How many cases in your child’s school so far?

Magnavixen · 11/09/2020 15:04

Our children back have been back to school since last Thursday.

So far 3 positive cases in 3 different year groups.

They are in bubbles of approximately 180 students each.
2 of the positive cases have been in their year groups.
Only close contacts required to isolate.

I’m surprised at how quickly the cases are appearing. Is anyone else experiencing the same?

0 in DH’s school. 1 in another school within the MAT. Both 1500-2000 secondaries.

MadameBlobby · 12/09/2020 10:17

0 so far, I expect it’s just a matter of time though. Secondary in one of the areas in the west of Scotland that has local restrictions.

joan12 · 12/09/2020 10:19

Zero

Small primary and huge secondary

It’s interesting to see the different measures taken by schools. Ours have been very clear that they’ve been guided (instructed) by PHE and “the local Health Protection Team” as to dealing with each case.

In our school, even though each year group is in a bubble, only close contacts have been asked to isolate, definitely not the whole year group.

Also, the school have been instructed to use a 2 day period prior to positive test result to inform close contacts.

Besides the Covid-safe measure taken by the school, which I’m comfortable with, my children have also said the school is doing everything possible and that they’re being enforced strictly.

Husband and I have kind of resigned ourselves to the fact it’s only a matter of time before it gets to us. It’s a strange feeling and I’m still processing it. We’d been so careful during lockdown.

I’ve u-turned on my initial thinking at the beginning of lockdown that education can be caught up or it’s only a short period of time in my children’s lives to not be in school. One of mine really suffered with their mental health as lockdown went on. The change when they returned was remarkable.

So we still believe it’s the right thing to do to send them to school but, with the positive cases we know about in such a short period of time, it is a very odd feeling constantly on our minds knowing it could happen to us any day now.

Nursery: 0
Primary: 0
Secondary: 0 (Over 2000 students incl Sixth form)

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 12/09/2020 10:26

None so far, although I’m not convinced our school would publicise it.

Not surprising, since cases here are 10 per 100,000. That’s double what it was last week, so I guess we’ve got a month before things get bad?

horseymum · 12/09/2020 10:27

1 in primary, two in high school. Both sent letters out saying what they had done. In primary, whole class sent home, in secondary, only close contacts sent home - am guessing they looked at seating plans as they are not allowed to deviate from these.

Decentsalnotime · 12/09/2020 10:33

500 pupil prep school

Why OP?

Why though? Even when it was running rampant in March before lockdown, most people didn’t get it.

NewAutumnName · 12/09/2020 10:37

Two secondaries 1200 students each school no cases.
Primary 550 children no cases.
Sil primary 300 children no cases
However, really low infection rate here
Locally only 1 in local hospital a elderly person from a residential home.

OntheWaves40 · 12/09/2020 10:39

High school with 2000 kids, none.
Special school with 200 staff, none.

girlicorne · 12/09/2020 10:39

We are midlands, junior school with around 300 pupils, secondary with around 400, no cases in either yet 😀

ParisianLady · 12/09/2020 10:43

0 cases, 600 pupil school

0 cases in my area yesterday, and the day before

dannydyerismydad · 12/09/2020 10:43

None at DS's school or the school I work at yet.

Decentsalnotime · 12/09/2020 10:46

I find your assumption you’ll definitely get it OP utterly bizarre
Have you read the responses to your own thread?!

30ishiwish · 12/09/2020 10:50

2 in DS school. One form entry primary, both cases in different bubbles so no need to isolate.

DDs high school, one confirmed case in Y7 so the whole year group is closed for two weeks!

Several bubbles in different primary schools have been sent home and a few high schools have sent year groups home. We are in a very high infection rate area. It’s going to be a long winter!

We havent had cases yet but I know its only a matter of time. And I am totally dreading it.

We were pretty worried with our daughter going back to school last summer term when school reopened, to such an extent that I started pulling the daily coronavirus data in our local council to help us decide what to do. Anyway I did end up setting up an email service www.covidmessenger.com.

Each day I compile the latest number of lab-confirmed, positive coronavirus cases across the country into a bitesize email – one for each district council in the UK - and send it out.

You are most welcome to sign up for the email for your local council so you can keep an eye what is happening locally. I subscribe to three (of my own emails!) as my daughters school's catchment area straddles three councils and I really want to know if there is an outbreak in one before it makes its way into the school.

www.covidmessenger.com[/quote]
This makes me uncomfortable
We have absolutely no idea re your background and experience.

Are you a statistician? Experience in interpreting Government data?

Basically you were worried and seemed very anxious. Not the best place to start.

Decentsalnotime · 12/09/2020 10:55

Ah just read you were a data researcher so a relief to know experience in the field at least

CeeJay81 · 12/09/2020 10:57

None in either primary or secondary here that I am aware of. Small rural community, so word will soon get around when it happens. Know of quite a few kids off due to cold symptoms though, it's only a matter of time before one of mine is off most likely.

SomewhereEast · 12/09/2020 11:03

0 in our entire town of 30,000 people (I have at least one friend with DC in every school by coincidence). I'm not clear why the thread title is framed on the assumption that everyone of the UK's over 30,000 schools would've had a case a fortnight into reopening. Covid would have to be running really hog wild for that to be the case.

audweb · 12/09/2020 11:11

None. We’ve been back since middle of August. There were outbreaks in another school in my city (that was all over the national news) but in my kids school of over 400 kids none as yet. I’m ok with them being back. In Scotland there’s no pressure to be back in the office, so at least we are prioritising schools returning, and I think that’s the right decision.

Aragog · 12/09/2020 12:12

None in my infant school.

We've had two staff have had time off and taken tests (both fortunately negative) due to symptoms. Now back at work once results were through.

And we have either 2 or 3 parents who have tested positive this week so their child is now home isolating. Fortunately they have not yet had symptoms themselves.

DD's old secondary school - she left y13 this year - has two positive cases in children so two year groups are at home isolating. Their teachers are in school teaching other classes, and at other times in their classrooms recording lessons for students (mix of live and pre recorded.)

Jeremyironseverything · 12/09/2020 13:15

A lot of schools in Scotland have been instructed to keep it out of the media if possible.

MarshaBradyo · 12/09/2020 13:17

@Jeremyironseverything

A lot of schools in Scotland have been instructed to keep it out of the media if possible.
How do you know this?

We’d see posts on here still, but they’ve been sparse.

Overall I am interested to know if the rate is going up as schools have been back longer.
