Not all areas in UK have rising cases

If you look at this map and click "On the rise' you can see that many places are, well, not...

at least half of England (most of Scotland is though)

Just thought this was interesting. As you would think, hearing the news, everywhere was having a rise in cases.

There's a big difference in areas, not only rural / cities either, not only London but also Bristol has low numbers.

Hours!

@RepeatSwan

The fact most of Scotland is rising and some of England is not could be linked to the fact you can get a test in Scotland and not so much in England.

I think England's figures are bullshit.

Hmm, I reckon the fact that Scottish schools went back a month earlier than English is a likely factor in their rates raising first unfortunately

I’m in Cornwall and it’s concerning. We stayed relatively low here, even during the peak tourist season but numbers are shooting up now...

Southernsoftie76 · 23/09/2020 12:28

Cases have fallen in my area over the last week, it’s also nigh on impossible to get a test so who knows what the true figures are.

ListeningQuietly · 23/09/2020 12:30

my medium sized city has had one hospitalisation in the last three weeks
(the hospital covers over 1m people)

Covid is NOT rising everywhere

NonstopNC · 23/09/2020 12:33

The Bristol case is interesting and I don't know why it is. But since many cases in the first wave were caught inside hospitals, I do know the Bristol hospitals (at least one of them) are very hot on infection control and make abundant use of those machines that fog-clean an entire ward. I know that some of the general hospitals surrounding Bristol do not have these machines and infection control is poorer.

tootyfruitypickle · 23/09/2020 12:36

South east here and daily cases at 0 or 1 for past week, same in neighbouring boroughs. Much lower than in august.

shesellsseashells99 · 23/09/2020 12:38

2 cases here in last week.

Piixxiiee · 23/09/2020 12:41

My town is rising but slowly. But I know personally of 6 families unable to get a test so that's why the rise is so slow! The figures are not accurate to portray the rise

OldQueen1969 · 23/09/2020 12:41

My local rag has simultaneously reported 19 new cases in the county, and the news that our short sharp spike seems to be levelling out again. I'm in Bournemouth and thankful our numbers have been relatively low, but local testing has been a shambles and there are at least half a dozen schools with a case and at least three local pubs.

I honestly can't make head nor tail of it, but the over-riding message is to follow all the new rules, which I am doing of course, while wondering exactly where the heck we are in the actual scheme of things.....

madcatladyforever · 23/09/2020 12:42

Im NHS in Somerset and haven't seen any. I don't do Brsitol or Bath though.

ListeningQuietly · 23/09/2020 12:43

Tests are pretty meaningless as they do not prove illness
and the negative tests results are not being highlighted.

The whole point of the lockdown is to reduce ILLNESS
and in this part of the country, the numbers of people
ill because of COVID
are miniscule

teta · 23/09/2020 12:46

Bristol has/had a shortage of testing. 3/4 weeks ago there was no shortage in testing . My eldest walked 10 minute down the road to a walk in test site. The daily positives were going up at a steady rate. The last couple of weeks barely any numbers have been registered. I've heard it's impossible to get a test or at least this was the case a week ago.
I'm registered to 4 different areas for the covid messenger emails. Several reported days if 1 or 2 , which is just not true. The only one increasing I watch is Stockport, where I suspect as it's a 'red' area there is still some testing going on. Although even this was not going up at such a fast pace as before, due to most likely some testing shortage.
The current testing members have been totally inaccurate for the last couple of weeks.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 23/09/2020 12:58

My rural area of Scotland isn’t rising

gnushoes · 23/09/2020 13:07

The Zoe app was trying to establish whether symptoms outside the main 3 known ones are Covid - it asked me to go for a test last week. No chance, so it's missed a research opportunity.

GreyishDays · 23/09/2020 13:21
@Forgone90 - Cardiff, Newport and Gloucester are all within an hour's drive of Bristol Confused
Interesting looking at population density for England. Bristol and environs looks kind of medium at a quick glance.

Not all areas in UK have rising cases
MarshaBradyo · 23/09/2020 13:24

Good map. London is bluer than I thought it’d be.

BunsyGirl · 23/09/2020 13:26

Cases have slightly increased in the area that I live in but there is no change in the adjoining area (where I work and my kids go to school). Both are below national average.

movingonup20 · 23/09/2020 13:27

@Orangeblossom7777

Bristol is rising though more in some areas. In n Somerset the medium rising figure disguises a higher rise in one part (Weston super mare). Lots of schools closed bubbles this week which won't be in those figures. Don't be complacent.

I'm hoping all the second home and boat owners will now go home, it's quiet here once they go

vodkaredbullgirl · 23/09/2020 13:30

Somerset is low

managingmyaelf · 23/09/2020 13:31

.

TeddyIsaHe · 23/09/2020 13:32

We had 15 cases last week and 8 this week. Our local paper keeps writing editorials about how we should be exempt from lockdown Hmm

mumwon · 23/09/2020 14:15

Sorry but I think the term is - Yet
& as pp said tests are difficult to get & its been suggested that the areas where there are lower numbers have less chance of getting tested
But I suspect its linked to transport, size of towns & networks

herecomesthsun · 23/09/2020 14:24

@Southernsoftie76

Ditto (though we did eventually get a test). It is a Cloud of Unknowing. I find it very unsettling (though of course I really sympathise for people in other areas and we are very lucky that cases are low locally).
Timekeepspassing · 23/09/2020 14:30

Also live in a small city (not Bristol) but a very densely populated city. Our cases are still low, not as good as in the summer, but also down on last week. Not sure how much is to do with the inability to get tested. Of course we need to be careful but hopefully if we can keep the numbers down, we won’t have to go further with a full national lockdown and the winter will be more bearable.
