I really wish we knew the truth about where this awful virus came from. Will we ever know the real source?

OP posts:
Spinakker · 19/09/2020 23:23

Yanbu I'm still in shock too.

CathTurnbull · 19/09/2020 23:36

I thought it came from bats at a Chinese food market

JaJaDingDong · 19/09/2020 23:37

Me too

This is worth a read: www.nature.com/articles/d41586-020-01541-z

The real source is humans being greedy and superior isn't it?

Our need for exotic foods or whatever superseding animal.welfare and the reasons nature has fir keeping certain animals separate in the wild.

Did we think mixing animals that would never normally meet in normal circumstances wouldn't one day bite us in the arse.

We caused this. Through greed, through out dirty selfish planet destroying ways..

Well thats what I think anyway.

TheSeedsOfADream · 19/09/2020 23:43

Why would you be deleted for that?
There'll be a flurry of racist othering posts soon about wet markets (when 6 months ago the posters thought it meant a day trip to Covent Garden in November) worthy of deletion though.

Itllbeaninterestingchristmas · 19/09/2020 23:43

I thought they had admitted it was a lab escape as there were cases before the food market cluster.
An accidental escape due to poor biohazard control procedures

Voice0fReason · 19/09/2020 23:43

It came from a Chinese wet food market.

From what I’ve read nobody really knows? There’s a few theories and ideas

People can speculate about wet markets and racism. Personally I think it was bound to happen sooner or later and could have been any country it originated in for pretty much the same reasons....

I dont we have any right to judge really. Its pure luck it happened elsewhere first....

CountreeGurl · 19/09/2020 23:56

Humans encroaching on the habitats of other species. It won't be the last pandemic we see in the UK in our lifetimes

Freddiefox · 19/09/2020 23:57

@Voice0fReason

It came from a Chinese wet food market.

Nice open mind there.

Pretty sure that hasn't been admitted.

The city of Wuhan, where the outbreak of Covid-19 occurred, is also the site of the Institute of Virology, where experiments (apparently successful) had been undertaken to see if bat coronavirus could be transferred to human cells. Of all the wet markets in China, what a coincidence that the one where the current pandemic supposedly started happens to be in Wuhan.

AntennaReborn · 20/09/2020 00:18

The conspiracy theorists seem to forget that zoonotic diseases are neither new, nor rare.

About 60% of infectious diseases affecting humans came from animals

zoonotic

MaggieMcGill · 20/09/2020 00:21

Personally, I think this was a planned attack from the Chinese government against the world. Laugh or mock me all you want. It has been the perfect Cold War. Yes, they have sacrificed some of their own citizens but they have showed us all what can be done without dropping a bomb or sending anyone to war. And, what was our response? Oh yeah! Let’s all buy our PPE, masks and dodgy tests from them so that there economy doesn’t crash. They have played a blinder.

ssd · 20/09/2020 00:23

I don't care where it came from but I wish I knew where it was bloody going.

Rosehip10 · 20/09/2020 00:29

People gobbling pangolins from Chinese wet markets

Pandacub7 · 20/09/2020 00:49

The media loves to paint the East as an “exotic, scary” place that needs to seek redemption from the “civilised” West. Thing is, people seem to forget about other diseases such as swine flu and Spanish influenza, which case from the US. Also mad cow disease, bird flu.

It isn’t common to eat bats and dogs in the East as the Western media and governments would have us believe. We still don’t really know for sure what started this. First it was wet markets (been around for centuries), then bats, pangolins. WHO and the media keeps changing its mind.

LoveNote · 20/09/2020 00:56

I saw a documentary about the pangolins that will stay with me always

DeliciouslyFemale · 20/09/2020 01:04

I just watched a video of a group of scumbags driving a jeep through a duck pond and joking about chasing the ducks, while they also soaked a young family nearby. The first thing I thought, when I saw them doing that to the poor ducks, was, the human race is a bloody virus and it’s no wonder nature is fighting back. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want it and two of my children will be in extreme danger if they get it, but ffs we really treat this wonderful planet like shit.

On the logical side, I’ve no bloody idea where it really came from and I don’t think we ever will.

TheArtOfStoryTelling · 20/09/2020 01:54

Swine flu, bird flu, mad cow disease, bat flu... Maybe if we all just went vegetarian we'd be a lot safer.

It would only take a few years of proper funding for lab-grown meat to become affordable and scaleable too. That way we wouldn't have to be veggie, we would just have to shutter the livestock industry.

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 20/09/2020 05:23

If it's true that it came from bats surely the Government should stop people playing cricket? Confused

draughtycatflap · 20/09/2020 05:32

Surely Ann Widdecombe is the root of all evil. It definitely sprouted from her unseemly nether regions like old potatoes left in the dark.

Thatbliddywoman · 20/09/2020 05:51

Animals will continue to try to kill us, until we stop killing them
