I really wish we knew the truth about where this awful virus came from. Will we ever know the real source?

Covid belongs to the Sars family of viruses . Sars hit in 2002
and was predicted to return in the future. Here it is

@TheSeedsOfADream

Why would you be deleted for that? There'll be a flurry of racist othering posts soon about wet markets (when 6 months ago the posters thought it meant a day trip to Covent Garden in November) worthy of deletion though.
Nothing racist about disapproving of wet markets.

@draughtycatflap

Surely Ann Widdecombe is the root of all evil. It definitely sprouted from her unseemly nether regions like old potatoes left in the dark.
Wow I'd never thought of that. Makes sense !!!

@Thatbliddywoman

Animals will continue to try to kill us, until we stop killing them
Yet everytime someone tries to start a genuine conversation about the justification for eating meat on this site, they're met with a stream of 'YAWN', 'go moralise somewhere else', 'but bacon', 'you do what you want and I'll do what I want', 'PrOTeiN tho....'

I know someone who had it in England around Halloween last year, so I’m almost certain it didn’t actually originate in China at all. He caught it in London.

It just doesn't work like that.

Where did measles rubella chicken pox small Pox tb etc etc etc

There will always be disease. Done dimes new ones emerge.

It's nature

Survival of the fittest

We are just a spoilt blip on the planet.

DCIHoops · 20/09/2020 07:15

@Whatwouldscullydo

The real source is humans being greedy and superior isn't it?

Our need for exotic foods or whatever superseding animal.welfare and the reasons nature has fir keeping certain animals separate in the wild.

Did we think mixing animals that would never normally meet in normal circumstances wouldn't one day bite us in the arse.

We caused this. Through greed, through out dirty selfish planet destroying ways..

Well thats what I think anyway.

^^ This 100%

It matters for the avoidance of covid 20, 21 etc, but isn’t critical at the moment.

How does he know he had it?

Talk me thru why OP or others so badly want to know where virus came from.

What level of evidence to you need be convinced that the truth is known and proven enough?

Would knowing this give you faith that another virus like it won't emerge soon?

Would knowing this give you someone to punish or hate?

Is there another reason why you so badly want to know?

JaJaDingDong · 20/09/2020 10:49

I know someone who had it in England around Halloween last year, so I’m almost certain it didn’t actually originate in China at all. He caught it in London.

How does he know he had it?

And how does he know he caught it in London? (Unless he never leaves London)

You know someone who had a disease months before it was even known to exist? On another continent?

Given that there were no tests for this particular virus then, how does your friend 'know' he had it? The symptoms are very similar to other respiratory diseases.

Whatwouldscullydo · 20/09/2020 10:53

Would knowing this give you someone to punish or hate?

I'm not remotely interested in finding a scapegoat. I'm not interested in hating people.

I think we need to know so humans as a species wake up to what we are doing snd the consequences of that.

I want to know so maybe when my children have their children and when they have children, that we haven't forced them to bring children into an even bigger mess than this.

I want a planet left for them to live on.

Bulblasagne · 20/09/2020 10:55

I thought it had been traced to minors who were working in a cave which had infected bat droppings..

TheArtOfStoryTelling · 20/09/2020 13:15

Child labour?

MagicSummer · 20/09/2020 13:33

@yeOldeTrout - it's just that somehow KNOWING how it happened makes it a bit easier to deal with, and if we do know, we could perhaps avoid it happening again. That's why!

Because he had a really nasty virus and was absolutely floored by it. His wife had it too, but not so bad, but she did have severe trouble breathing during the night and had to have his inhalers because she was terrified she was going to die. He went back to work reluctantly after a couple of weeks off, but he was still not right. A couple of weeks later, he collapsed and was taken to hospital where they found he had a collapsed lung. They found some really weird and shocking damage in his lungs that was a total mystery and we were all quite baffled by it at the time as he’s in good health normally. He was discharged in the new year but hasn’t been back to work since. He can’t walk very far and is extremely weak. His consultant thinks it may have been Covid but obviously it can’t be proven as the antibody test has to be done within a relatively short amount of time. I met up with him over the summer and I’m now convinced that’s what it was. I also know a couple of people who had quite weird pneumonia in the lead up to Christmas (although obviously that’s just anecdata).

userxx · 21/09/2020 09:17

@Bulblasagne Surely not, that's bat shit crazy...... 😏
