Covid: Pubs and restaurants in England to have 10pm closing times www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-54242634

So covid only comes out after 10 now! I don't actually see how this will make a difference as the half drunks will
Just move onto a house and won't care because they are half drunk (or drunk if they started early!)

OP posts:
Stormwhale · 21/09/2020 22:39

Yep. Its fucking stupid.

Racoonworld · 21/09/2020 22:49

Well it will stop the clubs that have been pretending to be bars opening until 3 or 4 in the morning with crowds of drunk people packed in. Also restricted to table service only will be a good thing

mediumperiperi · 21/09/2020 23:00

People will drink faster or arrive earlier

SeekingCoffee33 · 21/09/2020 23:02

It won’t stop them. It feels like lip service

Rosehip10 · 21/09/2020 23:05

pointless

halcyondays · 21/09/2020 23:06

I’m pretty sure that’ll still give enough time for people to get drunk and forget about SDing and go on a pub crawl spreading the virus to more people.

Akire · 21/09/2020 23:10

Feels like a whole lot of effort to close pubs what from 12h a day to 11. Big wow. How many people are going to pubs on a daily/weekly/monthly basis to have an effect? Might as well close all takeaways so people are not standing in the queue for McDonald’s for a few mowers minutes. That’s got to have more effect.

HeresMe · 21/09/2020 23:16

Pubs restaurants been open since beginning of July, but now it's pubs and restaurants fault after eat out to help out.

Goverment are making it up as they go.

Howslifenow · 21/09/2020 23:36

Just to show they are doing something.

Itsabeautifuldayheyhey · 22/09/2020 00:37

Pubs weren't just restricted to table service though were they? If pubs and restaurants can only provided table service, must shut at 10 p.m. (to stop clubs pretending to be pubs and giving people less time to get drunk) and police patrol them to check social-distancing is in operation, then I think it could work.

toolatetooearly · 22/09/2020 00:44

Suits me, I can still go out Friday as planned

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 22/09/2020 05:47

After the speeches yesterday I was thinking they were preparing us for lockdown.

Is this it!?!?

Attictroll · 22/09/2020 05:57

First reaction when I saw the news was is that it...all this fuss and horrible predictions and we are closing pubs early. Ffs totally over this government. I don’t want tightened rules but want people to be safe as well.
Nonsense

molifly14 · 22/09/2020 06:12

Is that it? What a load of fuss over absolutely nothing

RepeatSwan · 22/09/2020 06:14

Read today they were going to do more but Johnson bottled it. What a surprise.

Not sure why he thinks he's the second Churchill Angry

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 22/09/2020 06:15

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 22/09/2020 06:16

Have a look at the figures, deaths and hospital admissions are still VERY LOW
FatGirlShrinking · 22/09/2020 06:31

According to the telegraph, it will be

  • pubs to close at 10pm
  • pubs/hospitality to offer table service only, no ordering at the bar or standing about in groups
  • PM to tell everyone to work from home if you can
  • re-issuing 'Hands, Face, Space' guidance
PineappleUpsideDownCake · 22/09/2020 06:31

There's cases in the schools near me so think transmission is happeming. If it weren't for kids we'd stay home for winter!'I hate the thought they might think they killed me if they bring it home.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 22/09/2020 06:32

FatGirl thats realky nothing isnt it :(

Its going to soar. Maybe they're waiting for it to rise before the next stage.

Hotmilkandhoney · 22/09/2020 06:34

It’s pathetic

If you are high risk speak to the head about staying home?

I don't see why people have to put up with this.

The bloody mask refusers and space invaders and 'just crack on' lot don't do what they are told do they?

RoseAndRose · 22/09/2020 06:38

It's the warning shot before pubs close altogether.

We can mock it or heed it.

And some pubs were definitely troublesome, and became increasingly more so as clients became more inebriated.
