Would you go on holiday from a lockdown area to a lockdown area?

Just that really! I was due to go on holiday October half term to an area that is in local lockdown, I am also in a local lockdown area. I’m thinking it’s probably best to cancel?

OP posts:

@HardJustGotHarder I don’t think it’s ‘people like’ the OP why this isn’t going away but I see you’ve adopted the governments tactic of blaming the public for their failures

BBCONEANDTWO · 27/09/2020 08:22

@gingajewel

Thanks all, it is haven we are going to which has the coronavirus guarantee of money back. In local lockdown I was aware that we could travel to go on holiday, I just wondered if other people would, therefore wasn’t been selfish just trying to gage opinion. It was only my family going so wouldn’t be mixing with anyone, just wondered if people would go or not!
Go please go - provided it's not cancelled. You're not being selfish at all.
Furbs · 27/09/2020 08:36

I wouldn't have an issue if you weren't self contained, that was purely a consideration when I was risk assessing our own holiday.

Go on your holiday. Have fun.

HarrietOh · 27/09/2020 08:38

True actually, it isn’t “local lockdown” it’s just “extra restrictions.” I’m in one of those areas and it doesn’t feel any different.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 27/09/2020 08:39

@Iwantacookie

Can you leave a local lockdown area without a good reason? I thought you couldnt?
Yes you can - because it's not 'lockdown' as we knew it as a country at the beginning of all this, it's more that there are different restrictions in place. But you can definitely leave/enter these restricted areas and go on holiday (but only with members of your own household for UK holidays). They are trying to reduce the number of people meeting mainly.
RockingMyFiftiesNot · 27/09/2020 08:44

I live in a restricted area and am becoming increasingly angry at people who really don't understand the rules slagging people off for doing things which ARE allowed, including many people on this thread. You are allowed to go on holiday, just not with another household in the UK). Whether you personally believe that to be right or wrong, those are the rules. These areas are NOT in a tight lockdown in the same way we all were at the beginning.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 27/09/2020 08:57

I agree @RockingMyFiftiesNot
I'm in Bolton, there isn't a bloody big fence round us, we can go out of the area. We just can't mix with other households, if you're not mixing with anybody else, wash hands regularly and follow the rules you can't spread it and we don't all have it ffs!
Op has clearly said she's in self contained accommodation, isn't meeting anyone and is following the rules.
Hope you have a good holiday op. X

Iwantacookie · 27/09/2020 09:04

This has genuinely shocked me. I honestly thought you couldnt leave local lockdown area (I might be getting confused with Wales though judging by replies)
But op your not breaking any rules so go and have a lovely holiday

Dozens · 27/09/2020 09:10

We are in Wales and I know someone who has just travelled to Birmingham to fly to Turkey. Is that actually allowed?

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 27/09/2020 09:11

If you're in England, it's allowed. I'm in a local lockdown area and I'm going to Turkey next weekend.

Enjoy your holiday.

ceeveebee · 27/09/2020 09:11

There are no “local lockdown” areas - they are called “areas with local restrictions” - but of course everyone must know this as they have all checked the government guidance before stating that they are 100% sure about things... 🤔

Furbs · 27/09/2020 09:13

Taken from the Government Website. I'm in Scotland and we have the same rules.

England will follow suit eventually and the entire country will have these additional restrictions. To not allow movement would plunge the so many within the hospitality sector into bankruptcy.

Now hopefully people can calm down and accept the OP is doing nothing wrong.

Would you go on holiday from a lockdown area to a lockdown area?

If they are in an area of Wales that has been put under local lockdown (there are I think 6 counties in South Wales) then they are not allowed to leave their county and not allowed to go on holiday If not in those areas then yes they are allowed gov.wales/local-lockdown
Ilikewinter · 27/09/2020 09:18

Its not a lockdown its extra restrictions...i live in one and have just come home from spending a week in a different area.
Yes absolutely go OP and switch off all news feeds and social media

It's understandable why people are confused. The government and media don't help by referring to them as 'lockdown areas' which is not correct.
briebuiltthiscity · 27/09/2020 09:28

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with what you’re doing but...
If you’ve got Covid cover I’d be tempted to delay as it’s likely to be a bit shit in terms of having anything to actually do. Eating out etc is a bit joyless at the moment, pools will likely he closed etc.

IdblowJonSnow · 27/09/2020 09:32

It depends. If it was in the uk and you were staying in an airbnb and not mixing outside your bubble, for example, then I'd go.
Tighter restrictions are imminent I reckon. Change of scenery while you can.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 27/09/2020 09:33

You can, it's permitted. I would and I will (currently in an area with local restrictions, destination has some restrictions too). Especially as my half term holiday was booked in January before everything kicked off.

leolion1 · 27/09/2020 09:43

Why so snobby about Blackpool? YABU for that comment alone.

ceeveebee · 27/09/2020 09:43

I think it’s understandable to be confused. But not understandable to post giving advice about roolz when you clearly haven’t even read them.
Now I think I’ll just pop onto the employment law threads and post some advice about the way I think the law should work even though I am not a lawyer...

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 27/09/2020 10:12

@HardJustGotHarder

Its people like you why this virus isnt going anywhere
Please expand
RockingMyFiftiesNot · 27/09/2020 10:17

@MushMonster

100% sure no, as you cannot leave lockdown area 1 if you do not have a good reason. And holidays do not add to a good reason. Enjoy your local area! It is back to the garden and local park for us here too, and it feels disheartening to be back in it like this, but we will not doa Dominic Cummings, and check our eyesight.....
This isn't true in England - I think this is true in some areas of Wales. Actually OP which country are you in as if Wales you may not be allowed to travel. Yes if you're in England tho
JellyBert · 27/09/2020 10:23

I’m in Manchester and have just been to Morecambe. We have north wales booked in October but not sure how that will work.
These holidays were booked for March/June and have been moved! I have also cancelled two holidays.

If I can go, I will go Smile

Dozens · 27/09/2020 10:33

Yes she’s gone from an area with local restrictions. I’m surprised they weren’t stopped at the airport??
