what are you buying for a winter lockdown?

Not prepping, not panic buying - just, what do you think would make lockdown in the dark, grey winter bearable?

Disney channel subscription
craft stuff
baking stuff
yoga mats and skipping ropes
seeds to grow herbs (can you do that in the winter on a windowsill?)
clothes and boots for the kids for winter walks

Any other ideas?

Everyone check your alcohol supply, I think OP has started already Grin

Frouby · 18/09/2020 21:39

I bought ds a warmer winter coat today.

Lots of fluffy socks for dd and will buy her some naice gloves, shebhas raynards so feels the cold in hands and feet.

Some new muckers for me, and also so new runners.

Plenty of tonic, have a decent gin stock anyway.

Have planted as much as I can at the allotment again for winter veg.

Could do with a laptop for dd for homeschool, and some year 2 resources for ds, have just ordered a couple of books to read together.

And we have all had either new beds or new mattresses for the amount of time qe will be spending on them staying out of each others way.

frumpety · 18/09/2020 21:40

More books.

I bought a peloton at the end of the last lockdown after procrastinating for far too long. It has proven to be far better value than I imagined. The whole community feel and wide range of classes. Glad that we’ll have it in another lockdown. It was very expensive, but I have been trying to follow some of the rules for spending from that ?Harvard on-line class on spending for happiness -use money for experiences, activity and health rather than objects. (Although I guess the bike could be just an object if I wasn’t using it as intended!).

We’ve kept up quite a lot of lockdown activities -getting milk and other dairy delivered, baking our own bread, focussing onwork in our own garden rather than going out much...the only thing I think I would do if/when it happens again is make a mad dash to hobby craft for supplies to keep the DC entertained.

Pinkpantherstrikesagain · 18/09/2020 21:50

Chloroform 🤣

LeahDownTheLane · 18/09/2020 21:51

We had two log burners fitted last month so we’ve made sure we have plenty of wood but might get another delivery in just incase.
Lots of candles.
Plenty of batch cooked stews.
Electric blanket.

mathanxiety · 18/09/2020 21:56

Getting Christmas shopping out of the way.
Jigsaws.

AllTheCakes · 18/09/2020 21:56

I think I would actually enjoy a winter lockdown, if I didn’t have DC at home to keep entertained! Cost nights in reading, playing scrabble, watching films under blankets sounds wonderful. Keeping a toddler occupied when locked at home with no parks or activities on is miserable.

CokeyCola · 18/09/2020 22:08

Thinking about a patio heater.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 18/09/2020 22:26

Ooh - placemarking. Lockdown and a possible hard Brexit.

Work was nuts for the first lockdown 12+ hr days so did f-all in the personal sense. Didn't exercise, drank way too much, hardly saw my kids even though I never left the house - have nothing to show for it except a job well done and an extra stone in weight Blush

Things I need to sort
Boiler service
Garden stuff, lots of jobs that need doing. Grass seed, fertiliser, order in for seeds and spring veg.
Frozen veg for the freezer. For Brexit delays. Pasta, olive oil, pulses for soups.
Paint. Have a few jobs to do.

Will I stock up on this stuff - yes. Will I do any of it, probably not. But it will make feel more in control In one way, and probably increase my anxiety about not doing it all in other ways.

PicsInRed · 18/09/2020 22:30

Drugs not hugs

WeakandWobbly · 18/09/2020 22:39

Place marking! Need to get some exercise equipment in.

Heyahun · 18/09/2020 22:44

Nintendo switch

Ilovelblue · 18/09/2020 22:46

I've now done about 90% of my Christmas shopping. I am normally quite organised but have even surprised myself over the past few weeks, anticipating some sort of lockdown (we're unable to have anyone in the house or garden from Tuesday).

DateLoaf · 18/09/2020 22:49

Wasn’t a major problem but we did find the mixer stocks and bags of ice got low quite quickly in lockdown. We estimated well for the spirits. Grin Soda stream canister.

Things like ginger and chilli (frozen or dried) or coriander seemed hard to come by, so will be thinking about stocking up with them.

Thinking of emailing everyone in the family to say let’s make it a low key xmas on adult presents this year.

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 18/09/2020 22:49

Strychnine? Gin?

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 18/09/2020 22:50

Valium maybe.
Is there anything that can put you into a timed medical coma?

Khajit · 18/09/2020 22:52

Some great suggestions for games, thanks guys!

I'm going to get some birdseed and fat balls too.
