Not prepping, not panic buying - just, what do you think would make lockdown in the dark, grey winter bearable?

Disney channel subscription
craft stuff
baking stuff
yoga mats and skipping ropes
seeds to grow herbs (can you do that in the winter on a windowsill?)
clothes and boots for the kids for winter walks

Any other ideas?

Place marking!

KindKylie · 18/09/2020 20:07

SAD lamp
Nice candles and bath stuff, maybe nail polish kits etc
Hi vis and decent lights/torch for walks and bike rides
Better flipping laptop

Wilkolampshade · 18/09/2020 20:08

No, herb seeds won"t do particularly well on a windowsill in Winter... but cress would, and be ready in a matter of a couple of weeks.

PatsyPet · 18/09/2020 20:09

Nice candles
New recipe book
New cosy bedding
Sheepskin boots /slippers

LolaSmiles · 18/09/2020 20:10

Decent wellies for long dog walks as mine have fallen apart.
Kindle books.

DressingGownofDoom · 18/09/2020 20:12

Books and snacks.

Spinakker · 18/09/2020 20:13

Jigsaws

Ugh feeling low! First lockdown it was novel and we had spring in the air.

Any good gardening tips?

My brother in law has just bought an outside heater for his patio so that could be exciting.

TolstoyAteMyHamster · 18/09/2020 20:14

Following with interest.
I think we need some kind of exercise equipment everyone will use and enjoy - maybe a trampette or similar.
We are well stocked with books and games and puzzles, and food.
Definitely need to upgrade our outdoor gear and winter cycling kit.
Maybe a fire pit for the garden, or a chiminea. My children would be delighted with an outdoor hot tub - not ruling that out!

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 18/09/2020 20:15

Fire pit for marshmallow toastings.
Snow boots and winter woolies to wear whilst doing so.
Red cyclamens to replace the begonias and petunias just going over.
Homeschooling ks1 workbooks (bound to be useful at somepoint).

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 18/09/2020 20:15

A big oversized hoodie. So I can get fat and hide it in the hoodie. Actually hide my whole self in the hoodie and not emerge until this fucking thing is over.

Fiftysixthnamechange · 18/09/2020 20:15

New coats for everyone so when we're in lockdown over winter we can still spend a lot of time outdoors. Firepit for the garden, a freezer full of Charlie bigham ready meals, the thought of scrabbling for food after work in the supermarket fills me with horror. Wine delivery. Might start buying a few Christmas presents, can see there being lots of shortages and delivery issues if we lockdown again.

Waterproofs and thermal clothing for walks.

I'm going to see if I can find some easy board games/ card games etc that my 3 year old can do.

I'm keen to see other people's ideas

jcurve · 18/09/2020 20:16

I was contemplating a Barbour coat today. If we are still WFH I think I’d get a lot of use out of it.

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 18/09/2020 20:17

Gin for me, beer for dh and some haribo for the kids. Hopefully that will see us through the other side

CheshireDing · 18/09/2020 20:19

I have got jigsaws for DC ranging from 250 pieces upwards. I like the idea of yoga mats and might let them choose some Lush bath stuff to save.

PotteringAlong · 18/09/2020 20:21

I’ve got gloves / hats / scarfs for winter walks
Popcorn and hot chocolate
Christmas crafts
Christmas baking stuff

Orchard toys have a lovely range of games for little ones. I think you can filter by age on Amazon.
CheshireDing · 18/09/2020 20:22

Khajit my 3 year old plays Uno and sort of plays Ticket to Ride.

Cat Stacking (I think that’s what it’s called) is also random but DC enjoy it!

TheLastStarfighter · 18/09/2020 20:24

I was a few hours ahead of this thread - just ordered a decent sized desk for DS1 so he can school at home more easily.

In an ideal world - a house with some outdoor space.

girlsyearapart · 18/09/2020 20:25

@Khajit mine used to love Shopping List at that age

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 18/09/2020 20:25

Think I will get some of the over sized fleece hoodies as the one I have is cotton and thin so not snug. Might add some more jigsaws, popcorn and hot chocolate supplies, a new craft for me, nice bath stuff and some bulk tubs of treats.

Hormonecrazyhell · 18/09/2020 20:26
