Will you be getting the track and trace app? If not, why not?

I've downloaded it. The only info I had to give was the first half of my postcode. I'm happy to use it, I have nothing to hide! However, I know there will be people who are unhappy to use it. If you are one of them, please tell me why. Is it a civil liberties issue?

I'll give it a whirl at some point.

HeronLanyon · 25/09/2020 23:42

I’m ignorant as to the app. It appeared on my phone. Now of o had seen anything - just anything telling me what it was how it worked and why I needed to engage with it I might just do so. As it is I’m not going to.

SoMuchToBits · 25/09/2020 23:44

No, because I don't have a smartphone.

MJMG2015 · 25/09/2020 23:48

@GenericFemalePal

It doesn’t work on my iPhone 6, which was new (to me) a year ago. Which is annoying, but I’m not upgrading just for this.
You just need to update the software to ios14.1
MJMG2015 · 25/09/2020 23:50

@Comefromaway

No because my iPhone 6 is too old.
All you need to do is update to ios14.1.
MJMG2015 · 25/09/2020 23:51

@ACautionaryTale

Nope - because I’ve had covid, I’m not scared of covid and I can’t afford to isolate if I get pinged. (Self employed)

So ignorance is bliss as far as I’m concerned

Seriously?

That's the 'I'm alright Jack' attitude that's going to see cases & deaths rising!

OldQueen1969 · 26/09/2020 00:00

Nope.

Until I'm forced.

I don't want to sleepwalk into an episode of Black Fucking Mirror thanks.

I'm following all the rules.

This is a step to far.

And I don't trust anybody involved in this kind of tech to run it honestly and impartially.

And I absolutely resent the implications of a two tier society between the haves / have nots in regard to affording the right technology, or being able to use it effectively.

Akire · 26/09/2020 00:02

My phone is to old as iPhone 6. When I try and update software from 12.4 it says it is up to date. No more software available. Presume my 2y old phone can’t cope anything more technical so they have stopped updating it

Akire · 26/09/2020 00:05

I can’t update software that doesn’t exist.

Will you be getting the track and trace app? If not, why not?
Bargebill19 · 26/09/2020 00:09

I did try. Downloaded it but it says it doesn’t work on iPhone 8plus on ios14.

So deleted it and won’t be bothering with it again.

Bargebill19 · 26/09/2020 00:11

@MJMG2015

iPhone have built in obsolescence. At a certain point the new software systems cannot be downloaded on to older technology. - this is why iPhone 6 users can’t update to ios14.

SE13Mummy · 26/09/2020 00:12

I'm very happy to check in to the occasional place i visit via a website link, by emailing in advance, my providing my number etc but I don't have my location switched on, nor do I use Bluetooth and that's not going to change right now. I teach in an SEN primary school and we all sign in electronically each morning. My phone isn't on me in class so even if the app permissions were enabled, it would be identified as being near to another bag with a colleague's phone in it. I think our school records will give a much more accurate picture of who I've been in close contact with. Likewise for my teacher DH and DC who are in Years 11 and 7.

MJMG2015 · 26/09/2020 00:15

@CornflakeMum
@Jennygentle
@Sillysop92
@Rocket1982

& anyone on an iPhone, try updating your software first.

Some people in here don't seem to know thus is the Apple/Google App, being used in many countries, not the Dominic Cummings one.

It can't trace you.
It gives you a code, you can't be identified.

The one being used in England has been configured NOT to use much battery.

I have an iPhone 6(s) I've updated to ios14.1

I was told any version of the 6 could.

Comefromaway · 26/09/2020 00:21

The 6s can update. The 6 can’t.

Bargebill19 · 26/09/2020 00:21

No, with the message the pp has - that’s it for their iPhone - they won’t be able to upgrade the operating system anymore.
The same has happened (albeit earlier) for my iPhone 3s and iPad 4th gen.
I’ve no idea why newer phone that can and do operate the uptown date software can’t actually support the App - I would suggest that it’s a glitch in the app program itself.

MJMG2015 · 26/09/2020 00:22

Oh no. If the 6 is getting that message, I don't suppose it'll be long before the 6(s) does.😢

I can't be going through the trauma of getting a new phone, especially not while this one works fine (wouldn't get it for the app, but the updates?!).

Akire · 26/09/2020 00:22

Where did you download the software from? The rest of us are obviously missing something really easy. That’s not on the software update on their iPhone menu.

Bargebill19 · 26/09/2020 00:22

@Comefromaway

Succinctly beat me!

Legoandloldolls · 26/09/2020 00:23

It takes up too room on my phone and bluetooth uses too much battery.

I'm a sahm now and with covid I barely go out, I dont stay in company of anyone for 15 minutes. Even on the school run it's just a quite exchange of civilness.

On the rare occasion I meet others for coffee I'm two metres away from other tables. I would hope I would be told directly by those I have coffee with.

It's just a shame I can only have a few apps on my android

I hadn't seen that when I posted and I was told by someone at Apple that any version of the 6 coukd update to ios14. Ckearly not.
Bargebill19 · 26/09/2020 00:24

@Akire

The app is available from the App Store.

The update to iOS 14 if supported by your phone is under software update in settings.

BF2748 · 26/09/2020 00:24

No don’t have it and don’t plan on getting it either. I trust that as I follow the safety procedures (minus the mask for medical exemption), look after my body and immune system that I’m in a strong position not to get anything. I am also one of those people that avoids going out when unwell anyway, so it’s business as usual if I feel unwell and will stay in.

I’m also not an eager beaver to sign up for my data to be handled by who knows what. Lots of things have breached GDPR already.

Akire · 26/09/2020 00:27

Thanks yes, I’ve tried but it keeps telling me
I need iOS 13. I was just asking the poster who's convinces we are all missing the obvious and not just updating. When it does NOT exist.

Dontsaykwen · 26/09/2020 00:28

@RedToothBrush what are the issues?
