"It'll all be over by Christmas"

How can people trust Boris again now? This was only recently as well and originally he said it'll be over in 12 weeks.

We can't trust what he says, can we?

😂 you can’t trust any of them.

IHTC · 22/09/2020 13:23

Absolutely not and it's nothing new. They're all a bunch of pillocks!

Swifey40 · 22/09/2020 13:24

Don't be so ridiculous! It's a virus, it spreads! Most people are idiots and don't adhere to rules and just do what they want. It 'may' have been much better by Christmas but people don't think the rules apply to them and then moan.

NiknicK · 22/09/2020 13:24

To be honest I thought it would be over by Christmas too. Obviously looking back I was very naive and maybe a bit of wishful thinking. I don’t like the man not one bit but I guess none of seen this coming and how severe it would become.

Derbygerbil · 22/09/2020 13:25

There are many on here who’ve confidently told us it was all over in July and that the U.K. had herd immunity and that all those who would die, have died!

The virus wasn't going anyway but these measures now are in large part down to poor government messaging aligned with the dreadful failures over testing. We knew from the start testing was key to getting some form of grip over Covid.

We can't just blame the public for this or young people.

The NHS have been stockpiling mass flu vaccines for months for the winter knowing what was coming. The virus weakening in the summer was half expected - given all the restrictions as well - but of course it was always likely to come back with a vengeance once schools came back, the flu season started and people let their guard down. That's what corona viruses do every year.

Covid 19 was never just going to disappear and we know how infectious it is. Look at the billions being thrown at a vaccine and how much we've been desperate to get the Oxford vaccine going. You don't do that if you expect a virus to vanish by Christmas.

Loads of people who went on holidays did it because they wanted to enjoy a bit of the summer knowing what was coming in the winter.

Another thread stirring up dividing I see OP. Is this your full time job or do you just have nothing better to do with your time?

A lot of people come on this site for support and a breather from the scaremongering doom and gloom media but a lot of the threads on these boards recently are bun fights caused by posters like you with an agenda

mediumperiperi · 22/09/2020 13:51

The scientists and Boris have now said assume restrictions will be for around another 6 months which is a reasonable guess imo

He was stupid to say that he thought things would go to normal by Mother's Day/12weeks/Xmas... because nobody can possibly predict the future. I don't blame him that things aren't normal now but for someone who allegedly has the IQ to go to Oxford, he really needs to learn to think before he speaks.

Quaagars · 22/09/2020 13:55

We can't trust what he says, can we?

I'm not particularly a Boris fan, but how can he know? You sound like he has a crystal ball and can decide to let the virus go on holiday for a bit so we can enjoy Christmas!

Yes, this OP just this morning started a pro-Boris thread.
lynsey91 · 22/09/2020 13:57

I never thought things would be anything like normal by Christmas. When he said it I actually laughed.

I don't see how anyone if they really thought about it would have thought that was likely.

It's possible things might be able to start returning to a somewhat normal next Spring but not before. Of course things will be worse in autumn and winter with flu and the virus

onedayinthefuture · 22/09/2020 14:26

In Wuhan, nightlife has fully resumed www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/nightclubs-wuhan-packed-coronavirus-epicentre-22712888.amp

I know I know they had the strictest lockdown but even after that, there were spikes over the summer..... but now nightclubs are heaving and they're having pool parties?

Quartz2208 · 22/09/2020 14:26

Did anyone ever trust Boris. Anyone who saw him during Brexit surely realised he just says what he thinks people want/need to hear in order to further his career

Quartz2208 · 22/09/2020 14:31

if one was a conspiracy theorist @onedayinthefuture (and I am not as it happens) one might think that the Chinese created it in a lab released it took just enough damage to convince the world and then promptly vaccinated everyone in their country to take the rest of the world down!

Dee1975 · 22/09/2020 14:39

Pretty sure covid didn’t deliver its strategy to boris at the beginning of this. It’s a moving thing. Science and stats change every day. So the government has to act accordingly.

I know people will argue about their severe lockdown, their first class testing BUT we know you can't eradicate this virus and until a vaccine is ready (which it seems the world are holding their breath for sometime early next year) why would they allow such events to happen with the risk it could all become out of control again? Something doesn't add up but I'm pleased to see people enjoying themselves regardless.
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 22/09/2020 14:47

Because they have a functional mass testing system and no know cases of transmission in the area, oneday. It's the difference between a no covid policy and a just lowering the cases then get everything back up and moving again policy.

You can get out and do whatever you like if there's no known Covid in the area and any spikes that do occur from being brought in from outside can be swiftly dealt with if they are caught quickly.

Quartz2208 · 22/09/2020 14:57

In all seriousness they have actually begun a vaccination programme

meeeeeeeeeeee · 22/09/2020 15:30

he didnt say which Christmas! Grin

knittingaddict · 22/09/2020 15:42

Boris said the virus would be gone by Christmas? Did he? I don't remember that. I remember him saying things would be back to something resembling normal by Christmas. Though that was a lie at the time.

PinkMacaron · 22/09/2020 15:42

Why did anyone ever trust Boris about anything? If he's not breaking international law to renege on binding agreements, he's promising shit he can't deliver. Worst Prime Minister in living memory; maybe amongst the worst ever.

toolatetooearly · 22/09/2020 16:13

When he said "it'll all be over by Christmas", he meant the human race.

He naively assumed people would have the sense to comply with the rules (in which case he may have been right as we could have driven the R rate down very low).
