How are people catching it?

Just a very unscientific anecdotal poll...if covid is not totally crazy in your area, how are people who test positive getting it? (If they know).

I'll start:

In a nursing home and bedbound, so presumably through staff.
Hospital acquired
The nanny tested positive and then one of the children she minded did.
No idea but the only place she was was grocery shopping (others in the household mix with the public though. And reports of individuals not isolating in that town Angry)

2 I know it from working in care homes. 1 of the none of her kids or her partner caught it. The other one her husband and child caught it. Child was okay, mum ill for a couple of weeks, dad still has ongoing issues.

1 caught it working in a hospital.

A nurse we know at the local hospital said all the new cases she has seen have been on holiday recently! Angry

A relative of ours died from a carer doing her daily visits. Sad

I caught from a colleague. We had lunch together, face to face, no masks, talking and eating together. He was ill - but we didn’t twig at the time as it was 29 degrees inside our office that day, and we both felt hot and sick!

He caught it (he thinks) from playing volleyball and having a beer with his infected team mate.

I’ve managed not to pass it on (family all tested negative) but his daughter has caught it from him.

@miimblemomble

If you don’t mind me asking, how close were you sitting while having lunch? I worry a bit at our work that we wear masks all day, then sit together having lunch, in limited space. No other choice of location, prob 1m ish apart, sometimes more sometimes less depending on numbers.

My DD got it from a member of staff at her school.

Jenasaurus · 29/09/2020 21:53

1 caught it from hospital patient (Paramedic aged 52, ) sadly died and on his birthday too
1 caught it from college (also died, only 21 too)

I know a family who all tested positive a couple of days ago.
They’re pretty careful but someone brought it into the house.
I’m betting it was work (they’re not the type to be attending parties etc).

Northernsoullover · 29/09/2020 22:35

@Chestergirl39 that is way too close Sad. Can you go outside?

Quarterback11 · 29/09/2020 23:24

@Jenasaurus That's really sad about both Sad

@Chestergirl39 We have to stagger breaks and use an office so we can socially distance at lunch time. It's higher risk as no masks obviously.

@Chestergirl39

It was across a standard school dining table, so just under a metre. I’m in France, and the «social distance» here is 1m apart. But the one thing that the govt cannot mess with here is lunch - most of the working population expects a sit down meal with their colleagues. Packed lunch at yr desk is pretty much unthinkable. Thé cantine at my workplace doesn’t even sell sandwiches - sit down, three courses only. Anyway, it was close enougheven though it wasn’t for long!

Chestergirl39 · 30/09/2020 16:11

So not really close then, that’s interesting.

We are in a hospital, so stuck with set lunchtimes. Can go outside but no seats or shelter.

We start spread out 2m, but tend to get others joining in between as no where else to go.

Made a conscious effort to make more space today after this post.

I am a Ta in a class of 34, my partner works in a busy food distribution warehouse. My eldest is at uni and a delivery driver for Tesco. 2 children in secondary school and one in yr 2. We have followed all the rules to the letter and feel very fortunate (and surprised) that none of us has caught it
