What is this about video diagnoses and vaccination in surgery carpark
Are these exceptional cases ?

Since ~22 May, GPs and dentists here have been seeing patients in their surgeries as normal, including vaccinations and resuming the regular bloods , smears etc
Waiting rooms only have a few people at a time; we are all wearing masks and reception are behind perspex.

Does it really help if other people give their risk decisions when their age/risk is likely to be different to yours?

Personally I dont consider staying in a different location to be risky in itself, providing it's being cleaned. When we stayed in an airbnb you could smell they'd used something pretty drastic, possibly a disinfectant fogger. You could always take your own fogger but fomites are unlikely to be an issue. I'd taken my own cleaning spray for metal items, didnt feel the need to use it. We drove there, so no public transport issues.

Of course you might be doing more risky activities than usual (we ate out) but you dont have to do that, you could just, e.g., sit on the balcony of your flat looking at the sea (wind and rain permitting) and take food supplies with you.

Eating out is a risk but may places do takeaways and as long as its delivered quickly you wont get enough virus to be a risk, you can microwave food for a minute if really terrified.

The big risk is always being with other people without masks on in unventilated spaces.

PrayingandHoping · 04/10/2020 20:13

At my doctors everyone is triaged over the phone now and assessed whether you need a face2face appointment. Otherwise you get a video or are asked to send a photo and get another phone call. Tbh I would say it's a good system and for us has worked very well

Flu vaccinations have been done in car park

All other vaccinations/smears etc are all working as normal where u book an appointment

Sunshinegirl82 · 04/10/2020 20:13

GP surgeries are still like Fort Knox! It's almost impossible to get a face to face appointment.

Mine have done well with the flu vaccine though. They did walk through clinics on Saturdays and people had a time slot, queued outside and then went in for the jab. I think they are through those entitled to it now pretty much.

I'm booked into Boots for mine, my work pay for it via a voucher.

alreadytaken · 04/10/2020 20:18

Quite a few surgeries have set up gazebos in car parks to see at least some patients, it reduces the numbers in the surgery waiting room. No idea if people are still being seen at our practise as we are not regular visitors.

Our gp is one of the ones who doesnt bother even to contact those vaccinated against flu last year - and doesnt seem to be prioritising those at high risk either. Anyone wanting a flu jab has to go on their waiting list as they have run out.

MRex · 04/10/2020 20:19

That's ridiculous of the GP; I'd try to get a local pharmacy to do the jab, but also raise a complaint with the PCT. My parents can be prone to saying things like "the GP is shut, is phone appointments only" and it took 5 goes to make them call and find out that yes, Dad could go in to see the nurse after all for his bloods to be taken. The issue is that even if the GP is ready to make allowances, some people won't follow up because they assume they should "do what the doctor tells them". I really hope GPs follow up on their vulnerable patients who haven't had the jab, frankly they should be calling them every few months anyway to check in, but sadly I suspect few will. We really need more tax for a more well equipped health service.

@Goldistheanswer

Why are the daily figures so late?
Are they not out yet-I came on here to look for them? That’s late.
Augustbreeze · 04/10/2020 20:24

Is it too cynical of me to think that today's "add-on" number is going to be bigger than yesterday's? Hence them leaving it so late again, and they gave us yesterday's just to get us used to the idea?

Augustbreeze · 04/10/2020 20:26

It was 8.38pm yesterday....

Hmmph · 04/10/2020 20:29

No a nurse won’t do it. I did suggest the local pharmacy (she’d have to walk a couple of miles to get there though) but she doesn’t seem to agree about Boots giving NHS flu jabs.

I did complain to the doctors about it but they basically just said sorry that’s how things are. I am not sure what PCT stands for, but would be happy to complain anywhere.

The saving grace is that she isn’t going anywhere because of Covid so isn’t likely to catch ‘flu.

justchecking1 · 04/10/2020 20:33

PCT is the primary care trust

Hmmph · 04/10/2020 20:35

Thanks.

