Bloody panic buying- again !

Do people never learn? A few of my friends said that they couldn’t buy pasta or toilet rolls today because people have been ‘stocking up ‘ 🙄 . Another friend who works in a supermarket said she’s seen loads of trolleys being filled up with loo rolls.

What is the bloody matter with people?

Oh dear.

LivingIsHard · 21/09/2020 18:43

Fuckers. No fucking shops will close. Absolute fucking idiots.

Shitfuckoh · 21/09/2020 18:46

Lots online out of stock too (I get my shopping home delivery)

No panic buying here although I do keep the cupboards etc stocked anyway.

It is possible that people are buying things just in case they need to isolate for 14 days.

Shepherdspyreads · 21/09/2020 18:48

Sorry but as far as I'm concerned you posting this is as bad if not worse than people actually doing it. Do you not understand reading that there is panic buying (whether or not it's actually true) just makes people who read it more likely to buy a bit extra too.

Frazzled13 · 21/09/2020 18:48

Being charitable, some might be people who’ve seen the fiasco of the testing system and are now realising (especially if they have kids at school) it’s not actually at all unlikely they’ll have to isolate for 14 days at some point.

Crystalknobs · 21/09/2020 18:49

I doubt it, having to possibly isolate has been a probability for a while now , it must be because everyone is expecting another lockdown.

Starting a thread about it will make the kind of people who panic buy rush out to the supermarkets tonight.

Paranoidmarvin · 21/09/2020 18:54

Damn right I am. I am wheat and dairy free. Last time this happened. People stripped the free from aisle as there was not stuff left in the normal aisle. I ended up with nothing to eat. I have rice milk. Have always been able to get it. The shelves were empty. All the idiots who could have milk took the rice milk so they could store it. Bet they didn’t have it either.

So yes. I will be stocking up on my food before I go hungry again.

Tell that to the papers Hmm my friend has gone "to stock up" straight after work purely from a headline in the Fail.
dewisant2020 · 21/09/2020 18:56

It really annoys me, supermarkets need to take the responsibility this time, they knew what happened last time and they are letting it happen again

ChaChaCha2012 · 21/09/2020 19:01

I have a limited diet, and last time really struggled to get the foods I am able to eat. I'm stocking up on essentials, although they don't include pasta so plenty left for you.

I've been in three supermarkets and all had plenty of toilet roll. Maybe don't believe everything people tell you? It is people like you that create the panic, not those stocking up on a few extras.

catscatscatseverywhere · 21/09/2020 19:03

What? Nooo, not this madness again. I hope people who are stockpiling on loo roll will have a diarrhea of a lifetime.

Paranoidmarvin · 21/09/2020 19:04

@ChaChaCha2012 yup. I’m not going hungry again for someone who could literally eat anything in the shop compared to my 8 things. Tell me in stockpiling and I’m causing the problem I don’t really care. You try stretching out a pack of gluten free sausages that have eight in them for two weeks.

Namechanger20183110 · 21/09/2020 19:06

The supermarkets are as bad as the media for encouraging this. what business did they have to notify customers that "slots are filling up"? That was completely fabricated and done for the sole purpose to cause panic, knowing full well it would make it to the media. Tesco's sales in March were as high as their sales at Xmas. Think about that for a second. They will have had their best year on record, I guarantee that. They want Joe Public to panic buy. It would not at all surprise me in the slightest if they tell their staff to not fill up the shelves when re-stocking them,so that they become emptier faster - creating the opportunity for wonderful pictures in the paper of "empty shelves".

Crystalknobs · 21/09/2020 19:12

I have asked for the thread to be deleted, I don’t want to be responsible for people not being able to wipe their bums or more seriously people with restricted diets not being able to eat.

Well so sorry but I'm one of the 'fucking idiots' only I see it as planning ahead. I'm buying extra online, and will continue to do so, tinned stuff, pasta, long life milk, sugar, flour and other non perishables I do not want to be going into supermarkets being breathed and coughed over by people getting too close in the winter. We have probably a no deal Brexit and continuing Covid 19 to look forward to but we could also be in for a horrendous winter weather wise if 2020 continues on its jolly trajectory of throwing the worst at us!!

But before the last few weeks tests were easy to get. I had my pick of slots when arranging one for DD a couple of months ago, and when arranging one for DH last month. Now they’re impossible to get
Shepherdspyreads · 21/09/2020 19:37

Sorry op feel a bit harsh now it's just frustrating seeing it knowing it contributes to panic, obviously realise that wasn't your intention!

Triangularbubble · 21/09/2020 19:37

More toilet roll in my local Tesco than I’ve ever seen in my life. Huge pallets nearly blocking the aisles. Possibly a reduced range compared to pre pandemic but still loads available. Also loads on amazon. So much pasta they’re selling it off reduced on clearance. If there are shortages it’s local/regional not national.

cologne4711 · 21/09/2020 19:58

Someone had posted a photo of their bike and trailer on Twitter with a huge amount of loo roll and what looked like (a lot of) tins in it. The picture was meant to be a good thing (look at me with my bike being eco-friendly) but I did really wonder about all the loo roll!

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 21/09/2020 20:50

Loads of pasta in one of the local tescos tonight

500g Packs discounted To 37p

Id have bought a few but didn’t want people to think i was panic buying

Flour was fully stocked and loads of bog roll

Paranoidmarvin · 21/09/2020 21:18

Just got back from my Tesco. No loo roll. So yes it has started. And no I didn’t stock up on loo roll. Just my food.

IHaveBrilloHair · 21/09/2020 21:22

I've bought a months worth of loo roll and cat food.
I have plenty of food in, I have a huge freezer.
Each week I'll buy a normal amount of stuff but the back up is there
I don't see anything wrong with it.

Kisforkaylied · 21/09/2020 21:24

Yes! I've been building up quite a little stash of my preferred brand of almond milk since I got stung in the first round of panic buying and couldn't have a hot drink for 3 days!
gamerchick · 21/09/2020 21:28

Why toilet roll? It completely boggles my head that toilet roll is the must have for panic buying.

Toilet roll! Weird shit man.
