Do people realise that if their child's bubble bursts.....

.....and that child is therefore sent home from school for 14 days, the child is supposed to stay solely within their own house or garden for that entire period? They might be completely well for the full 14 days, but during that time, they can't take any walks. No bike rides. No drives in the car. If they haven't got a garden, they cannot go outside at all.

Many, many children are going to be in this position very soon - quite possibly multiple times - and it goes some way beyond the initial lockdown situation.

@LearnedResponse

Finny, the children of world war 2 may have had fields to play in but nearly a million of them didn’t have their parents. It’s a ridiculous valid comparison but if you had to say who had it worse then I think the ones who were sent far from home to live with random stranger definitely had it worse.
My DM had a whale of a time as an evacuee.

@CrumbsThatsQuick
Was that primary or secondary? In lower primary they all mingle together and I think it would be really difficult to identify “close contacts” in, say, R or y1

syskywalker · 14/09/2020 23:40

Scientifically speaking when you sneeze or cough those droplets travel up to 8 metres. Inside and outside.

To add to the discussion at hand, no I didn't know exactly what might happen in schools - my DC are adults and I have no DGC. In fact having read the thread I'm still not sure.

A friend has just managed to convince her DD's school that his cough was asthma, and just needed his inhaler. AFAIK inhalers have no effect on Covid cough.

My 5 year old is now in this situation. A child in her bubble of 25 has tested positive so she is now to self-isolate for 2 weeks. Her dad and myself have still to go to work.

ineedaholidaynow · 15/09/2020 18:42

Who will be looking after her @LeonoraFlorence?

LeonoraFlorence · 15/09/2020 19:19

I’ve had to ask for time off work. I’ve been told by the track and trace that it must be mum or dad looking after her. Normally my mum does but she has health issues so not willing to risk it by sending her there anyway. It is not ideal but we will stick by the rules.

Funny, the CDC recommends only 10 days. Why 14?

AldiAisleofCrap · 19/09/2020 19:00

@Zyzxyz no it’s 10 days if you have the symptoms 14 days if others do, as it can take time for symptoms to show.

Treesofwood · 19/09/2020 20:28

American covid is less dangerous. Obv.

Donuts000 · 19/09/2020 20:29

My DDs bubble has burst and it's the second bubble in the school already , that's nearly 600 kids off. I don't blame the school at all but I just don't see how any of this can work unless the bubbles are MUCH smaller, 30ish.
Apparently the plan from now on is to only isolate the pupils who have had 'close contact' - this is 15mins or more within 2 meters. So DD could sit in a classroom with someone who tested positive and I don't know if we would be told.
There's a crush to get 900 kids through the door in 15 mins at start and end of school which seems wrong to me.
I have health issues and feel like I can't control risk at all. If she was a year younger she would be in a smaller bubble and I would be much happier

Is this not called Commen Sense??
Or am i missing something @IfYouCantSeeMyMirrors

Porcupineinwaiting · 21/09/2020 11:39

And even the 10 days thing is if symptoms resolve. I was sickest between 9 and 16 days - coughing like mad, shortness of breath, feeling like death. No way should I have been back in general circulation even if I had been able to get out of bed.

Hmmmmminteresting · 21/09/2020 11:51

A year 7 group in our local secondary school just had ti isolate due to a positive case and the amount of kids there who were on the school run with parents at the local primary school was actually unbelievable