I might do that now whilst I’m waiting for today’s figures!

Frazzled2207 · 04/10/2020 20:36

(technical point - PCTs were abolished some years ago though the term is still used. They morphed into Clinical Commissioning Groups or CCGs which very broadly took on similar geographical areas) .

MRex · 04/10/2020 20:46

Sorry, it's hard to keep up with the ever-changing acronyms of life. Yes, CCG. If you search on the name of the doctor surgery and CCG you'll find out the name.

Keepdistance · 04/10/2020 20:48

The gp basically told me it was my issue that in march and after i was too worried to go and have a blood test. (I waited till aug). when i tried to explain why i hadnt been. They said they had been in masks and ppe throughout. (Not from that point in early marc h i suspect personally.) Im also sure i wouldnt have been given a mask as surely i wasnt in august. But irrelevant really as i didnt want to go.

Augustbreeze · 04/10/2020 20:50

So now the Data site only has the message about the "found" data; yesterday there was a separate notice about the results being late. Nothing today. Strange.

EmmaWithTheGreatHair · 04/10/2020 20:51

Regarding flu jabs.

I suppose I was lucky. I’d gone to collect a prescription from our pharmacy (the one attached to gp surgery) and lady behind the counter asked if I’d like to put my name down for a flu jab, this was end of Aug time ( I think). I said yes, for myself (currently on Biologics so on immunesuppresents and contacted to shield during the first lockdown) and for DS, who is asthmatic asked if he could have one at the same time, although his would be the ‘live’ vaccine. Was told at the time they would need to check on the live vaccine closer to.

As it stands, I’ve now had my flu shot but DS hasn’t had his yet. Our GP surgery posted on social media that they were contacting those who had been shielding and those who were vulnerable for the first round of flu jabs. I haven’t received any letter but luckily I’ve already had mine. Ds is yet to receive an appointment so I might ring them next week.

Redlocks28 · 04/10/2020 20:58

@Augustbreeze

It was 8.38pm yesterday....
It’s really late then, isn’t it!?
SeekingAnswers3 · 04/10/2020 20:59

Still not updated... how bizarre

Jenasaurus · 04/10/2020 21:01

@GetAMoveOnTroodon

I’d love to know how many other trusts are doing the same (re non-isolation) as I can’t imagine they’re the only one. I’m all up for forwarding the email to the Guardian, but DH doesn’t want it getting back to him as he already has a reputation as a trouble-maker over covid. He refused to work on the covid ward without a proper mask (he’s ECV due to severe asthma and should never have even been in a covid ward but that’s another story) right at the start of it all and the management have been a nightmare ever since.
My trust is being pretty good about track and trace with non-operational staff, the usual track and trace isolation applies. The paramedics however when out on a COVID shout would be excempt as in PPE and it would happen all the time and we would end up short of paramedics if they isolated every time so track and trace is turned off when in PPE on a shout. I think that makes sense
Hmmph · 04/10/2020 21:03

Sorry, last bit on the drive through only flu jabs - they even have this message on their website:

“We are encouraging families and neighbours to car share wherever possible.”

Really?! I can’t believe a doctors is encouraging vulnerable and/or elderly neighbours to cram into cars together. You couldn’t make it up!

Goldistheanswer · 04/10/2020 21:07

Does anyone think they’ll skip the figure for today? It’s getting late and no sign whatsoever.

SpookyNoise · 04/10/2020 21:08

I get a free flu jab. DP went to the local chemist and paid for one this year. I had mine done at the same time, but didn’t have to pay for mine. They said they’d let the doctor know I’d had it. My doctors didn’t have their stock of jabs in yet for under 65s.

Frazzled2207 · 04/10/2020 21:08

if they had gone home then I can't see why they wouldn't have put a message up saying 'sorry no figures today back tomorrow'. Which makes me think it will come. I'm sure we've occasionally seen figures gone 9pm occasionally before.

SeekingAnswers3 · 04/10/2020 21:13

Are they waiting to miss the paper headlines or something like that?
