Chris Whitty to hold briefing tomorrow

molifly14 · 20/09/2020 22:09

According to sky news, Chris Witty is to hold a briefing tomorrow and will not be joined by any members of the cabinet or Boris Johnson and won't take questions. He will apparently discuss different scenarios.

Does that sound odd to anyone else and does this maybe mean no further restrictions this week, let's just try and scare us all into being good instead?

'Just a quick read of threads on here shows how an Idiots Guide to Pandemics, which is obviously what Whitty and Valance are doing is actually much needed. There’s so much ignorance and misunderstanding about what’s happening they’ll stand there with their graphs trying to explain it.'

Exactly. They'd do a press conference and Twitter and mn would be full of 'did you see Johnson's hair do and isn't he fat!' While not having a clue of the basics like when they needed to isolate or get a test.

Hopefully this will take the focus away from the people who say 'fuck the tories I'll do what I like waaah!!' and bring more attention to the current escalating situation rather than the politicians.

@MJMG2015

@ChicCroissant. I'll be crossing many body parts for Whitty to resign on the spot

Why the actual hell would you want that?

Clearly you missed the fact that it's been reported over the weekend that Whitty has considered resigning because Boris isn't taking any notice of him. As PP have pointed out, the last scientist to disagree with BJ publically hasn't been seen at a briefing since.

Van Tam or Van Damme - either could be useful Grin

Any further restrictions are just going to be met with reminders that it wasn't that important when Cummings did it, and many eye-testing drives to places. I feel for the Police who will be expected to enforce restrictions BJ doesn't think apply to him or his friends (rumours today - denied, obviously - that BJ was in Perugia last weekend)

The whole 'briefing' and the articles in the papers are another example of this weak Government's constant fucking leaking of stuff to see how it will go down before they put someone on the spot actually saying it. Own your decisions!

The80sweregreat · 21/09/2020 09:52

Just read the Daily mail website comments pages. Nobody believes this government anymore! Or the Medical Officers. it'll give you an idea of what people think about a lot of this and the reasons why another lockdown won't work.
Too many conspiracy theories and too many people thinking it won't affect them or the economy should come first ( which has many arguments for it to continue without more lockdowns)

MJMG2015 · 21/09/2020 09:54

@Carrotcakeforbreakfast

Some of the attitudes on here are appalling and exactly why the numbers are going up. I've just finished a shift that was meant to finish at 8pm tonight. My trust are seeing the numbers rise at an alarming rate. I had to stay as we had to open up another CT scanner to deal with the 'hot patients' we already have 1 hot scanner too. Those are saying " only 21 deaths, but the deaths aren't rising" need to go back to March and look at the figures then. Before it exploded.

Yes people die of other things
I see it daily
Cancer, trauma, suicide but you cannot catch these things from others. It is a pathetic, juvenile comparison.
If we let covid go unchecked and only deal with the cancers etc covid will within weeks outnumber those deaths my thousands and thousands.

I am honestly drained to begin this battle again and reading some of the comments on here make me not want to fucking bother.

Thank you for being there & doing what you do 🌷

I can understand you feeling the way you do, but there ARE many of us being incredibly careful & doing all we can to avoid getting it, so as not to overwhelm the NHS etc.

Whilst on a personal level I wouldn't blame you for walking away, I hope you don't, you & thise like you are the only chance many of us have of coming out of the other side of this if we do get it & we are incredibly grateful that you are there! 🤗

It's a shame some people won't listen & will keep putting others at risk, but I'm not sure how we can get through to them, especially when the Govt are such a shit show 🙇🏻‍♀️

Too many idiots! Economy is important but so is our health.

Why the actual hell would you want that?
Because he’s got no integrity. People keep saying about how uncomfortable he looks when BJ is talking, how he doesn’t believe in what they’re doing etc. If I was so at odds with what my employer was bulldozing through in an emergency I’d quit, not stand there looking uncomfortable. And he can take that idiot Harries with him as well

I'd look bloody awkward if I had to stand next to BJ coming out with his blundering, bullocks...however, I wouldn't quit. I would use my knowledge & influence to try to make the politicians listen, understand and take action.

Why would you assume I'd missed the reports over the weekend. I didn't.

But you wanting Whitty to resign makes NO sense.🤷🏻‍♀️

MJMG2015 · 21/09/2020 10:45

Too many idiots! Economy is important but so is our health

Not to mention thousands dying & many more thousands grieving isn't exactly going to be a Boost to the economy.

People seem to forget the economy relies on a healthy workforce

Heffalooomia · 21/09/2020 10:58

Just like trump refusing to listen to scientists☹️
Boris you weak loser 🧐

LastTrainEast · 21/09/2020 10:58

@onedayinthefuture

If there's no end in sight a lot of people are now just thinking fuck it. If he can't give some kind of a timeline of when we'll get back to proper normal, there's no hope is there so really what's the point in carrying on like this.
How is the government supposed to know the future? The experts know about epidemics, but not this one specifically. We've never been in this position before (not since we developed medicine)

We've already developed 3 treatments that we didn't have in the beginning back when people were saying "oh let's not bother to deal with this as I 'm bored now" if we had listened to them a lot more people would have died.

LastTrainEast · 21/09/2020 11:09

The stuff about advisors seems to confuse people.

You get advice from a medical expert and an economic expert. Then the government decide how to balance that. That's what we pay them for.

So far we've done that roughly as well (or badly if you prefer) as the rest of the world.

It would be quite irresponsible to run the country according to the medical experts opinion since he knows nothing about running a country. He is an expert in the medical side only, Just as putting the economics expert in charge would be crazy.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 21/09/2020 11:16

I'm listening now. It's clear that they are aiming for a hard lockdown and also preparing us for another 6 months at least.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 21/09/2020 11:17

Sorry, I don't mean 6 months of hard lockdown but another 6 months before any attempt to return to "normality"

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 21/09/2020 11:18

Hmmm 6months.

It's very clearly explained so far. I wish it was compulsory viewing.

6 months more of this...fucking hell, I'm done.

Gutted I’m at work and can’t watch it Sad Relying on this thread to keep me in the loop....

Seems to me they are preparing us for another lockdown.

Ooh said reducing contacts and spacing at work... but didn't mention school. So still keeping school but reducing social contact do we think?

Heffalooomia · 21/09/2020 11:21

I'm not bothered about 6-months without socialising as long as I can go to the gym👀🙏

The80sweregreat · 21/09/2020 11:21

It was grim.

Pomegranatepompom · 21/09/2020 11:21

They are explaining so clearly and calmly.
I really hope people listen and respect what has been said.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 21/09/2020 11:22

I wonder what they will do regarding kids sports.

Have they not said what the changes will be?!

WestTen · 21/09/2020 11:22

Missed it as had to put DS down for a nap. Can anybody summarise?

Hardbackwriter · 21/09/2020 11:22

It ended so abruptly?! It was clearly laying ground for some pretty unpalatable new measures - so clearly that it felt mad (and a bit 'coming up after the ad break...') that it didn't go straight into the announcement of the measures. This is not something where we need to build up the suspense.

MarshaBradyo · 21/09/2020 11:23

Yes they did well.

I hope enough people watched it.
