Do we think gyms are going to close again?

Simple yes or no will do, it's only my mortgage and feeding my kids that I'm starting to worry about 🙈 think that announcement that's coming from Boris is going to be the final nail for a lot of businesses (and yes I know the numbers need to come down but I'm starting to worry a bit about my own family)

I hope not, see also also swimming pools. Going swimming again has done me so much good mentally and physically.

PilatesPeach · 21/09/2020 15:14

Gyms are covid secure businesses everyone is working out at a minimum of 2 metres apart with scrupulous cleaning all the time - I work at 6 of them - evidence does not show gyms spreading covid see my post above with recent stats - evidence shows household transmissions where people are mixing - not saying I don't want to see other people socially, just that the evidence is suggesting social interactions are big spreaders not gyms.

They also provide work to loads of employed and self-employed. If the statistics show gyms to be responsible for the spread, fair enough but they just do not.

It would be a silly move to close the gyms, research has shown gyms are almost risk free environments. We are trying to encourage people to stay healthy, both mentally and physically and gyms play a massive part in it

Glittertwins · 21/09/2020 15:31

I'm hoping they are not closed. Gyms/pools/sports centres have done lots of risk assessments and processes are in place to keep a good distance so I think they will remain open.

Dr Fauci says bars, indoor dining and gyms should be closed. That’s good enough for me. As people are mainly contracting it airborne, gyms can hose down with disinfectant every five minutes and it wouldn’t make any difference. I understand why businesses do it, and it’s just good practice anyway, but it is hygiene grandstanding when it comes to Corona. No amount of cleaning can mitigate a person who is infectious heavy breathing in the same room as you.

No

PilatesPeach · 21/09/2020 16:02

Evidence does not support closure. 0.34 cases per 100,000 at gyms, national average - England - 30 cases per 100,000.

Gyms should not be lumped in with all other leisure - leisure is a broad category - not all leisure is same risk.

People going on gyms should close need to look at the stats not just sound off because they think they are dangerous or because they don't go or don't think gyms are important.

Leaked document - but seems like it's issues to thrash out and it was in relation to Scotland.

Do we think gyms are going to close again?
NotAKaren · 21/09/2020 16:35

That suggests pretty much a lockdown

Quartz2208 · 21/09/2020 16:41

It say it COULD include some of the following not that it will.

Autumnsthemostwonderfultime · 21/09/2020 16:55

Do we really believe that's an official leaked document?

megletthesecond · 21/09/2020 17:40

If they close gyms maybe they'll get their act together with properly distanced outdoor classes.
I tried one and it was a shambles. Crammed us all into an area the size of a tennis court instead of making use of the whole enclosed field.

480Widdio · 21/09/2020 17:51

No the gyms won’t close again,at least not now,who knows what is going to happen in the coming months.

I belong to David Lloyd,it has been quiet since it reopened.I cannot see them surviving another lockdown.

BogRollBOGOF · 21/09/2020 18:00

Not a hotspot for virus transmission (and people are more likely to avoid if they are under the weather anyway)
Of benefit to public health
Not worth the financial risk of trashing the industry.

The benefits are very strong.

Itsabeautifuldayheyhey · 21/09/2020 18:01

No.

RJnomore1 · 21/09/2020 18:06
