Not all areas in UK have rising cases

If you look at this map and click "On the rise' you can see that many places are, well, not...

at least half of England (most of Scotland is though)

Just thought this was interesting. As you would think, hearing the news, everywhere was having a rise in cases.

There's a big difference in areas, not only rural / cities either, not only London but also Bristol has low numbers.

We had 3 last week, 8 this week. Still low but rising!

BoobsOnTheMoon · 22/09/2020 20:15

I'm sure I read something about Bristol not being as badly affected as a lot of cities in the first wave too, going to look it up now.

ragged · 22/09/2020 20:16

I'm in a large decline area.

RepeatSwan · 22/09/2020 20:17

The fact most of Scotland is rising and some of England is not could be linked to the fact you can get a test in Scotland and not so much in England.

I think England's figures are bullshit.

Orangeblossom7777 · 22/09/2020 20:17

That's right, I am near Bristol and it hasn't been. Not sure why. It's pretty diverse

I'm in a Derbyshire town, the figures have been steadily low in my area.

Littlemissdaredevil · 22/09/2020 20:20

I’m in Devon which is a decline area. Cornwall is up but as far as I am aware they have had a large outbreak at one factory so hopefully it can be contained

Timeforanotherusername · 22/09/2020 20:20

My area is down 60%.

Which is good.

But did everyone manage to get a test?

Thats where my concern would be with the figures. 60% drop in a week is pretty big.

Racoonworld · 22/09/2020 20:21

Ours has gone down. Was low last week and negligible this week.

Dotinthecity · 22/09/2020 20:22

It's declining in my area too.

RepeatSwan · 22/09/2020 20:22

The only things you can go on now is % positive cases and hospitalisations. Raw numbers of tests are meaningless as so few people can get them Angry

Namenic · 22/09/2020 20:23

Would people be in favour of travel restrictions between areas (eg SW, SE etc)? If quarantine was required and roadblocks. If spread was prevented, perhaps life in low incidence areas could be more normal? I think they did something similar in Australia between states

Yes but only if testing works because at the moment they are rationing tests. The areas with falling numbers are just not testing.
Lifeispassingby · 22/09/2020 20:25

It’s declining in my area supposedly but I know lots of people who have symptoms (and full on not just a little cough or slight temp) who cannot get tests so it would be declining when there are less tests being done

actiongirl1978 · 22/09/2020 20:26

That's contradictory, the ZOE app says current cases in our area are 100, they were 19 in late August.

So a huge increase. Yet this map says they are down by 1%

Not many multi generation families around Bristol etc (compared to other cities.) also unlike up north bristol is not surrounded by other cities. You have bristol and Bath and then nothing until Exeter one way or Swindon (I know its not a city but a big town) the other.
RepeatSwan · 22/09/2020 20:39

Because people with symptoms (Zoe app) can't get a test.

MsAwesomeDragon · 22/09/2020 20:42

Lots of the blue areas on that map (cases declining) are also the areas that were most difficult to get a test. If people can't get tests then of course positive results are going to decrease Hmm

Forgone90 · 22/09/2020 20:45

To be fair the zoë app hasn't helped the test situation, as it was telling people to get test for things other than the 3 main symptoms!

SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness · 22/09/2020 20:45

We are up slightly but have apparently been consistently very low.

With government blessing though - it is a research project.
Xiaoxiong · 22/09/2020 20:50

We have been very low all the way through which is so odd to me as we are v close to london and slough. My neighbour is a consultant in the local hospital and said they never had anywhere near as many patients as they expected given the population size, even back in March. No rise showing now either, nor on the Zoe app. No cases at all in my kids' school nor that I've heard in other primaries - plenty of colds though. Long may it last, I say..fingers crossed.

BoobsOnTheMoon · 23/09/2020 11:01

@Forgone90 - Cardiff, Newport and Gloucester are all within an hour's drive of Bristol Confused

SoUtterlyGroundDown · 23/09/2020 11:03

My small town hasn’t had a case for 7 weeks.

SoUtterlyGroundDown · 23/09/2020 11:04

And getting a test doesn’t seem to be a problem here, everyone I know who has needed one recently has got one within 24 houses
