Do we think gyms are going to close again?

Simple yes or no will do, it's only my mortgage and feeding my kids that I'm starting to worry about 🙈 think that announcement that's coming from Boris is going to be the final nail for a lot of businesses (and yes I know the numbers need to come down but I'm starting to worry a bit about my own family)

Yes

Dancingalong · 21/09/2020 11:48

No, I really really hope not anyway.

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 21/09/2020 11:50

I hope not. I am in an area with low numbers of cases. The gym I'm visiting has worked hard to make it safe and very few people are in there for most of the day. It has given my mental health a huge boost to go there in the last few weeks and that has to matter too. I also think it's economic suicide to close things like this unless in certain hot spots. And even then, unless we specifically know cases are being spread in gyms, they should stay open.

Any measures taken need to be localised, otherwise we're inflicting harm unnecessarily.

AriettyHomily · 21/09/2020 11:50

Unfortunately yes I think so. Mine has only just reopened gahhhhhhh

Yetiyoga · 21/09/2020 11:50

I am no expert but I have a feeling that things will remain open but we have to do them with our household bubble. Maybe pubs will shut but maybe just a curfew. No socialising and see where we are in 2 weeks.

Southernsoftie76 · 21/09/2020 11:51

Yes.

Orangeblossom7777 · 21/09/2020 11:52

I hope not.

MrMeeseekscando · 21/09/2020 11:52

Please no Sad
I've lost a stone and a half, I'm fitter than I've ever been

Elephant75 · 21/09/2020 11:53

I hope not.

LolaLollypop · 21/09/2020 11:54

No. I think they will allow any business/workplace that’s “Covid-secure” to stay open. Where people can safely distance and use hygiene measure etc.
I think pubs will take a bit as sadly it’s impossible to regulate restrictions when people drink.

Siennabear · 21/09/2020 11:55

There’s no evidence it spreads in gyms? Mine is very hot on cleaning and everything distanced, limited numbers etc.i thought the biggest risk was households mixing indoors.

IcedPurple · 21/09/2020 11:57

They may close regionally, but not nationally I don't think. Or they might introduce restrictions such as no classes.

Spodge · 21/09/2020 11:57

I've just emailed my MP to point out that I do not support the imposition of any blanket restrictions on any area of our economy. The areas that currently have a low incidence should continue staying open. I pointed out that exercise confers huge benefits on both physical and mental health and closing gyms and swimming pools indiscriminately would be a huge backwards top.

Deux · 21/09/2020 11:57

I hope not as I’ve never been fitter or stronger also. Mine has done a brilliant job and reopened as soon as it was able to. They’ve just started up the racquet courts.

I don’t think it’ll be a blanket closure. Maybe just in hotspot areas. It would make more sense to limit mixing in pubs Or close pubs. It seems ridiculous to close a gym but you can go out to the pub with 5 mates.

Laufeythejust · 21/09/2020 11:58

I really hope not. I’m still working from home and the gym is my only escape- I’m often the only person in the ladies bit and I wipe down everything. If the gyms are ordered to close but pubs stay open I’ll be fuming.

Quartz2208 · 21/09/2020 11:58

No I think Chris Whitty made it clear that the balance with the economy means that things that drive the economy and follow covid "secure" rules will be ok

It is very much going to be limiting households mixing and curfews etc. Clubs definitely will take a hit. Pubs I think will only be for food serving

Autumnsthemostwonderfultime · 21/09/2020 11:59

I hope not. Gyms are quite controlled environments.

I don't think we are having big outbreaks in gyms that I know of.

AuntieMarys · 21/09/2020 12:00

I hope not.

SingToTheSky · 21/09/2020 12:10

I think business things will be kept open as much as possible. I really really hope gyms don’t close, I’ve built up a good routine now and we are just getting to the part of the year when my already crap MH gets a lot worse - having set sessions booked was one way of making sure I don’t become a hermit so I’d hate for that to stop. But I do think it’s unlikely and a last resort.

toodlepipsqueaks · 21/09/2020 12:11

Tricky one. In the last few weeks we've been looking round a few with a view to joining. The first two we looked around at a fairly quiet time of day and all seemed fine. The last one we tried out a session on a weekday evening and I'm really sorry to say that it was the most on edge I've felt in recent times, compared with, for instance, eating in a restaurant 😔 lots of people in a very enclosed space, panting (naturally - not sure what you can do about that), not all using the wipes. I was surprised at how I felt about it and a bit disappointed because I really do want it to work out for them.

Jessuk86 · 21/09/2020 12:17

I hope not my DH has just paid for my membership a year upfront For my bday present as I’ve been dying to get back into classes etc will be gutted if it closes x

Sooverthemill · 21/09/2020 12:21

Yes. Everything will close

IcedPurple · 21/09/2020 12:32

@Sooverthemill

Yes. Everything will close
On what do you base that?

"Everything" didn't close even during the full lockdown.

dementedpixie · 21/09/2020 12:34

No. Is there any evidence that it has spread through them? Mine just reopened last week (scotland)

Sooverthemill · 21/09/2020 12:49

@IcedPurple I mean every thing that reopened after lockdown will lose again. So just essential shops and services. And I am predicting that based on my understanding of what the scientists are telling us and what the PM will finally have to accept that he lifted lockdown too soon. It is my opinion. I am not the PM
