I'm a teacher and Boris you have failed us

My school has no ppe, we have a cleaner wiping touch points all through the day. We have antibacterial hand-wash and sanitiser, but it still isn't compulsory for us to wear masks/face shields. Two weeks in to us starting back and I'm off sick waiting for a home test and I've been trying to get hold of one for the past 2 days and all I am getting is this. Come back later, what when I'm calling an ambulance or dead. So much for having key workers as a priority. University lecturers are making students wear masks and so are they but us teachers are being completely forgotten. If you want your children to have an education, you need to protect and look after the teachers! Boris you have failed me!

In most other countries- including third world- they have rearranged teaching to have fewer students and all wear masks or they do online teaching. They think we are completely insane.

BelleSausage · 23/09/2020 20:53

@alwayslosing

Your workplace sounds shit and are probably now breaking health and safety laws.

But this isn’t a race to the bottom. By your logic you chose that job so therefor can’t complain about how shit it is or do anything to better your situation.

Which strikes me as oddly passive for someone who comes across as aggressively as you do.

mumsneedwine · 23/09/2020 20:55

@Cookiecrisps 😂 you are so right. Except I don't go to the supermarket. I was shielding but apparently I'm now fine and can be with 2,000 people ever day or lose the job I love. I'm resigned to catching it now.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 23/09/2020 20:56

@daytripper28

t’s also highly unlikely that you caught Covid while transferring from one class to another, if you wore a mask while doing so (surely that is allowed?).

Wearing a mask protects other people, not the wearer.

NewnameNelly · 23/09/2020 20:57

@alwayslosing kind of feel you have hijacked the thread and made it about you. The majority of teachers don't want the schools to close, we want a safer working environment, like yourself. I have not been ill since Coronovirus came to the UK, I've been out every day and followed the rules to the letter. I am back in work for 2 weeks and because I'm not allowed to wear my own face mask I've paid for by the way, I am now ill and I have to isolate for 2 weeks because I can't get a test. So now my school has to pay a supply to cover me, whilst I'm off. Financially this makes no sense for the schools funding and practically this makes no sense as the pupils will have disrupted learning. Therefore, the government whose job is to govern need to step in.

Also if you don't like moaning, get off MN that's mainly what goes on here 🙄 and tbh you are moaning yourself... So go figure.

@mumsneedwine

Does it ever stop ? I was coughed on today by a disgruntled 14 year old. How many of your colleagues do that ?
That's dreadful. What happened about that?

I say a big Year 10 lad sneeze without covering his nose at all in the school canteen. It splattered everywhere.

SaltyAndFresh · 23/09/2020 20:59

alwayslosing · 23/09/2020 21:00

@BelleSausage that's lovely but I didn't complain. I simply tried to say that we are all on the same sinking ship. It's not only the teachers or doctors /nurses that are working in unsafe conditions. However they seem to shout the loudest...understandably of course as they dean with groups of people on a daily basis.

I don't complain I just get on with it keeping myself and my family safe in the process...as much as I can.

alwayslosing · 23/09/2020 21:01

@NewnameNelly Oh Gosh never meant that to happen. Sorry it's about you...the stage is yours...moan ahead. :-)

IndieTara · 23/09/2020 21:01

DD's school closed today for 2 weeks

This thread I created is about teachers, children and schools and it being an unsafe environment. If you want to talk about you, start your own thread. This is my last reply to you, I'm not feeding the troll.

Anyway getting back to the topic of this thread, the union I joined today cannot give any advice until my membership has been processed. So hopefully by the end of the week, I will have some news or no news.

OP posts:
alwayslosing · 23/09/2020 21:09

Oh really? I thought it was about you and how unsafe you feel going to work.
Your posts didn't show much empathy towards those poor children.

But then again it's all about the teachers

And with this I say : Good night 🙏🏻

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 23/09/2020 21:11

@alwayslosing

Omg get over yourselves!

You opted for a career that involves teaching a classroom full of children just as the doctors /nurses have opted for a career that involves taking care of the sick.

Why do you think you are above the rest of the population? Why do you think you need special treatment?

We are all in the same boat unfortunately.
I work for a company that couldn't care less about social distancing...masks are not worn etc. When BJ said we should work from home the management came down and said: nobody will work from home. If you don't like it you can leave or take unpaid holiday. Now all the roles in the office can be done from home however they choose to keep us as sardines in a tin.

What can be done about it? Nothing ... because In these uncertain times I need my job.

Now you are all complaining about PPE! Please if you are so nervous about catching this virus either stay at home or buy your own. Why do you need to rely on the gov to take care of each and any one of you individually?

The children need education and interaction with other children. It's unhealthy for them to stay away from education any longer.

Instead of complaining do what you chose to do at the beginning of your career and help these children get through it.

I wasn't going to join in, but this really is an excellent example of the Things Are Shit For Me So Why Shouldn't They Be Shit For You response.

Quite masterly.

mumsneedwine · 23/09/2020 21:12

@SaltyAndFresh he's been suspended for 5 days. He was upset for various reasons and I was the one who was sent to deal with it. I know he didn't mean to hurt me. And I hope he hasn't. But it's now a daily thing for staff as kids know it's there way to vent their anger. It's so sad.

mumsneedwine · 23/09/2020 21:14

@alwayslosing and if I didn't care about the kids I'd WFH. Like so many others. But I'm going in for the kids. And I'd like to keep going in. But if too many of us get sick then we will close. Fast.

NewnameNelly · 23/09/2020 21:16

Yay she's gone!🍾🥂

earthyfire · 23/09/2020 21:16

I feel sorry for the teachers and for the students. My child's school is like a prison right now. Teaches are still checking lunch boxes, going from one child to the other touching their food without sanitising in between. We've been told by our own school we aren't allowed to take our children out to view any of the schools holding open days and yet the children are sharing toilets and clubs etc with other children not in their bubble. It is all just a mess. I want to deregister my child.

BelleSausage · 23/09/2020 21:17

@alwayslosing

Hahahahahaha!

Wait, was I supposed to take your posts seriously?

alwayslosing · 23/09/2020 21:18

Well I wasn't going to respond but I got a notification...damn...you miss out the point ... unfortunately it's shit for everyone for others is worse as they have no income as they lost their jobs.
I'm not even going to bring up the hospitality staff that can't afford to pay their rent/mortgages because they don't have a job to go to.

And yet it's all about the teachers and how unsafe they feel having a job to go to

It's very sad that you lot mumsnetters don't see it. I'm tired of hearing about teachers on the radio/tv constantly. As I said before get over it.

CayrolBaaaskin · 23/09/2020 21:18

Tbh I doubt you will be dead or calling an ambulance even if u get COVID. Its more likely you will get it and show no symptoms at all than you will die.

alwayslosing · 23/09/2020 21:19

Lol maybe not @BelleSausage it's up to you
