what are you buying for a winter lockdown?

Not prepping, not panic buying - just, what do you think would make lockdown in the dark, grey winter bearable?

Disney channel subscription
craft stuff
baking stuff
yoga mats and skipping ropes
seeds to grow herbs (can you do that in the winter on a windowsill?)
clothes and boots for the kids for winter walks

Any other ideas?

Most things that have been mentioned!

Possibly will get around to knitting some long fingerless 'gloves'

A bit niche, but a new front door & window dressings. New sofas, but only if I get the lounge painted first 🤦🏻‍♀️
I was hoping to have had the kitchen installed too, but looking highly unlikely!!

OverTheRainbow88 · 18/09/2020 20:30

We got our boiler serviced!

IggyAce · 18/09/2020 20:30

Hot chocolate & marshmallows.
Cabin socks.
Already started Christmas shopping (aiming to be done by end of October).
Make sure the baking cupboard is fully stocked.
I picked up a craft pack from home bargains to make Christmas cards for £1.99. So that will keep the kids busy.
Got plenty of games & a couple of jigsaws.
Recommend orchard games for younger children my ds loved the rocket game from age 3/4, we still play it occasionally now.

@BabyLlamaZen

Ugh feeling low! First lockdown it was novel and we had spring in the air.

Any good gardening tips?

My brother in law has just bought an outside heater for his patio so that could be exciting.

Try not to let it get to you, try to embrace the nice things! (I know, I know, but we can TRY x)
VirginiaWolverine · 18/09/2020 20:31

Warm, waterproof coat.

Gazebo for outdoor socialising on rainy days.

Heated throw.

Winter greens for the garden.

peakotter · 18/09/2020 20:31

Wood fired hot tub. Wood. Matches. Wine. Rain cover.

@TolstoyAteMyHamster get your order in for the hot tub soon, I think a lot of us have the same idea.

uka888 · 18/09/2020 20:34

Following for ideas.

PyongyangKipperbang · 18/09/2020 20:34

Gin.

Lots and lots of gin.

PyongyangKipperbang · 18/09/2020 20:35

Oh, and more Lego. It was what got me through the first one!

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I need heavier dumbbells. I started working out in the last lockdown and bought a set of light hand weights. My fitness is much improved and if we're locked down again I'll want to step up the weights.

MJMG2015 · 18/09/2020 20:39

@Khajit

Waterproofs and thermal clothing for walks.

I'm going to see if I can find some easy board games/ card games etc that my 3 year old can do.

I'm keen to see other people's ideas

I highly recommend Orchard Games Bus Stop for 3 year olds (lots of learning opportunities, fun & not too mind bending for adults). The kids loved lots of the others, especially Tummy Ache- but they made me want to rip my head off!! Except that matching ones, I didn't mind those too much.

Depending on your child card games, Yahtzee & a very basic version of rummikub. Drafts. But really does depend on their nature!!

mosscarpet · 18/09/2020 20:41

Printer ink and paper, especially if dc are off school again. I really struggled to get ink last time so have been sticking up for the past few months.

Rebelwithallthecause · 18/09/2020 20:44

Crochet supplies
Festive treats
Stamps

VictoriaBun · 18/09/2020 20:44

Adult colouring Books and pens. Lots of books to read . Yarn as I like to crochet . I'm going to get back into breadmaking and cake baking .

TheHalloweenFairy · 18/09/2020 20:46

Not so much with the herb seeds @vivariumvivariumsvivaria although you could try now for some winter greens (kale etc) or early sowing of some flowers such as sweet peas, calendula, cornflowers etc to get a head start in next year. Spring bulbs such as daffodils and tulips can go in Pots over the next few months, even garlic if you fancy.

Non plant related I’ve :
Made a start on Christmas gifts
Got a treadmill
New books and jigsaws for me and DD
Stocked baking cupboard
Sorted winter coats but could do with boots
Boiler service
Got in some decorating supplies
New Desk chair for WFH
Shedloads of teabags
Cosy new slippers & hot water bottles
Considering a chest freezer

BogRollBOGOF · 18/09/2020 20:57

I've already bough the biggest, most voluminous, most expensive coat in the shop so at least I'll have a dry, warm arse all winter.

Last March we got a big TV. No way would we have coped for 5.5 months with one TV between 4.

Bogroll and pasta stocks have been maintained nicely since Feb.

Surprisingly I still have gin and tonic left!

H1978 · 18/09/2020 20:58

Lots of snacks and hot drinks and plenty of chargers for when the kids loose or tear them.

Bickles · 18/09/2020 21:01

Wine
Lego- a lot!
Halloween and Christmas craft and baking stuff

Wingingthis · 18/09/2020 21:03

A chimenea (sp) for socially distanced coffees in the garden with a friend if it gets to that point

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 18/09/2020 21:04

Am trying to persuade myself that I'll use paint if I buy it. There's quite a lot of decorating needing doing here...

I'm going to have to get smart with storage too.

Bluewavescrashing · 18/09/2020 21:06

A weighted blanket is really good for hiding under when reality gets too scary.

I also have a heated fleece throw. And an oversized snuggly hoody. Cosy socks are a must!

Books, switch lites for the DCs, comfort food

LindaEllen · 18/09/2020 21:06

I need lots of books, I've got a couple of exercise games (think: Wii Fit and similar) which I'm playing already, bath bombs and nice flavoured shampoos and shower gels, my Firestick .. that's pretty much it. I'm dreading going back into lockdown because I didn't cope well the first time, but I guess there's not that much I can do about it.
