Chris Whitty to hold briefing tomorrow

According to sky news, Chris Witty is to hold a briefing tomorrow and will not be joined by any members of the cabinet or Boris Johnson and won't take questions. He will apparently discuss different scenarios.

Does that sound odd to anyone else and does this maybe mean no further restrictions this week, let's just try and scare us all into being good instead?

@Polkadotties. Yes 200 a day in a month. He clearly needed a sixth month graph as lots of people seem incapable of understanding (perhaps through wilful ignorance?) that it doesn't magically stop doubling when the graph ends.

I feel like we are back in March again. I don't want to send my kids to school, I don't want to have to risk them. I want to keep us all safe in our bubble.

@baytreetavern is right though, everyone of us will have a reason why we can’t stick to the rules.

It’s awful, more awful for some, but as CW said, we collectively need to try to stop the spread.

I'm surprised they are still pushing the 'its only people meeting family that are causing it' though tbh.

It was clear from the graph they showed that the highest increases have been in young adults... I wonder who is more likely to go to things like pubs etc... 🤔

It's like when you were a kid and asked your parents if you could do X, then they seemed to have a memory lapse and go mental at you later for doing X. Maybe just my parents though Grin

MarshaBradyo, I'm in the NE England so currently enjoying the inconsistencies of local lockdowns, hurrah.

A vaccine next year is all well and good but I could very well be dead by then if they continue to force us to send our children to school. I should not be in this position. I should not have to choose between my health and my childrens places at school. It is awful and I can't cope anymore.

I dont want to send mine to school either. They're trying to "reassure" us that schools will stay open but that's my most likely way of catching it.

I feel differently to March

I was more reticent about school back then.

Now I’m glad they are trying to keep them open

I personally don’t think another six months of a semi-lockdown would be that difficult, and I have a 3yr old and a 7 month old!! As long as things don’t go back to the March/April levels of restriction when we had NOTHING open and weren’t allowed to see anyone, it’s bearable enough.
As long as my daughter can go to nursery, that saves my sanity midweek. The parks and play areas are open, swimming pools are open, cinemas are open. I don’t think these businesses will be asked to close. We will still be able to go for meals as a family etc.

I think they’ll put restrictions on groups, maybe back to the rule of only seeing one other person outside etc. Not ideal for winter but again, manageable. Walks with the grandparents etc.

If you’re high risk and shielding then obviously things will be much tougher and I really feel for anyone who has to do this, especially my with kids.

It's put me back on the ''Don't send him'' train of thought regarding my youngest - who was due to have his preschool visit this week. I'd already rearranged twice due to 1) being so unsure and 2) he had a really bad cold.

Other 2 in school but sending youngest means our 'contacts' go up even more.

It is horrible , but I'm not surprised. The NHS can't cope during a normal winter and flu season let alone this as well.
It must be demoralizing for the staff and only to hear people carping on about it all being rubbish must make it even worse.
It's a tough call as to what to do isn't it?
Especially as without an economy there might not even be an NHS!

Yes I could do a lockdown from school again. The kids would be sad if school closed but they would adjust and it would be preferable to getting sick. It sounds like the vaccine isn’t far off now

I was really anxious in March. Pulled them out early. I actually really regret that for the then year10 child as he missed a test.

Since then I’ve tried to read studies and hang out a lot on the Graphs thread. I get admonished when I talk about studies too much ; but they have helped calm that anxiety. Plus Ds is much happier in than out and it’s a balance of risk.

I don't think I was callous. You have no idea what I'm also going through. I still don't consider myself special.

I don’t think we will get a lockdown. But I think it will be limiting house hold mixing.

The older generations I think will be asked to sadly lockdown further - as they are the most at risk. I think it’s the 22 year old catching it mildly, but then popping over to see their Nanna......

My MIL has said the statement - My grandkids are trying to kill me...so we sadly haven’t seen her since New Year - her choice. She is at 76 very isolated already and when pops to the shop or visiting tea shops the one shouting at anyone that doesn’t wear a mask. She has already had a bad argument with a family at the beach - the little girl was dancing around and got to close to her - she screamed at the mother to control her child as she could give her Covid.

It’s going to cause ripples...,the older generation blaming the younger and the younger paying the economic price to protect them.

....and this is mixed into the existing situation where often older people are seen as privileged because so many are homeowners compared to younger people who have been excluded from the housing ladder

Those who don't seem to have a good grasp of the facts do seem to have seized upon it somewhat.

Homes Under The Hammer, Gogglebox and Local ITV news need to do segments explaining how exponential curves work.

Because he’s got no integrity. People keep saying about how uncomfortable he looks when BJ is talking, how he doesn’t believe in what they’re doing etc. If I was so at odds with what my employer was bulldozing through in an emergency I’d quit, not stand there looking uncomfortable. And he can take that idiot Harries with him as well.

Better to stay and try and influence than flounce off in a huff.

I won't walk away. I don't have much choice at the moment DH was made redundant in July because of covid so I can absolutely see the other side too.
That said, I still think we need to bring in more restrictions. The alternative would be utterly horrific.

I'm very fortunate to have a job at the moment. It is just very draining. We all know what to expect now and it almost makes it worse. I'm still traumatised by April and May and just feel dread tbh.
Thank you for your kind words and I hope you're right. I hope the majority behave and it is just that the minority or more vocal.Flowers
