So cross about testing times

My DC developed a cough and temp of 38.8 on Thursday. Got a test Saturday and still not received results. My kids now missed 3 days of school, swimming lessons, football match, music lessons and tennis lessons. They are miserable and miss their friends.

I joke about having to homeschool, but it’s not too bad. But what upsets me the most is the impact on my kids mental and emotional welfare. It’s not ok! The whole point of testing surely is to get a quick result so that if it’s positive there is a quick response. I don’t call 6 days a quick response!!!!!

Sorry I’m just ranting and people in RL have heard it all so needed somewhere new to rant.

Oh and I’m supposed to be working today, I am a key worker working with vulnerable people so now not doing that job. It’s a joke.

No one I know can get a test so they have to isolate for 14 days!

Flower262 · 22/09/2020 07:39

I think the waiting time for results at the moment is looooong

bellinisurge · 22/09/2020 07:40

I had a nightmare getting the test. So stressful. Result came quickly. That was the beginning of last week.
Seems like they are sorting the "getting a test" thing but still fucking up the "getting a result " thing.
Useless twats. They've had six fucking months to get this in place.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 22/09/2020 07:46

It hasn’t been 6 days since you tested. It’s barely been four.

And, to be honest, if your children had a temperature of 38.8C and a cough in normal circumstances, would you really be sending them to school, swimming, football, etc? I’m sure, whatever the cause, everyone else would rather not catch it.

I really don’t think missing three days of school and a few weekend activities is going to have any long-term detrimental effects on anyone’s mental health.

WhatDoIDooDIoDtahW · 22/09/2020 07:50

I had a test on Thursday at 4pm... I’m still waiting on results. I’ve rang 119, who gave me the number to the welsh health board, who gave me the number to some sort of hospital who wasn’t even sure why they gave me their number as they have nothing to do with testing.

Absolutely useless, so annoyed as it means my other half is also off work and the first 3days of that are unpaid, we just can’t afford it since my maternity ended and I haven’t got another job yet.

OhDear2200 · 22/09/2020 07:54

Really? So no temp by Friday you wouldn’t send your kids to school on Monday or football on Sunday?

Yes normally I would say it’s only 3 days. But it’s not is it? They have not had sport or music for 6 months only just got them up and running again. They have legitimate reasons to feel upset.

@ItsGoingTibiaK also if you hadn’t notice they have missed 4 months of school already.
@ItsGoingTibiaK also if you hadn’t notice they have missed 4 months of school already.
Yes. I have two school-age children. As do millions of others. And we had to isolate and test last week for a cough. Missed school. Missed weekend activities. Missed my daughter’s planned birthday activities. My key-worker partner was off off work. I’m a freelancer and had to turn down paid work. Got a negative test result and everyone’s back now. No ranting. No hyperbolic posts on MN. No impact on anyone’s emotional and mental welfare. Just getting on with life.

OhDear2200 · 22/09/2020 08:33

@ItsGoingTibiaK ha ha ha, not ranting on MN???? It would make a very quiet forum and dull.

So yes I will rant when my child’s mental health is effected because unlike many other countries our government has not got a good TTT system in place.

Why read the thread if it annoys you so much?

Also it is 6 days because we were trying to get a test on Thursday couldn’t get one until Sat. So 6 days since symptoms.

It's bollocks. It's not like school starting in September and all the coughs and colds were a bloody surprise. They had 6 months to plan for this and did fuck all. It's a disgraceful government.

Char2015 · 22/09/2020 08:56

@ItsGoingTibiaK

Good for you that you are "just getting on with life".
Unfortunately, many children and adults are not able to just get on with life during this time, as the impact of the past few months has just been too much for them.

Your quote "I really don’t think missing three days of school and a few weekend activities is going to have any long-term detrimental effects on anyone’s mental health"

You clearly need educating on mental health.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 22/09/2020 08:57

I've just waited 6 days for a test result for DS. On day four of waiting a member of school staff tested positive and his year group sent home to isolate. In total that will mean two weeks off school already this term. I'm part time furloughed at the moment and can work from home but when furlough ends and I'm back full time I'm going to have to make a choice between working to pay the bills and resigning as my work will not be able to pay me for taking endless weeks off whenever a child has a cough.

WhatDoIDooDIoDtahW · 22/09/2020 09:44

So I’ve rang 119, I wasn’t given a barcode receipt for my test and it hasn’t been registered. Test doesn’t exist, I’m not getting results. Fuming

Flower262 · 22/09/2020 10:25

I’ve just called 119 and they said my barcode had my details entered incorrectly and they had now updated and I would get the results immediately... waited 15mins called back and they said no that’s not correct, maybe my details were wrong but there is no immediately about it and they would hope I would get my results by 5pm (48hrs) if not get in touch tomorrow morning...

That is frustrating OP. My son had a test yesterday and we already got the results back so they only missed one day of school. Was yours a home kit test or a drive though? Ours was a drive through.

OhDear2200 · 22/09/2020 10:53

Drive through. Going to call today as they said call after 72 hours.

Longdistance · 22/09/2020 11:02

You should get it today. We had ours Thursday, got our results Sunday morning at 4am 🥴
It’s a crock of shit. I’d have thought they’d let you know ASAP if it was positive, well, you’d hope so.

chickenyhead · 22/09/2020 11:07

How on earth did you manage to get a test. Bit jealous of those waiting for results, because I cannot get one despite constantly refreshing.

So we seem to be off for 2 weeks. Which is crap, but the schools will not have them back without the test. So it is what it is.

Stop moaning, you are luckier than many.

Y

mildlymiffed · 22/09/2020 11:22

Don't stop moaning. Moan loudly- and moan to your MP. This farcical system of not being able to get tested and then the results taking an age has to stop.

People cannot continue on this rollercoaster indefinitely if the testing mechanisms are not adequate.

Hate the put up and shut up mentality of some on here.

Dustballs · 22/09/2020 11:34

Rant away OP.

It’s what we’re here for isn’t it?

Always bemuses me that people want a silent forum. Or a sort of pretend positive one.

Why do they bother coming here?

WhatDoIDooDIoDtahW · 22/09/2020 11:48

Managed to get lucky and get another test much closer to home this time.. got to leave in half an hour 😪

tryingmybest29 · 22/09/2020 12:15

Had a test Sunday and still waiting here op! Hope you get them soon!
