcher since she was a scientist. Merkel was a scientist and Germany are doing a hell of a lot better than us.

Mamamia456 · 30/09/2020 17:55

Another one for Thatcher.
